My 7th grade Home Ec teacher, Mrs. Darling, instilled a sense of fear and failure in me regarding sewing. At 51 I am finally ready to learn to sew and I LOVE the fact that your site shares the name but has already helped me to believe that I can make friends with my sewing machine and experience success with needles and threads. Thank you!

Thank you for this. When I bought my machine after never sewed before it was pretty daunting , it has helped a lot. I don' t understand why people need to be rude. If you watch the video closely , it's actually basic common sense. Try watching the video once or twice then go through the threading process step by step, whilst pausing at each step. So thank you again for showing this.

I would like to suggest deleting this video and doing it again. Every time I needed to see something specific, the camera-person cut away to a full shot of her instead of keeping it zoomed in (like putting the bobbin into its holder-thingy). I'm a 50-year old male trying to teach my 8 and 9 year old daughters how to sew, and the last time I did any sewing was in the 7th grade. Basic camera-work for an instructional video gang.
@terryteed19035 жыл бұрын
There may be a specific tutorial for that elsewhere. I thought it was quite a good video. I wasn't bamboozled by it and it's made me a bit more confident with the first bit. I can spend more time on the finniky bit now.
@unclearnuclear Жыл бұрын
I agree. Most of the video, I thought "WHAT is the camera man doing?" the zoomed out shot doesn't even have her centered. If she were any lower, her hands and the machine would be off the screen. Additionally, the last step where she wraps the thread around something one final time before putting it through the eye of the needle, we have no way of telling which part she wrapped the thread around. There are several intricate pieces in that space and the camera is way too far for us to tell what is going on. I don't think it's a bad video by any means. I can get by. But as a complete beginner, more detail and specificity would have been appreciated there! Thank you anyway for the video.

Winding a bobbin and threading the machine is actually pretty simple, once you get the hang of it. But I have to say that I used to get frustrated sometimes with that bobbin casing. So now Singer, Janome, et al. make sewing machines with *drop-in* bobbins. It's so simple! Is there some advantage I've never been able to detect to having a machine where you have to deal with the bobbin case like this?
