To do her justice, you should visit each of the several Sissels there are over her 4 decade career (all on KZbin)... she changed in style & appearance and yet strangely stayed a constant of high standards in performance, serving up songs without all the trappings and brouhaha other performers go in for.

As a norwegian, I would not be surprised if I had to look twice when I first saw her name, if I remember it right. Not just about that, maybe I looked carefully the thwo-three first times I saw her name. I am same age as Sissel. I was about 15 first time she appeared on national tv. Maybe I even thought 'that name easily could be Eastern European'. Norwegian has hard consonants but Eastern European can have 4-5 secutive consonants and hard consonants. So, Norwegian has two written standards for the same language. 'Kyrkjebø' is the more arcaic. 'Viking style'. Maybe it is easier for Eastern Europeans to pronounce 'Kyrkjebø' than for Western Europeans/Americans. About her look. No worry. We can all see the same. Can't blame you anything. At least you are able to keep your dignity.
