I really enjoy your dizi videos! I have one! and you're the only person I can find that talks about them! I would enjoy if you kept making them! or teach some songs to play, since usually there's no sheet music! ^ ^
@TinYatDragon8 жыл бұрын
Thanks and glad you like it! The way to learn dizi is not to learn by sheet music, cuz you want the "soul" of dizi, not be a dizi robot! :) Best music comes out from energy interaction and senses. I will talk about that later on lol!

Hi Sir. I just bought my first Dizi key of d and played it for a month. Then i've noticed that its a little bit curve like a parentesis ( but not too much. Does it affect the sound of my Dizi.?

Would greatly appreciate some info on membranes. How often it is needed to change the membrane? What to do if the membrane is too narrow and can't cover the hole? Is it okay to stack two layers? Thanks!
@TinYatDragon8 жыл бұрын
2 layers is not good, it's not going to work. I have membranes that sticks on for over 1 year and some 1.5 yrs, they have no problem at all when stick on nicely. The only time you need to change is when your membrane is not working anymore or it sound weird and "dead" or it is hard to play the highest notes. You play the dizi and go around the scale to test all notes, if membrane not working, then you cannot make a sound. You can give it some air with the mouth going "HAAAALLLLLLLL on the membrane and then stretch it left and right a bit with your thumb. If it tightens up nicely and your dizi work again, why bother changing eh? If membrane is too narrow? That's not gonna happen, my biggest dizi has a big hole, but still okay with membrane. Have you cut the membrane loopie? Those membrane are skinny because you need to stick a scissor in it and cut the thing in half, then it opens up the loop and gets very big.

Tin Yat Dragon and I thought I'm that bad at blowing into the flute... :D Using 2 layers... :D Thanks! Gonna reapply the membrane the right way once I get the new pack delivered.

everything is so complex in life, even buying a flute!
@TinYatDragon4 жыл бұрын
it is complex because you have "taste" in things, not just like a noob buying things by "feeling" only. When you have wisdom and knowledge inside yourself, you start to be picky, because you can finally know what's good and bad, which sets the standard for things.

@@TinYatDragon Thank you...So I must be very wise then, as I am very picky about everything....but can you please tell me where I can buy one of these ? I am in Australia. Thank you x

Stupid question but I’ve found a crack on the one I’m borrowing from a friend, idk if it’s just that cold in my house that it’s cracked or if it were always like that but I have no problem getting a sound out, is that wrong? Is the crack that bad,‘?
@TinYatDragon6 күн бұрын
seal the crack with some silicone (transparent) or super glue to prevent it really cracking open.

Oops. I should have watched this a bit earlier. Bought a cheap dizi by bamboo from China. I live in Sweden. was -30°C some days ago. But a bit warmer now. well. Since it was cheap it's not a big loss of money If it crack... but I will have to wait longer before I can start playing!

I wonder do people today ever actually play jade flutes, or are they more as ornamental? Also I always thought a dizi had eight holes and yet, I see they often have ten when I look to buy one, am I missing something here? :)
@TinYatDragon Жыл бұрын
jade flutes are sold but they are not "better" sounding than bamboo. People use bamboo more because its cheap and its also has a more lively vibration. However they do crack if you don't take care of it and live in a place that gets moist and dry changes all the time. Another option would be titanium which is nice too. I bought a $200 xiao that is titanium and it is also my defense weapon lol! Dizi usually have 6 finger holes and 1 blow hole 1 membrane holes. The other holes at the bottom are for sound tuning which is used by the craftman.
@PracticaProphetica6 ай бұрын
The hole between the blow hole and the six fingering holes is for the dimi (a bamboo membrane that is glued over the hole to give a slightly sharp edge to the tone). As TinYat said, the two holes at the very bottom are just for tone, you don't cover them. Sometimes they are used to hang a red knotted ornament. The exception to this are the bass Dizi, which can have seven or eight fingering holes.

What if I have a cheap one and it doesnt work
@TinYatDragon8 жыл бұрын
then buy a new one or fix the cheap one, there should / could be a crack, seal the crack with glue (superglue) and it should work. If still not work then there should be a leak somewhere inside the top, look with a flashlight going thru blowhole and find any cracks / leak and seal it up, it should work then.

So i want to get a cheap dizi, so i want to get the last flute you show. But I live in a very cold area, so i don't want to have a cracked flute. So i want something cheap, yet durable so I can discover the flute and see if i enjoy playing. What do you recommend?

those cheapo $5 flute dont' break at all, somehow htey are less easy to crack than the expensive ones lol I am not joking here, it's true!

do you know what the difference between all the different types of wood?
@TinYatDragon7 жыл бұрын
Well, I am not expert in that, but in general the hard wood is more mellow in sound and bamboo is more vibrating and lively or crispy. You can also say the bamboo is more easy to crack and hardwood is more durable. The heavier the wood, the more heavy the sound tone too
