The best part about these videos is that I get to see tools and techniques in action. They are a big help for a beginner.

@@runy69 I agree. For a "how to" video, there is very little explanation. What are the tools called that he is using? What type of torch is needed to heat silver to melting temperature? What is he sprinkling in with the melted silver (that's one of the few things I do know. It's borax) What thickness are you supposed to roll that ingot out into? Its neat to watch the process, and some information can be gleaned from that. But I wouldn't consider this an instructional or "how-to" video.

@@Plant_Parenthood the most intriguing part is how to measure the top so that the bezel fits that perfectly.

That scale pattern is so unique and cool looking. Honestly, if you made a slightly smaller version and called it a "mermaid ring" you'd probably sell hundreds.

I'd set it with mother-of-pearl or opal, maybe with the option of engraving a simple symbol.

I had no idea how much went into making a ring. I recently bought several on Etsy and I’m glad I forked out what I did because they deserve it, it’s no joke.
@Plant_Parenthood6 ай бұрын
There are different ways of making rings. This is just one of many methods. Nowadays, a lot of people print a model of the ring in wax filament (or similar) and use that to cast the project in silver or gold. Then they just have to clean it up a little. But you are right, whichever method is used, a lot of work goes into it!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I love this design and would love to make this ring for an oval star sapphire. At 0:05 the two cut out templates that you used to put inside the ingot mold; were those hand made and if so, were they cut out of wood? And at 4:41 when you drew/rolled out the rectangular wire, do you remember what dimensions (thickness and width) you used (looks a bit like 1 to 1.5mmx3mm, but it could be thicker), also what at what increments did you use to mark out the scale design at 4:48? My guess from eyeballing it is about 5mm.
@tapiocaheadgurl7 ай бұрын
I also forgot to ask, what liquid did you pour into the ingot mold right after at 0:09 ?

it would be nice if you could also show the annealing processes so as to get a better idea of how often that occurs during the making of this ring !
@peacemakercc Жыл бұрын
It occurs any time the metal needs softened to work. Ex. You can only make a couple passes through the rolling mill before needing to anneal. So if you had to make 10 passes through it, maybe 3 annealings for that piece. Also before shaping anything like the first piece shown, anneal before hammering.
