Thank you for taking the time to comment Justin 🙌 when researching the various aspects of this project I really began to feel for the next poor bastard that might have to figure out this minefield 😳 if a few more people get to have some fun with their friends and family in these cars AND sleep at night, it’s worth it. I really feel that this was a group effort. MANY of the solutions to the many problems came from generous viewers. It’s difficult to truly convey how amazing it has been to be at the receiving end of all this support. Regardless of anything to do with fancy cars, this experience has reassured me that earthlings are inherently good and generous beings. Thank you for watching 🤘😎

I’ve had the pleasure of being on this ride since you had only a dozen or so videos up and it coincided with my research into purchasing my first 911 from this controversial generation. Since those early beginnings I have managed to get myself behind the wheel of one since August but will forever be grateful to you for creating not just entertaining but extremely educational content that has build my confidence in my purchase and future work will be performing on my own car. Congratulations on the first start, Happy new year and looking forward to future videos and maybe even a PCA meetup in a few years when I’ll drive mine down to your warmer climate. BRAVO! It Lives! For those of us owning a 996 (or 986) and DIY'ers your series will be so valuable. With these cars it seems just a matter of time as sooner or later we will need to either write big checks and get the work done or write medium sized checks to buy the parts and do the work ourselves. Make sure you bleed the cooling System properly , it has to be done under vacuum if You haven‘t acces to a vacuum device then Go to your local Porsche dealer and let them do the job , make sure to NOT over heat the Engine. Nice Job, I‘ve bought a M96 engine with crankshaft problems for small Money and I‘m going to do the same except my engine gets Carillo rods and Hartech cylinders !!

Congratulations! Always a very satisfying moment when a rebuilt motor fires up (without blowing up!), even more so for such a difficult first time project. And the best thing is that while you've been doing it, the 996 has finally gained respect (hence value) significantly so your investment of time and money should be easily recouped when/if you move it on. Once the engine is confirmed as good, are you going to continue on and fix up the rest of the car? That steering wheel makes me wince! :) Well done on the channel by the way, the episodes are informative, entertaining, funny, and extremely well produced. Do you have prior experience with this sort of thing or are you just an all round clever clogs who can turn his hand to anything and do it well?

Congrats Finn! Sounds like you may probably have a vacuum or intake leak somewhere. It happened to me one time after taking off the plenum. One of the boots was not seating/sealing correctly. A liitel squirt of brake cleaner around it while the engine is running can confirm that. If the revs go up, you have a leak somewhere that area. Otherwise, the engine sounds healthy (no metal noises is always good sign, lol) Looking forward to you enjoying all your hard work. Outstanding job! Saludos!!

Well done Finn! I feel your pain on getting to those relays! As you know I had to replace the steering lock on my 996 and getting under there was horrible. As far as the sound of your engine, it sounds like it's just in need of a heat cycle so that the rings and gaskets can settle in then it'll stop misfiring. I'm sure if you plugged in an OBD you'll see the ECU complaining of that. So glad you took the lead on this rebuild mate. I now know how to put everything back. Hello Mike, that’s a very good point. There must be all kinds of combustible and less combustible liquid residue all through this engine. I think your daughter was saying wheeze, cough & gag dad! Good thing you didn't keep trying to take the nuts off of those exhaust flanges, as they love to snap off and then you need 6 studs, 6 nuts and 2 triple holed copper flange gaskets and the studs are splined too; requires heat and a punch to drive them out. Fire in the hole!

Well for me personally you actually tackled the toughest part of the 996 repair list. Anything else you do to the car will look like your on holiday. But these cars always need suspension replacements and brakes. But to be honest you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting a KZbin videographer/garage mechanic who has done that already. Sooooo, how about a new project car?? And I’ll defer to the ladies on which one to pick
@mikebell19612 жыл бұрын
@@ManinaGarage Or you go in a completely different direction.... Document the process of making repairs/replacement of the key wear and tear components including a paint correction, then prepare the car for auction. And not a Trailer Park auction company like Mecum, but Barret Jackson. Document the entire process from listing the car, filling out the forms, filing fees and then all the expenses associated with what it would cost the normal everyday car guy to enroll the car, travel, hotel, meals etc. then follow thru to auction day and what the car sold for, and what the REAL market value is for a well done up daily driver 996, versus what PCA wants you to think the car is worth:) Then take those proceeds and start again. A perpetual process that would be worth watching. Besides it would keep you off the streets and out of the pub. Cheers

@@ManinaGarage 996/986, 997/987 uses 5W40, it used to be 0W40, but Porsche now says 5W40 is fine, the wrong oil will have the wrong viscosity and not appropriate for a Lokasil coated engines and not appropriate for bearing clearances .. etc
