You gotta combine head tracking with a pan/tilt pov camera to really get an immersive experience.

That'd be wild. Probably a couple steps beyond the final one of getting the full motion sim though.

Once you add head tracking to the motion seat, you need to have a way to cancel out the artificial movement of the head caused by the movement of the motion seat. It's doable for PC VR motion seats, but not sure how feasible it is for RC.

The first step you needed to do was to have 3D head tracking on the camera gimbal. I think that is more important than the motion seat... and FAR cheaper and easier to implement.

I’ve been a pretty big fan of flite test until I just now decided to try downloading their plans. Our club is having a combat soon and of course I thought FT would be the place to look for something simple for me and my daughter. We’re supposed to keep it to 2 pieces of foam board for the build. Apparently the simplest of FT builds require 4 pieces of foam board or more and require the piecing together of 30 or so printed pages from your computer… what a bummer we got so hyped thinking this would be simple. I’ve built a couple foam board planes that I’ve drawn up by hand, honestly that process looks more simple than downloading an FT plan. Also she just wanted to build a cub, somehow that doesn’t exist in simple form, even spent $12 on ft tutor plans thinking that’d be a simple build, but no it takes 8 pieces of foam board and is 56 pages of parts…. Feeling kinda ripped off. Josh where are the simple planes that a kid could build? We don’t have time to have a kit shipped. Once again it’s cool all the stuff you guys do, but this process has been anything but easy

This might be applied to model ships. There is a training center for ship captains in france with large models of real cargo ships on a man-made lake but the trainee still rides the model. This technique might make it closer to realofy.

Some ideas for the FliteTest folks. Years ago I did an internship at NASA, and spent the summer working with a guy building a 7' wingspan sailplane model (from hand-carved balsa wood) to test some things for full-scale aircraft designs. He needed a simple instrumentation system to tell him what the airplane was really doing, and he actually used (abused?) a radio control system in reverse: he mounted the transmitter guts in the airplane and used sensors in place of the normal joystick potentiometers; then he mounted the receiver servos on the ground station to indicate what the airborne sensors were detecting. In other words, he repurposed the transmitter as an instrumentation system. If you really want to represent on the ground what is going on in the air, you need to send data back from the airplane (see "telemetry" and "flight test instrumentation" as useful terms) to help drive the ground-based "cockpit" to replicate the airplane motion. That way the pilot feels what the airplane is ACTUALLY doing, not only what he's commanding it to do. You can also change the FPV camera angle using servos to track the head motion of the pilot. That would dramatically increase the sense of reality. This has been done by other KZbinrs for example kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5vKXqCJq9h8e8k

Yes! Put a flight controller in the airplane with IMU telemetry and then filter the feedback so it's not as harsh and you've got a full motion sim. Highly recommend Ardupilot for this. Start small with a mockup. Work your way up to full motion sim.

Please look at using Thrustmaster flight-control stick, throttle control, and rudder pedals. How does one take something designed for computer games and convert that to work with a radio transmitter? Additionally, you should have purchased a Next Level Racing Flight Sim Cockpit...and used that as the base chair.

even better, try a pedal powered bicycle hang glider, with large electric para-motor, maximize the wing surface area lift, instead of speed efficiency. yep should look somewhat like a water craft. but the wing is above, not below. target is to fly slowly, not have high efficiency no-fly wing. yep you are the power. your pedalling.

I bought one of your kits and am very disappointed, we asked for a full refund. No response after 3 weeks and contacted credit card company and they contacted flite test and you guys said we never asked for refund and sent us new plane. Not what we wanted the kit was complete crap and wouldn't stay in the air and the problem isn't that I haven't flew before I have 4 planes already so it is not skill but the motor cuts off randomly and we didn't get all the parts we needed for the kit. Not happy

As poorly as this first phase is implemented, i have very little hope for the success of this grandiose idea. The latency is totally unnecessary and shows that the system being used has too many signal conversions and intermediate processing. You should simply gut a transmitter and use it as the student, with joystick potentiometers connected to the circuit board of the transmitter where the gimbal pots were. There would be no added latency.

I had this idea worked out back when I was in college learning digital circuits, micro controllers and machine code. It was fully self contained full 360 on all axis. pneumatically operated. When I was discussing the design and how to proceed with friends and possible investors we realized silly humanz were failing reading comprehension and with the rise of you tube stupid for dollars we would lose everything the first time someone perpetrated stupid with the machines.
