Innovation is needed but NATO components should not be changed all at once. Barrel is obvious but mags and bolt are a tough sell for the common man. 300 blkout, 8.6 blkout, and 6mm max should top of the list for modern gas gun cartridge. 6.5 creedmoore and 300 prc are another convo but I will mention just to cover bases.

I meant to say train it out so the bolt is a 6.5 Grindle I presume, where do you get your barrel at?
@youtubedude3422Күн бұрын
I get that 338 arc will work in an ar15, but it is not optimal for it. The bolt face and magazines have always turned me off from the other "ar15 cartridges." The 6arc even has 2 load data sets for bolt and gas guns where the gas load is weaker. The dissent is an ar10 frame if I remember right. If you're going with these alternatives cartridges, guns like this will do better. I think that's why the mk47 is so popular. I hope the lighter small frame ar10s like the SRAR, POF, and others, will follow CMMG's lead and offer these options.
@jonathanlogan664711 сағат бұрын
Kevin is that you in disguise? You are aware that it is like that for ALL ar15 cartridges right. This even includes 223 and 556 as the ar15 is built and has been since the late 50s to operate at 58k psi max where as most bolt guns run at 62 to 66k and often get pushed even a little higher by handloaders. It's not the bolt face that is the problem it's people loading way hotter than the system was designed for. I would see the same bolt issues come up quite often when I was shooting service rifle matches as a lot of the guys would really push the 223 on the pressure end in with the 77 and 80gr bullets. It's not a great argument as a would say this is indeed an optimized round for the ar15 sized gun for suppressed subsonic shooting and energy down range performance and given hornady stated on the m.a.c. Podcast that the round both super and sub runs at 48k psi the bolt face argument is even less valid.

Thanks, I went down that rabbit hole. I found out it’s a 200 yard driveway and in round and seems like necked down 8.6 blackout that has a similar range. I want to know if it will be useful against all North America n predators and game. I have zero interests in trophy hunting. If I can eat it, it’s a pest, or a dangerous apex predator. If this new round in a smaller platform, and works just as well as an 8.6 blackout, I’m in. If it is a short distance, underpowered round, why bother?🤔

Still not sold on the 1/8 twist Hornady is promoting. If it’s pushing close to the same size & weight projectiles as the 8.6 blk it should have a faster twist. Even with a 1/5 twist Hornady traditional cup and core bullets should not explode.

I love all things suppressed but it seems Hornady would go with a faster twist rate than 1:8 to stabilize those slow heavy rounds. I’m sure I will buy one as soon as the reloading components are available. We also need some load data.
@AverageGunPerson2 күн бұрын
The 338 Spectre, which is what hornady aped, uses a 1:6.5" twist rate. To my knowledge there isn't anything that can't be shot out of one or those twists but not the other. So hornady really should explain why 1:8" is better. So don't fall for the marketing ploy it's for reloading compatibility bc you can't optimally use the existing 125-300gr 338 spectre projectiles (which are most of what would fit and properly function). I bet most will stabilize for sure but im not of expansion, but others like solid copper monolithics could have issues

Looks fun as all get out, which is the best advertising you & big red can hope for. I want one of those shorties in a 1:3-1:5" twist... what an awesome little subsonic bag gun. I found 2.36" coal mags that would help a lot with this short of a set up
@lucastonoli32562 күн бұрын
1:3 would be pointless, and absolutely not desireable at all. Manufacturers are already making 1:5, which is more than plenty enough for any reasonable cartridge.
@AverageGunPerson2 күн бұрын
@lucastonoli3256 I disagree. 1:3" would be specifically for subs & lighter weight 8.6 blk specific projectiles. Some already fit, & I found 2.36" COAL mags, with nas3 cases I could make up for even more of the lost case capacity. In Hornady's case, the sub-x doesn't "expand" below 900fps, so the twist would both help it deform and add cutting area. Possibly lowering the fps requirement. But of course I'm talking about a limited run item for reloaders

@CMMG I get it. But it's like showcasing a .222 Remington when you have .223. If the industry focused on the superior cartridges it would become much cheaper to shoot. Q made a 8.6 blackout lighter than most standard AR15's. CMMG is a great company. I have no doubt they could take the 8.6 and do something similar. Then there would he no need for people thinking the size and heft of the gun even matters.
