I looked at the old EMPI address in your town and the old building is still there. 😉 Like the sound with the cam; it’s not too mild.

I never realized what EMPI stood for 😂. Just thought it existed like SPAM. Clyde's Buggies has always been a personal favorite.
@Mikefngarage11 күн бұрын
the original EMPI was super high quality. todays Company is NOT the same company they just took the name. It was all about the best but the market was VW people and they were super cheap. So the brand did not do well. That is why all the original EMPI parts are worth so much money. Original Empi was all about Super high quality performance parts that worked.

Great to see Mike, what a pain they are to set up right hay, just fixed all my oil leaks. I can get you an okrasa badge for the fan shroud but they aren’t cheap.

Awesome build! Thanks for sharing. I want o build one now! Looks like you painted your generator strap. I did that to mine and it wasn't grounding to the case. Had to clean of a section of the inside of the strap. Just a thought...

Just catching up with this one. Looking forward to the test drive vid next on my watchlist. Love any SP performance build, can't wait to see how it runs!

Loved watching this series. Lots of good info, but still plenty of your ramblings and gesticulating with your hands as you explain something. Love that Exhaust too! Find a way to get that to market ASAP!! I love Vintagespeed ( Have one of their spendy shifters in my Ghia), but you are right, their pricing has gotten out of hand.

You can actually mig weld stainless steel using stainless mig wire and trimix gas then sand and buff it and it’ll polish up great 👍🏼 it’s great on thin stuff. I’ve repaired and built stainless sinks for restaurants and slaughter houses 🤙🏼💯

Tons of gremlins in putting one of these together. Took me 6 months. From uneven carb manifold flanges to carb jets. Tons of fun to build and frustration but very fun to drive with pride. Hope all goes well. Can’t wait to see the on the road vid. Take care.

Yea I can vouch for the frustration part. OMG fitting and working everything.

1958 $250 inflation adjusted would now be $2729. Ouch? What was the price of a new beetle in 1958?
@Mikefngarage12 күн бұрын
yea Like a new beetle was less than 2 grand back then. If you ad the kit at 250 that was 25% of the cost of a car for a few more HP.....that is why empi was having so much trouble back then. they made nice stuff that was just too expensive.

$10 more for Ohio... lol. In case you were serious, it said "Ghia coupes" not "Ohio coupes"... presumably for the carb elbows required on the Ghia to clear the decklid.
@Mikefngarage12 күн бұрын
Yeh I could not read the small writing you could see on the video. You could clearly see it said ghia LOL. I could not see much of anything on that camera. it was super small and I did not have my reading glasses on.

No I was worried about the fresh rings. dry on those cylinders running it too long without the fan. If they were broke in it could run for several minutes like that.
