I didn't have carrot cake until I was 13 or 14. Mom found a recipe that had grated carrots, pineapple, raisins and walnuts with cream cheese frosting. I was kind of leery at first. The thought of carrots in a cake sounded kind of gross, but it was so good! Been one of my favorite cakes ever since - right behind chocolate.

I don't know what that orange filling is but the American version uses cream cheese frosting. And a side note if you substitute the water in the cake mixes with milk the cake comes out fluffy.

Wait until Mr Rana finds out there is actually such a thing as potato cake, also eggplant lasagna, and potato bread. Carrot cake is so good & can be made in different ways. I personally like the kind with crushed pineapple, chopped walnuts & raisins. Also, the carrot decoration is usually orange & green colored frosting piped in the shape of a carrot. Maybe they could try pineapple upside-down cake someday, and show them a video of it being flipped out of the pan so they know why it's called an upside-down cake.

A Friend of mine shared a Photo of a Cake some one had made the other day. And when Gul Sher asked if They would serve him a chicken leg shaped cake one day. I remembered this cake my friend shared a photo of. The cake is a typical fried chicken dinner. All in the form of a cake. The dinner/cake consists of fried chicken, mashed potato's & gravy, baked macaroni & cheese, and Cornbread. They made 3 cake layers out of cornbread. Placing a layer of baked macaroni & cheese. Between each layer of cornbread. Then Iced the cake with Mashed potato's. Drizzled / poured brown gravy over it. and then topped it with two fried Drum sticks / chicken legs, As well as a thigh and a chicken breast. I wish I could attach the photo here too share it with them. I am certain it would have them left in shock. At its creativity.

Carrot cake is very tasty. I like banana cream pie's better actually, but both are good. Cake with vegetable in it does seem weird, as they say, but it's good. "Strawberry rhubarb pie", is the only other dessert with a vegetable in it being rhubarb which grows in the ground like a plant. that i can remember. That is also a sweet vegetable dish. That is worth trying if they have not had it yet.

Carrot cake is one of my favorite. Everybody does it different, but I have never seen it like in that first picture. I start with a boxed carrot cake mix and add 1/2 cup of shredded carrots, raisins, and walnuts. I sometimes swap the water for apple juice if I have any. It makes for a very heavy dense cake, but still soft and moist. It takes a while to cook all the way through. I then make the frosting from cream cheese, powdered sugar, and a bit of lemon juice. It tends to be less sweet than the store bought crap. I have no problem with most other frosting types, but I can not stand store bought cream cheese frosting. It tastes nothing like it should.

Carrot cake (or most cakes) are too sweet for my taste - I make with HALF the sugar & plain whipped cream in between the layers, or is too sickly-sweet and inedible for me.😝

There's a Scottish sweet called macaroon-bar, which is made using potatoes, as one of the main ingredients! It's a very sweet fondant bar, covered in toasted coconut, & made by a company called Lee's. If you can find it online, I'm pretty sure the guys would be blown away, especially when you tell them there's potato in it!! 😲

I was given an old recipe book that was made for a centennial my home town of Howells, Nebraska had a long time ago. There is a recipe in it for "Sausage Cake"; and yes, one of the ingredients called for one pound of raw ground breakfast sausage. It is NOT savoury, it is a sweet cake.

I'm Irish too, I've never eaten potato cakes, but I know what they are. It's not a sweet cake, rather a savoury thing. It's leftover potato mixed with flour and cooked. It was probably very popular years ago, but not now.

Here, I’ve only ever seen cream cheese frosting, but it’s still pretty understandable that we are our own worst enemy when it comes to diet related health problems like diabetes. Unfortunately we’re pretty horrible with health and addressing it in the United States but spice cake (with or without carrot) is pretty awesome with or without the frosting. I’m just unfortunately allergic to cinnamon so it’s not allowed anymore. 🙁
