Awesome job Halfmile. I have a Savage 300 win Mag and mine doesn't care for the lighter loads as much as it does the heavier ones. Great work!

I expect this gun is going to prefer the heavies myself. We'll see how the lighter ones do when I can shoot it in cooler weather.

I always find it fascinating how one rifle in one caliber can shoot so wildly and varied depending on the bullet weight, and the manufacturer brand of ammunition fired. That's why I load my own
@Halfmilesniper

What I found with this rifle is that it is very temp sensitive. I suspect the thin barrel profile has the barrel heating up quickly which is why the thirs group opened up so large. It shoot great cold bore but opens quickly when warm. Not a problem for a hunting rifle though.

Also I was the Overall Master in the Service Auto Match. so thing are going smooth for me. One more day of shooting to go.

I mostly use the same set up as you are. It’s more work though to get it working like I described. (blocking up front or rear) When working on multiple rifles, an adjustable front rest saves a lot of time.

First - Thanks for doing this in that extreme heat. Second - I can imagine how tough it is to switch to a Straight Pull action. Like switching from a 3speed Straight shift transmission to a 10 speed. Can't find the right dang gear. 😆 I'm happy that the Corelokt did that well because I thought the Deer Season would be best. Maybe different results in 40 degree weather? Definitely interested how a brake will effect things especially the recoil. Appreciate your time & dollars cause that ammo ain't cheap. 👍 🇺🇸 🙏

Thanks Bill. You could actually see the look of "ah ha" when I figured out the brass will eject when the rifle is shouldered, LOL. I couldn't get it to eject just holding the rifle. It is going to take some time to get used to for sure. After that heat...LOL, Mississippi is down right cool.

@@Halfmilesniper After 40 yrs of muscle memory - as experts call it - telling you to raise the bolt another 40 degrees & switching to maybe half of that it is difficult. Might be why Chuck Connors used a 92 Winchester instead of a Ross or Lee- Enfield. 😆 Glad no hats or glasses were injured by recoil. Nice to see low temps down around 50 degrees at night. Take care & have a good safe trip. Keep protection handy. Lot of crazy stuff in last 2 weeks East of the Mississippi. 🙏 🇺🇸

Me too. I expected the Norma to be best but I couldn't get the barrel to cool at all...it was just too stinking hot. Once I get the brake mounted we'll reshoot and hopefully it'll be cool enough the barrel will cool naturally. Thanks for watching.

@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper 2 жыл бұрын
Hopefully by the time I get home and can mount that brake the Temps will be more conducive to shooting. I was so surprised by the poor performance of the Norma that I can only think barrel heat may have caused it. Now, if once we shoot the Norma from a cold barrel if it is still ugly we'll know that the gun/ammo combo is a no go. I appreciate you watching, thanks.

180gr core lokt group is good as it gets,with my limited 300 mag experience. Tried zeroing my friends older savage 300 on windy day,it was a dumpster fire. After 4th round nothing came close. Barrel heat? I'd like to think it wasn't me flinching. I am accustomed to recoil but 300 win mag will beat you up
@Halfmilesniper
@Halfmilesniper 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe the excessive heat not letting the barrel cool had something to do with the wide groups. We'll see once I can mount that brake and shoot the gun again. I'll probably try to shoot them in reverse order so the Norma has the coolest barrel. It will of course be on video. The Core Lokt did very well though, be interesting to see if its still does well at the end of the string. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.

It took a little bit to get used to the straight pull, but once I did it was very smooth. This one is a good shooter too...as long as the barrel is cool. Once the barrel is hot the groups open up. Perfect barrel for hunting though.

You might try a different bench set up for hard kicking sporters. I used to use your set up, controlling the rear bag with my left hand. On the range one day, two fellows outshot me with my .338. Both had no idea how to use the bags properly, both held the forearm with their left hand. Both achieved sub minute three shot groups! After seeing that, so could I! Use an adjustable front rest, and make the set up work so the last thing you do is bring the crosshairs up to the dot with the weight of your head on the butt, and hold on to the forearm with your left hand. Worth a try.
@Halfmilesniper

I'll have to give it a try but a front bag and a squeeze bag do work well. Always room for improvement.

It will be interesting to see how it changes with a brake on the front. Is it a tuner brake or just a brake? Got a message that my club is bringing back a monthly muzzle loader fun shoot, need to resurrect my old CVA Kentucky Long Rifle in 45 and get supplies. Also need to buy a new kit for a 50cal if it ever is in stock again.

@@MrYrgas somehow, a suppressor is actually a firearm by law, and subject to an additional $200 tax. Then to add insult to injury, once you've paid for your suppressor and paid the $200 tax then you get the privilege of waiting a long time to possess it. In my case I had to wait 269 days to receive my stamp aka "permission".
