Probably already said by someone else in the comments before me, but the first song "One" is written about the movie "Johnny got his gun" where a soldier returns from the war and the doctors have to cut all his limbs so he's basically a head and a torso. And the head doesn't even function, he's blind and he only feels the warmth of the sun so he can understand what time i is by feeling the different phases of the sun's warmth. He wants to be put out of his misery cause imagine being a head and a torso, it's a living hell, but he can't speak and he can't communicate it to the doctors until he starts sending signals somehow to a nurse through a machine and the nurse understands that he wants to die. And when she tries to do it for him the doctors caught her red-handed and they made him continue to live like that. A very dark movie. Now the lyrics will make more sense I think. Also, Korn did it live for the Metallica tribute in front of Metallica. You gotta see Korn's performance and Metallica's reaction, thank me later.
@TeddyGreyOS

@@TeddyGreyOS exactly, it's a nightmare scenario, the movie is about the horrors of war we don't even consider, like all those soldiers coming back dysfunctional etc. But the Metallica tribute by Korn, man, it's like Jonathan Davis (Korn frontman) gave his ALL. He showed how much he respected Metallica and also the horrifying meaning of the song and he conveyed that through his performance. He made it kinda terrifying.

If I recall correctly, this was a show for the fall of the iron curtain and the separation of the USSR. It had Metallica and Pantera in attendance. This is one of the biggest concerts to date. The album that Enter Sandman and The Unforgiven are on (The Black Album) is STILL in the billboard top 200 and has been since 1991 from it's release.

I think the sound of the "half-a-note", is two completely different guitars played by two different guys, coming in at two different places. The lead singer also plays backup guitar. There's a lead guitar. And, a bassist and a drummer. Most of the effects, minus the echoes and vocal effects, can be played live and sound good, if not better.

Master of puppets is about drugs - the lyrics “needlework the way” and “chop your breakfast on a mirror” are the giveaways. The middle angelic solo is the high. And the harshness at the end is the comedown and the anger. When I was a teenager in the late 80’s, parents and media trying to cancel Metallica due to suicide and promoting drugs - Metallica’s actual lyrics here = ‘don’t do drugs’

"One" lost the band a lot of fans, who said they had sold out. Metallica said for years they would never do a music vid because they hated the shite on MTV. The sound effects are from the film clips used in the official video. It makes a lot more sense why the song is constructed the way it is if you watch the video. The song is based on an old film about a soldier who lost his limbs and senses to an explosion. The story moved James so much he wrote a song dedicated to the soldiers that survive war but wish they had not.

Never thought One lost any fans, just the opposite... Metallica hated the videos on MTV so they made something so utterly crushing that they literally "changed the channel". If you're old enough think about the kind of videos MTV played up to 1991 and then what started coming out afterwards, it was like suddenly there was a worldwide competition for production quality and emotional impact.

Thank you for sticking around man! Unfortunately a lot of the metal reactions get blocked on KZbin 🥲 but Patreon has almost 100 blocked metal/rock reactions that you will have missed out on! I haven’t stopped on the metal train at all don’t worry, it’s just that KZbins copyright system is annoying as all hell 🫠
