Although feelings matter to modern Americans, in the past, others were not so accommodating. One's feelings do not matter when it comes to the rights of others and society. In fact, one of the first lessons in life that I learned was that my feelings were insignificant to the world and others' lives.

I have lived in the south for 30 years before moving from NY. I never once ever heard anyone of any ethnic background or race at work, church or my friends, speak about those statues. I worked with a bunch of black people, and that's what they said they were, black. Not African American or anything like that. Most of them were born in the south and old enough to remember segregation. Were they offended by all this kind of stuff? No. Even during lunch breaks they use to turn on shows like the Dukes of Hazard and loved watching it. Were they offended by the Rebel Flag on the "General Lee"? No not at all. What the media has pushed is what has people looking at things they never looked at or were offended by. The media along with our former president started the divide all over again.

They come for the statues of people they find offensive. Then they remove the works of those 'offensive' people, having undermined their validity. This allows them to unlawfully stop the 'offensive' speech of people with opinions and thoughts that they deem as such. Next, they come for the speakers themselves. At that point, they come for individuals even suspected of harboring 'offensive' opinions - even before they've expressed them...

Cameron Holmes actually, slavery was a very small political part of the WBS. It was mostly about the north imposing taxes on the south. It was all about control; Lincoln himself even said that he would have left the slaves in their bondage if there had been a way, how else would the south keep producing for the north??

Our monuments were made to honor those who fought & died. Well why would people put up a monument of the people who were trying to kill them? B/c at the end of the day, they understood we were all Americans. They were all brothers. Honoring your enemies is hard & something to be proud of. This mentality is lost on our youth today b/c they don't know history, respect & how it feels to gain respect after a fight/war. Thanks for the video Reed. You & Patriot Nurse are good role models.

OctoberHourglass well and also the south weren't trying to kill anyone. Their position was entirely defensive. The only real lesson learned was don't try to leave the US or they'll kill you for what they think they own of yours. Always a thing they hold over you. Hence the reason we are never able to truly own property. It's always something they can seize in time if you aren't constantly paying them for it. Just like everything else ...

I thought I wouldn't agree with this video (been following Reid since his Yeager days) but I have to say that I do agree with the general sentiment behind the video. Study your history and learn beyond what they teach in schools. We've become a society where people are trying to eliminate hearing things they don't want to hear. Etc. The statues? To me they belong in a museum. It's history. It happened. Should be studied and learned not eliminated. I won't troll too much by saying my sentiment about the Confederates and making monuments to people who could be considered traitors BUT they deserve to have their stories told and to be studied. Do they deserve monuments in the "public square?" No. They lost. Victors get monuments in the "public square." But the do deserve to be studied and have their place in history told.

Dexter King - I'm in the same boat as you are, I understand what this video is about and agree for the most part to an extent but I also think the same way you do. Our country had a war over this topic, why celebrate an enemy that represents a failed dark version of what America could have become. People like Loco claiming it was not about slavery are just lying to them selves. No it was certainly not only about slavery, it had a lot to do with taxes and export/import regulations the south was not pleased with among other things but certainly slavery had a part to play in the war. It was another grain of wheat on the mountain of tension that was growing between the north and south.

Loco Badger You obviously don't know much about the Civil War and history as a whole. How can Communism be in the Civil War? It is an extreme form of Socialism which is when people are paid according to their needs and the works they do. All property is publicly owned. The war itself was fought based on slavery, economics, and people who had believed that the government had no business telling them what to do. The government overstepping its role and interceding itself into the business of the south.

The USA was founded on treason to Great Britain so do you not see the easy escalation the Marxists have ALREADY made to attacking President George Washington as he was a Southern Rebel General traitor to his country of Great Britain and a slave owner. Already the Marxists are calling for removal of Founding Fathers, Andrew Jackson, The World War One monument and hundreds of other monuments, statues, buildings and street names in New Orleans. The Maoist Red Guards are only interested in destruction of everything in their Cultural Revolution and will NEVER be satisfied so there is no compromise or agreement that can be made with them. There is no peace to be made with these radicals and if the current pattern of Democrat leaders being able to call in ANTIFA and BLM and then ordering the police to stand down when violence happens continues there will be massive violence and rioting breaking out with huge loss of life. ANTIFA and BLM have been allowed to riot and engage in violence with little to no consequences thus far but it is quickly reaching a tipping point as ANTIFA and BLM have made a lot of enemies and unfortunately the Democrat party seems to be doing their best to orchestrate and ensure a violent outbreak of such a nature happens. We must ensure ANTIFA and BLM are declared terrorist organizations and police are allowed to do their jobs to prevent further violence and rioting without political interference.

Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, and Missouri were slave states that fought for the Union and many Union soldiers like Gen. U.S. Grant owned slaves. Slavery was legal in the USA from the start and existed before, during and after the short lived Confederacy up until the 13th Amendment passed. Many of the Confederate States only seceded because Lincoln was ordering them to raise armies to invade other states so they were rebelling against Lincoln's tyranny and desire to make war on the other states. The Civil War could have been avoided and the rebelling states would have come back into the USA without war eventually. Slavery would have ended in the USA with or without the Civil War just like it already had with European Countries as it had been fading out as more slave owners were freeing their slaves in the USA (Gen. Robert E. Lee for example was married to the daughter of President George Washington's adopted son and Gen. Lee was appointed executor of his wife's father's will which entailed the duty to manage slaves inherited from George Washington's estate and free them when the conditions of the will were met and these were the only slaves Robert E. Lee ever had any control over acting in his duty as the executor of a will to free them). The Confederate monuments were built in part from donations from Northern people and veterans from the Union army as after the war the veterans of the Civil War from both sides would often meet together in friendship as AMERICAN soldiers who had honorably served their duty during a difficult time to the best of their ability. We had multiple former Confederate officers who later served as Generals over U.S. troops in the Spanish American War and many other soldiers who had served in the Confederacy later served in the U.S. military after the Civil War. This is all about Cultural Marxism and Maoist Red Guards are out for total destruction of history as they know the true history of communism is failure, massive suffering and millions killed. The commies always use this same tactic and demonize all that stands in their way. The commie goal is to ultimately demonize the Founding Fathers, as many owned slaves, so they can demonize our Constitution so that they can justify destroying it and implement another Marxist socialist "paradise" for the liberal commie snowflakes.

Loco Badger you can't say the war was economic and say it wasn't over slavery. Slavery underpinning the US economy. Sure who is a traitor can be a matter of perspective but the victor in the Civil War was the United States not the Confederate ones. As such the Confederates could very well be painted as traitors.

"The parties changed over time as platform planks, party leaders, factions, and voter bases essentially switched between parties. Third parties aside, the Democratic Party used to be favored in the rural south and had a “small government” platform (which southern social conservatives embraced), and the Republican party used to be favored in the citied north and had a “big government” platform (which northern progressive liberals embraced). Today it is the opposite in many respects. Although what happened is complex and some voter bases and factions never switched, you can see evidence of the “big switches” by looking at the electoral map over time (where voter bases essentially flipped between 1896 and 2000). Or, you can see it by comparing which congressional seats were controlled by which parties over time (try comparing the 115th United States Congress under Trump to the 71st United States Congress under Hoover for example). Or, you can see the “solid conservative south switch” specifically by looking at the electoral map of the solid south over time. Or, you can dig through the historic party platforms. Any of those links will give you a look at the basics of what did and didn’t change, but the details are as complex as U.S. party history."

you are pathetic. also, why should modern day democrats bear responsibility for what people of their party believed and/or did over 150 years ago? by that token, since they were all Americans, does that mean you as an American should take just as much responsibility? should you have to tale responsibility for the kkk's actions and beliefs today since the virtually all modern KKK members are right wing/conservative/Republican?(though to be fair, based on your comments on this video you seem like you wouldn't have a problem with that.) should modern day white Sox players and fans take responsibility, or feel shame for the actions of the 1919 white Sox when they threw the world series? should modern Christians/jews be blamed for using the bible to promote slavery(which it does), or for the genocides they committed in the torah/bible, or for burning and hanging tens, if not hundreds of thousands of witches because for some reason their god thinks witches actually exist, and commanded them to kill them?

Separation of Church and State. Religious symbols in State/government run places should be removed. People would flip out if all the sudden symbols of Islam or other religions were on display in these same places... Same goes for prayer. No one should be forced into that although I don't think there's anything wrong with it if all parties involved condone it. Not everyone believes the same thing. And that's ok.

Sig _nified separation of church and state was put into the constitution to keep the state out of the church, not the church out of the state. Our founding fathers required every community of a certain size to have a free school that taught the Bible as well as math and history and reading. Read their papers on a godless society!!! It was put in because in England, the king would pay the priests to tell the people what to think and it was God's will. But like everything else, a few Whining people and a corrupt government has said that anything to do with God must be removed!!! Nobody is forcing prayer on anyone. If you don't want to pray then don't. However it's supposed to be ok for muslims to build mosques and have their call to prayer on loud speakers? Is that forcing it on us? It's just another way to control the minds of people and taking away from our history.

Why do you call the Southerners traitors? The Sovereign States created the US constitution when the Ratified it. The States granted the federal government certain powers. The constitution as merely an agreement between the States as declared in Article 7 of the Constitution. So when THEY created the constitution, and as a result created the federal government and thus granted the granted it certain limited powers, when did the States ever give up their right to take back those powers in order to secede from the Union? According to the 10th Amendment the Federal government has ONLY the powers granted to it and the States have ALL the powers except the powers the express give up. So where did they ever express they were giving up that right? They did not. The federal government was never granted the authority to stop any State from leaving the Union and no State was forbidden from leaving the Union. Therefore they had the right to live the union at any time they wanted to without anybodies permission.
@RolandDeschain198

I don't "call" Confederates traitors. Article 3 Section 3 of the US constitution defines them as such. They did not become traitors when they left the union. They become traitors on Thursday, April 11, 1861. When they attacked the US military base at Fort Sumter (and in so doing levied war against the United States).

