@jbowen18312 жыл бұрын
Uh why would anyone with a cummins or powerstroke want to copy this? Im sure with a little searching you can find cummins and powerstrokes that have been supercharged, maybe not with this much investment and technology involved but nonetheless. I can guarantee no matter what "numbers this monster is going to put down". There are multiple cummins and powerstrokes that put down more. No I don't hate duramax or any other diesel brand but I can guarantee that this isn't going to do anything special as far as numbers go.
@Sjanzo2 жыл бұрын
Manufacturers are interested in fuel efficiency, meeting EPA regulations, and meeting warranty cost limits, and therefor have absolutely no interest in supercharging... And to get absolute peak horsepower, you get further with turbocharging because the power you use to drive the supercharger is taken from the crankshaft, which is therefor loaded higher than a turbocharged engine with the same horsepower. I.e. mechanical strength limits are met sooner with supercharging than with turbocharging.
@joelschermerhorn54472 жыл бұрын
@@jbowen1831 Well I disagree totally. While there are many diesels that may appear to match or exceed the power output of Bank’s diesel, they will do so with heavy smoke and high EGT’s, and almost none will have the throttle response of this monster. This engine has what I call predictable, reliable power and torque, while maintaining longevity. No other diesel builder designs this much longevity and reliability while building an engine. Extreme thought and care was given to this build, while most builders think that smoke is the way to show power, all while flushing efficiency down the toilet.. Banks is the best and will continue to be the best. Banks didn’t say this would put out the most, because lots of other builders have more powerful engines, but they get destroyed in multiple runs. Have you heard the term heat-soaked? That’s because there’s not enough air density to cool the whole intake system and powertrain, and the excess heat from combustion radiates through the entire engine, eventually robbing power from it. I’m sure Bank’s diesel will have repeatable numbers time after time after time on the track and won’t suffer much from heat soaking.
@jbowen18312 жыл бұрын
@@joelschermerhorn5447 >appear to match or exceed They either do or they dont... >heavy smoke and high EGT'S If having no smoke made more power, then the performance and drag market would reflect that. Guess what, it doesn't. >throttle response of this monster Ok yea it does have that, but for what? >reliable and longevity This is literally a 1 of 1, a prototype if you will. This thing could last forever or it could blow up towing a porta jon downhill with a tailwind, nobody knows. >all while flushing efficiency down the toilet... If you're talking about fuel mileage, i can guarantee this wont get better than a turbo diesel would. Superchargers are automatically less efficient by design so there goes that arguement. >Banks is the best Best at what exactly? Hes pretty good at marketing his products, ill give you that. How many UCCs has he won again? >but they get destroyed in multiple runs That comes with the territory of trying to be the BEST. When you are stressing components to the very limit each and every pass its gonna happen. >repeatable numbers time after time "Hey man you see that supercharged duramax?" "Yea its a cool concept, but not really the fastest out here." "So what if it's not the fastest, it made 30 passes in one day and didnt break." -Said no one ever I just wanna say, I do like banks, his channel, and his products. My original response wasnt bashing banks either it was directed towards OP. It would be nice to see this as some kind of crate engine you could buy, but im gonna say thats not gonna happen. @@MV-ri7zu That’s not how that works. It’s not like a turbo where you build full boost pressure at a set rpm. Centrifugal superchargers all build boost directly linear to engine rpm.
