@@GOTGames For an album of all-original songs by a singer-songwriter (Chappell and co-writer/producer Dan Nigro, plus other co-writers), IMO it borders on the totally unprecedented. Fourteen songs, EVERY. ONE. A. GEM. Who else has done that? Ever? Somebody tell me. I have to go all the way back to Born To Run, 1975... I'm mostly about rock n roll, blues, and to an extent punk. Few pop girlies have ever impressed me much. Scattered songs here and there, but full albums, no. Until "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," which has totally captivated me. Dubbing it the album of the year is an insult. It's minimum the album of the decade.

I suggest Chappell’s performance of Good Luck, Babe on Jimmy Fallon next. Just unbelievable. You won’t have to look far to get tons of information on Chappell. I won’t gaysplain her but I have a daughter who also has bipolar disorder, so that I can speak to. The fact that Chappell can cope with suddenly blowing up everywhere is remarkable. And the fact she’s holding on for dear life as she tries to adjust to it, and voicing what she’s going through, reminds me so much of my own daughter’s self awareness and fearlessness in speaking her truth. I have tremendous respect for her and hope she’s able to ride it out while keeping a firm hold on her identity and ensuring she can meet her needs.

please please more Chappell Roan!!! I discovered her early this year and was also immediately obsessed and completely drawn in. She is an incredible songwriter, performer, vocalist, everything truly. You HAVE to react to Good Luck, Babe! next (her Jimmy Fallon live performance is my favorite-the VMAs one is great too but i like the Fallon one a bit more I think) and there are so many other performances for you to dive into. Honestly her whole debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is incredible, I highly recommend it. If you do music videos definitely do My Kink Is Karma, Casual, and Pink Pony Club. No one is doing clever, campy, fun yet heartfelt pop like she is at the moment in my opinion. so happy to see that you enjoyed!!!

Omg I’m so excited for this rabbit hole with you! I came for Taylor initially, but I also love Chappell! You’re going to be obsessed with her live performances at like Coachella and whatnot. For a little background about her story. She’s from the Midwest in the states (she’s from Missouri which I consider the south - I’m from Arkansas which is right below Missouri and we’re about as southern as it gets lol) . She’s an “overnight success” that took 10 years in the making. She had a label, moved to cali, got dropped from the label, moved back to Missouri and kept singing until she made it big seemingly overnight. She’s also queer. A lot of her songs are about her life story and her journey into discovering herself and dealing with complexities about sexuality living in places that don’t accept queer people, etc. she’s amazing! This was exactly my reaction upon first seeing this. I saw her cover of Elton John's Your Song and then came over to watch this tiny desk. It's so mind-blowing to come upon someone like this who's just burst upon the scene. I would put her beyond generational talent and immediately up into the rarefied air of people like Freddie Mercury and David Bowie. And that's even before looking at the aesthetics of her approach. Love Chappell! She's from Missouri, same area as me! Its interesting, the accent thing seems really hit or miss here, some people have really thick ones and other people have really mild ones. :) Her's is quite nice. (Also, the singer is Chappell. I think her supporting artists vary based on the performance. The strings in this performance is more subdued than a lot of her things due to the Tiny Desk format. )

Never heard of her at all. Feel asleep one evening about a week ago watching you tube. I wake up to her finishing Picture You on Tiny Desk. I was having a sad dream while she was singing that song. I started crying immediately after waking up, while she was finishing the last few lines in that song. Her voice touched my soul.

She actually IS playing a character. There's a real person using Chappell Roan as a stage name, but she's also treating it like a Drag name. This is an exaggerated version of her personality.

OMG yes Luke!! I loved this so so much! U gotta react to Good luck babe live on the tonight show! and the same song live at the VMAs (both those performances are too good I can't choose) And u gotta react to her song "HOTTOGO" live at lollapalooza or the music video (or both, u gotta hear hottogo live n the music vid is really good)!!

I just started listening to her about a week ago. I put on the Tiny Desk Concert while I was working. Literally got sucked in to her her performance and couldn't pull my eyes away from her. I would love to see her perform with Tori Amos. I was obsessed with Tori when I was in high school (in the 90's).