In agreement 100% with this video.I was born in Italy and became a US citizen, I have studied the history of this great nation visited some of the battlefield, Saratoga, Yorktown, Gettysburg, Manassas and others (beautifully preserved by the American battlefield trust) learned about the birth of the nation and the civil war. Especially in these days of cancel culture I am proud to have a confederate and a union flag in my home in honor to those that fell for their cause. It is a shame how many falls to a limited view of history and are quick to judge the past with eye of the present without using perspective.I have travelled the world quite a bit, pretty much every continent and continue to do so for work and this country is the last stand for freedom. Famously Benjamin Franklin once said, “we give you a republic, if you can keep it” . There is no room for error. There is no place to hide if this country falls to collectivism and many states have already fallen. But there is hope as long as people like Reid that speaks the truth are out there. Thank you Reid for spreading the message of freedom and Liberty.

The Civil War monuments/statues were put up in the locations where they were first placed to remind future generations that this country was once divided between North and South, remember men on both sides whether it be the South fighting for independence, or the North Fighting to end slavery etc, died for their countries at the time, yes countries, the states were divided via Confederate South and Union North. Removing these pieces of history from their historical land is an offense to everyone and it offends the history of this country...Might as well pull a Pol Pot revolution and force EVERYONE to forget their past by destroying artifacts, books, statues, or be executed. Killing millions for not believing or supporting in the ideas of the regime.

It is because of the dangerous times that we live in that I urge every good, law abiding citizen to get armed and trained to use any weapon. ANY WEAPON. Guns, knives, axes, swords, spears, bows and arrows, clubs, sticks, rocks, and right down to your bare hands. Your life is first and foremost in your own hands, then comes your family, friends, peers, and fellow citizens. Train your mind, body, and spirit. All around fitness of these three components is crucial. Learn to live off of the land. Disasters destroy modern comforts and conveniences. Lastly, be proud of who you are. Be proud of your race, culture, and nation. Plant your flag and stand your ground.

5:36 In the first draft of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson tried to outlaw slavery. He didn't like it as an institution and he thought it ironic that the only reason he was in a position to write such a document was because he had enough wealth for people to listen to him. It was Benjamin Franklin, who didn't own slaves, that made him take it out, saying "that is a fight for another day."

It's not that they want to erase history. They want to get rid of the "celebration" of these men on monuments. But there should always be a middle ground and a civil way to do things.

There's a statue here in Dearborn, MI of a former mayor that they want to tear down from the front of their historical museum, because apparently he was racist. They've already moved the statue twice, tucking it now into a shadowed corner and not even having a plaque any longer stating his name nor who he was.

Reid I completely agree with your thoughts and the idea that education trumps ignorance and hurt feelings. I think that miseducation and ignorance are the primary reasons that people are so upset. Many people have misconceptions about the Confederacy, why the Civil War took place, and more importantly why the monuments were erected. The adoption of items cherished by the confederacy by hate groups is the main driver behind the statues removal. I think that education on both sides is warranted.

People "feel" too damn much these days and let their emotions lead their actions. There was a civil war.. it had little to do with slavery. Men on both sides died for what they believed in. They were Americans. They should be remembered and what they fought for should be remembered. History repeats itself when we forget it and being that we're dangerously close to such division as existed right before the civil war, it would be a good time to learn from our past.

It had a lot to do with slavery. But it also had a lot to do with other things. But almost all the monuments are to soldiers, not politicians, and it is true that slavery had little or nothing to do with what they were fighting for.

I'm Tejano from Texas. This Government has labeled me Mexican-American but that's a made up name Chicano or Tejano is what an American with ancestry from south of the boarder should be called. My Bloodline is 5 generations in Texas before it was the Republic and joined the U.S so no I will never be ok with removing Sam Houston or any Texas revolution statues. My Ancestors fought in that war against the Mexican Army. It's my Heritage.

Amen brother. I agree 100% on all accounts. With that said, what is everyone’s solution to this growing problem? Obliviously, neither side isn’t going to budge on their views with just talking. The violence from the left is growing and people like us have had enough. Seriously, where do you all see this going? Is a second civil war an actual possibility? I hope not but things aren’t looking good. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

Glad you mentioned Orwell, who was a socialist. He was a fierce critic of totalitarianism, such as in USSR. After 1924, with death of Lenin, the development of true socialism in that country ceased. Economically, they became state capitalists. Reid, you are intellectually curious, it seems. Being and older gentleman, I’d offer a bit of advice: travel. Travel to differ cultures around the world and listen. Don’t simply go to reinforce your bias, go with an open mind...if you can. It turned my life around. Best education in the world.
