Sissel Kyrkjebø known as Sissel is one of the worlds best ( if not the best ) crossover sopranos. She sings everything from Bluegrass to Opera. Sissel has sung duets with artists such as Plácido Domingo, Charles Aznavour, José Carreras, Neil Sedaka, Brian May, Bryn Terfel, Josh Groban, Diana Krall, Russell Watson, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Mario Frangoulis. I agree but I'm unsure what the term 'crossover' actually means. In the case of Kiri Te Kanawa, yes, I see it as she is an opera singer who has on occasion crossed the line between opera and musical theatre to sing concerts of 'show' music. Sissel is unique in that she will lend her voice to anything but is not an opera singer. An operatic style in some of her singing, yes, but apart from some arias and tunes from operas and classical music arrangements fitted up with lyrics, she doesn't fit the te Kanawa prescription. Sissel in her interviews throughout her career sees herself as someone who likes songs & tunes and performing them, so that her concerts are an eclectic mix of genres. Her finest opera moment is her Solveig (in national costume/KZbin). For me, it's the best I've ever heard -in or out of opera.

@@noriemeha In her heart Sissel is a choir singer. But she likes the freedom to sing all genres. As she sayes if she not enjoy singing she will not sing.

Thanks for reviewing Sissel. Check out her performance “where the lost ones go”. Also, review “Northern Lights” concert, also and her more recent “Reflections” project . Her video of “ Carrier of a secret” song. Her body language is calm and liquid. Her various performances with the Tabernacle Choir are outstanding. Especially, “Slow Down”. Every moment you listen to Sissel will be a treat to your senses and you will gain a perfect understanding of what a crystal clear voice should sound like. Please share her performances. There is a significant difference between Dion's voice and Kyrkjebos: The former is a dramatic soprano whereas the latter is a lyric soprano. Just listening to their contrastive techniques delivering the same song marks out clearly the distinction better than any explication. After that, it's all down to personal preference and how you 'like your eggs in the morning'.

I like how you approach this, and I also like you rewind a bit before starting after a pause. Like you, probably, the music she dabbles in is not my cup of tea. I do love good voices though, and in this, she excels. I have head a fair few, and she blows me away with the clarity of her instrument.
