Glad to see you back doing a-ha, felt like you had given up on them.

Woo Hooo !! More a-ha. Personally I think that the writing of the song is strong enough that it can be a pop song (EB's version) and an emotional epic (a-ha's version). I love the a-ha version. The thunder sounds give me chills every time. Great idea to react to both !!!

EB version is fine for a classic '60s record with nice harmonies.A-ha's is gorgeous early '90s and still some wouldn't suspect this was recorded rearly 34 years ago if he didn't know. Sounds so curent.Members of A-ha are EB fans.They also did live EB cover either while touring the 3some but also Morten live without them btw.

I quite enjoy listening to both versions, and as a massive a-ha fan this is one of my favorite recordings. Even the Everly Brothers said in 1990 that this is one of their most beloved covers.

I think you've said it all, I love this song. The darker and deeper side of the A-ha band Is perfect to this EB song. Thanks for sharing this one 👏

It's rare that a cover is better than the original- they elevated the song to another darker, more mysterious level! so good!

This is the first song ever that I can remember hearing. My earliest memory is riding around in the backseat of my dad's jeep, listening to the Everly Brothers, Neil Young, and Tom Petty. This song is the earliest one I can remember hearing. A very special memory.

I totally adore this song - I remember listening to the UK Radio 1 show "Round Table" where they reviewed the weeks singles in 1990, and I think DJ Dave Lee Travis said something along the lines of, 'When I heard A-ha were doing a cover version, I though that was not a good sign and a signal of a lack of creativity, but when I actually heard it - wow, it's just fantastic'. Also, the B-side to the single, "(Seemingly) Non-Stop July", really told fans to prepare for something very different....

As far as I know this is the only (original cover) a-ha did that made their studio albums. They knew (at least one of) the Everly brothers - and as you said, they gave each one of them a guitar. They did this song justice. Beautiful rendition. 🌹🕊 PS: Hope you will do more a-ha!! Maybe you should try "Did anyone approach you" from their Lifelines album - I think you may like it - post 2000.

i'm also still waiting for some bits of their debut.Such as 'The blue sky", or even the synth 'Dream my self alive' if not also 'Soft rains of April'/'Whales" from its follower.

Yep! Dereck NEEDS to check out The Soft Rains of April - I’ve tried to tell him it is right up his alley!😊

Kinda 'unfair" to compare cause it's quite subjective and depends on each ones memories, taste and emotional connection.So this way, i'll vote for A-ha' Btw if i had to discribe to someone Morten's voice then the closest i could get is that he has the vocal crystal clearness of Roy Orbinson,the versatility and punchy dash of David Bowie and the manly warmth of Barry Gibb.All these "flavours" put together by nature and without canceling his unique personal identity.Just my perception.

Thanks a lot ! Don and Phil's mix of voices are so pure and ethereal that it reaches perfection. Their harmonies are unbeatable. Art Garfunkel did a smooth cover with James Taylor.

You're right, Dereck, both versions are wonderful in their own unique way and no need to choose a favourite. This was the first time I had heard the Everly Bros version, what a lovely composition.

Both songs are amazing. My father loves the every brothers so I already knew this song. When I heard Aha I was gobsmacked! Amazing!! I am a devoted fan! Alphaville is another band I am devoted to that I have to import albums not released in the US.

I love A-HA’s version much more. A-HA were on the same record label as the everly brothers and were asked if they would cover the song. All three members of A-HA were gifted with guitars after. Happy easter and take care. ❤️🇳🇴❤️A-HA FOREVER❤️🇳🇴❤️ 😘🏴

Derek another double reaction to do is The Hollies, He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother and The Osmonds did a cover of that song and it pretty much became The Osmonds theme song. I think you should use the Osmonds video from 1971 (Tokyo Japan). I think it's a guys song and Marie don't really fit in there. IMHO.
@cindyerick29686 ай бұрын
Nevermind I don't think the Osmonds ever released it as a single so it's not really a cover is it? It did become their theme song though. The harmony is amazing.
