Your engine sounds nice. Please post video from the track. I put a TR-6 engine in my GT-6 and installed a Rajay turbo with 2" SU carb. The trans was a T-50 overdriven unit, 5 speed from a Chevy Monza. I adapted the Chevy Clutch and flywheel to it. It ran 12-14psi boost with water/alcohol injection. The car would out accelerate a Turbo Carrera. Acceleration was insane. The tires would spin in 3rd gear as it passed 4500 rpm. Insane! I went through 9 rear end units, never did put in the Corvette unit. The piston ring lands would give up, it would smoke like hell, then I would install a new set. Everything else held up. I needed forged pistons. I still have the original engine and some roto flex axles in my garage 30 years later...

And now I have a 4 wheel drive Triumph Spitfire with Chevy V-6.... Trans is stuck in 2nd, I may fix it soon. Hasn't run in 6 years. I'll bet you don't have an engine driven welder and air compressor!

Hahaha yeah losing a wheel is a little unsettling! I already planned on changing my axles to something from a VW with CV joints. I kept trying to figure out if I could get a different rear in the car without modifying the car to much. I have a 76 corvette rear but that won't work well, right now I'm considering a Subaru rear, not sure.

Yea . . there is not much space back there. The problem is the leaf spring of course. There are ways to make the stock rear end stronger, talk to the guy at Quantum mechanics in CT, or maybe keep looking for a stock engine. It is such a wonderfully smooth little 6 cylinder, kind of a shame to do away with it. I actually have a complete spare Mk1 engine with a reground crank, just not sure I want to part with it. Talk to Michael Buonanducci in VT he might know of one for sale.

Nice. But why not use sidepipes, so you don't have to cut in chassis?

Did you have to run race fuel for that insane CR? Also what kind of rings did you have on your pistons as well was your redline? I'm debating what to spend my money on. A high compression reliable NA motor or a low compression turbo motor. I don't need a mustang killer. Just something drivable and easy to swap when I need to smog the car XD

Yes we run race gas only. Keep the compression reasonably low for any street motor. Invest in a mild camshaft and improving the flow of the intake and exhaust.

I have a TC2500, same motor but sounds nothing like that, very jealous.

Beautiful car! Sounds great! I have a 67 GT6 I want to build soon. Did you use your stock rear? I'm hopping to get about 200hp in my car but am worried about the differential.
@Porsche9elfer
@Porsche9elfer 7 жыл бұрын
I admire your optimism, but 200hp is a huge number for a GT6 engine . . . possibly it could be done, but certainly wizardry and gobs and gobs of money would be essential ingredients. At anything approaching that power level it would first be necessary to use a different gearbox. This car is using the stock rear end with modified axles and has been lasting ok with a new ring gear. It really depends on how carefully the car is driven . . . same with the tiny little gearbox.

Porsche9elfer haha well I'm cheating a bit. I have a 5 speed and a TR8 v8. I normally keep everything stock or close to it but my car didn't come with a motor or transmission, while I was looking for one I found the v8. So why not lol
@Porsche9elfer

I did work on a GT6 that has had a rover V8 since the 70's with the same owner. He blew apart 3 rear ends in a row before deciding to drive the car more gently, then things were ok. So I guess the answer is No the rear end will not take the torque of the V8. Maybe try welding up the spider gears. Another very weak point is the outer stub axle, right near the nut, a well known problem for race cars. It is not an easy fix and requires converting the axles to Datsun 240Z or the like. When it breaks the rear wheel comes off, which can be unsettling to the driver.
