First time cooking using my new wood burning stove! I've wanted to cook over a flame for sooooo long but didn't want to risk damaging the area. This stove meant I could cook over flame safely without the worry of burning down the forest 😂 I really enjoyed trying this out, it's compact and so easy to use. This budget wood stove is excellent value for money and I'd highly recommend it......... Here's a link to the product if you wanted to check it out (this is an affiliate link , meaning I receive a small commission if you decide to make a purchase, at no cost to you)
The exact item i purchased is no longer available, but heres a link for one that is very similar if not exactly the same.

Mmmmm Steak Looks like a good result. Softwood for boiling Hardwood for broiling Softwood - pine and larch (coniferous) produce lots more flame, which is better suited for boiling Hardwood - Oak, Birch Beech (deciduous) produce hot glowing embers, which is better suited for broiling (roasting) Ash is a good all rounder, Birch twigs produce good flame too. Great vid Jem. Who hasn’t had a steak fall in the fire. Stay safe 🙂

I love wood burning stoves! It’s fascinating learning all the different methods you can use for cooking with an enclosed fire, though you may find yourself ending up buying a Firebox or Bushbox or 2 😆

Hey Peter, it's a game changer! Why would you recommend these 2 specifically? 😁
@peterjessop1878
@peterjessop1878 2 жыл бұрын
@@jemsjournal I think the main reasons is build quality and flexibility, but of course you pay for that. I personally prefer Fireboxes, but they are relatively difficult to get in the UK. There is only one importer I believe. The main reasons I prefer the Fireboxes are: 1) it’s multi fuel. I can use it with wood,charcoal, wood pellets even Trangia alcohol and gas burners. 2) airflow and control of airflow: one of the problems with wood stoves is when you put a pan on them often they reduce the flame as airflow is diminished. The Fireboxes have really good airflow due to its design. It has a built in damper at the top and you convert the ashtray to be a bottom flow damper, effectively allowing you to control the temperature at least to a degree. 3) it doesn’t warp: Build quality is such that it will last you a lifetime and possibly your Childrens’s too. 4) it can be used to cook anything even pizza and cakes. On the downside the big Firebox is too heavy for thru hiking but I use the smaller Nano for backpacking duties. Price is clearly an issue too but if you get into using wood stoves it’s a price worth paying in my view.

Hi Jem. I have the same stove, bought a couple of years ago. Due to the weight I only use it for car camping and in the garden. It is a good stove for the money but I found that when I put a pot or a kettle on top it choked the fire and created a lot of smoke. Therefore if you are going to use a pot I recommend getting some sort of trivet to create a space between the top of the stove and the underside of the pot to help the hot gases escape. This stove also works well with charcoal although is does burn quite so hot so I found that lump-wood works better than briquettes which tended to burn out too quickly. All the best.

New subscriber ! Great little wood burner I've had one a while now. I see you worked out the handles trick it does limit the size of pan but if your cooking directly on the grill works a treat. I also use a plumbers soldering mat under mine rather than foil it weights slightly more but you can reuse it many times it saves the ground and grass an I also use it under my alcohol stove and larger firebox. Great video keep the coming !

@@jemsjournal most definitely, the ridge monkey sandwich toaster is basically two square, non stick frying pans with a hinge, they can be separated and used as solo frying pan and come with detachable handles and plastic spatulas etc that are stored in their own tray inside the frying pans when the two are connected, and it all comes in a handy storage bag. I use mine on top of a titanium wood burner like yours. It means the last steak I cooked in one of the frying pans had mushrooms and asparagus with it that were cooked in the second pan. Have a look at some KZbin reviews of it, I'd recommend the XL version. It's a fantastic bit of kit for cooking
