That one took me by surprise, but it's great to see Sissel on your channel. Sissel, considered one of the world top crossover sopranos, has toured stages of the world for four decades, singing solo and lots of duets with top singers of the world. A very beautiful one is with Jose Carreras - When you tell me that you love me. Thank you for your very insightful reactions. 😊

Tanks for a nice reaction. Funny that you are mentioning Celine Dion. Sissel sang all the background hymning music in the Titanic movie and Celine sang the "My Heart Hill Go On". Sissel fans are regularly posting their views on wether it would have been better if she had sung they title track as well. :-)

Hey guy, the song is from the 1945 Broadway production of Carousel by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. So A little bit before the 90's sound. :)

I love the way you go into the lyrics as well as giving tribute to the singer. Sissel Kyrkjebø (Chyr-che-bø (as in bird)) is amazing, and of course a national treasure for us Norwegians. I can see you have reacted to several Norwegian female singers, but have you ever reacted to another Norwegian national treasure, the band A-ha and their fantastic singer Morten Harket? A-ha have influenced bands like Coldplay, Keane, U2 and Radiohead and is still active, nearly 40 years later. Chris Martin has even said "Without A-ha there would have been no Coldplay". Unfortunately A-ha often got lumped into the Boy Band type of mold, which is a huge underrating of the band. A natural place to start is of course "Take on me", with an amazing and groundbreaking music video witch took four months of drawing by hand and 3000 drawings to make, using the technique rotoscoping. The follow up song "The sun always shines on TV" is absolutely worth attention, and so are "Stay on these roads", "I'll be losing you", "Summer moved on" and a whole bunch of other fantastic songs made by these amazing artists who write their own music.

The song is from 1945, it was a song from the musical Carousel by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Every big songer in the world has covered this. One of the most fameous versions is by Gerry & the pacemakers. This is the song that Liverpool fans sings at Anfield Road on homegames.

Very disappointed with the reviewer's comments and reaction. Unfortunately, I am one year late. The lyrics of this song is well known to almost all as it came from a popular musical. No need to elaborate its message. Sissel's voice and style is above and beyond any of her contemporaries. I've been following her since she was a teenager. My regret in life is not being able to attend her live performances with the Mormon Tabernacle. Speaking of Celine Dion's hit song, it was Sissel's voice and humming song that convinced the director of the movie "Titanic" to incorporate this song into the movie. You can still find her original humming song and it will give you goosebumps upon hearing it. It is more haunting and beautiful compared to Celine Dion's song with lyrics.

I think I can tell the diff between Dion and Kyrkjebo, apart from one having an easier name to deal with. Yes, they both have soprano voices used in an operatic fashion (some of the time), but neither are opera stars, and fair dos, because there are enough of those already who set out to be opera singers. But this is the Malbec v Merlot test. I can drink either but if Malbec's on offer, I'll take it. And I think you'll agree that ranking comparisons are the sort of thing (particularly men) folk do as if these artists were football teams. But Cel & Siss bring much the same to the feast with some fine or nice distinctions. It's only in these does personal pref really kick in. I would suggest that one of them is more a dramatic singer while the other, a lyric soprano. However if you judge them by crude popularity, say, how many internet hits, recording sales as measures, Dion steals it by a mile. Siss had the opportunity to climb to the top of the pop stakes but declined... Interestingly.

The original is from the musical theatre movie by Rogers and Hammerstein in about 1945…. Is where Gerry and the Pacemakers got it…..they didn’t write it…..it’s their cover of it… which is ok. Take it that some of you would think such a movie or live performance too posh or uncool. Don’t forget many of these songs are wonderful. Don't worry about insulting Sissel or her fans by comparing her to mediocre singers. Everybody is mediocre compared to Sissel. If you should want to insult her, then criticize her for not making herself more available - especially to people outside this strange sect of Christianity. Her voice is too good to sing primitive hymns. What a complete waste.
@onlyme0642 жыл бұрын
Please stop ruin the reaction by focusing on the lyrics when you really should focus on her amazing voice. And btw, there is nothing similar between her and Celin Dions voice imo. Celine Dion is nowhere near the level of Sissels voice and they sound very different.
