Femininomenon is mainly about how women struggle to climax when intimate with men, and we need to get what we want. 'Got so close and then you lost it'. That 'play a song with fckin beat!' is like, 'satisfy me! Meet my needs!' When she's not finishing her sentences in her chorus, it's because she's not finishing - in that sense.

I mean that’s definitely an interpretation of it yes but Chappell said in an interview it’s mainly about how it’s a phenomenon that sleeping with a man is better than sleeping with a woman bc it’s not lol and she said that it’s also feminine bc it’s about what women want and need so they mashed the words together and made a song about it haha like “why can’t any man” please a woman like another woman can, at least in her experiences

Chappell stated in an interview that California was wrote before the label drop and it was about her being sad and lonely in L.A. and she wanted her dad to come pick her up because she let herself down and was homesick and had to create a life by-herself and it was hard and lonely so the “I” in the “I let you down” is herself and how she thought she’d instantly feel like herself in Cali but that wasn’t the reality…yet. I absolutely love "My Kink is Karma", "Pink Pony Club" & "California"-- but my favorite is "Kaleidescope." She wrote Kaleidoscope because she had told her best friend she was in love with her. She told her and her friend asked for time to process what she'd said. She wrote "Kaleidescope" to say that It would all work out- That love is love and over time even if her didn't also have romantic feelings for her, that she could eventually get over her feelings and transmute it back into just loving her as a friend... I've heard her interviewed and this has come up as a very frequent issue among gay people- especially women since they're often very close to their female friends. I tear up every time I hear it.

California is genuinely one of my favs on the album. As someone who is from the Midwest like Chappell and is a part of the queer community, this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of leaving the midwest but still longing to be home. There is something truly special about the midwest and the culture of it. Chappell wrote this song during covid and was struggling as an artist during this time. She actually got dropped from her record label during covid. She truly felt like she was letting her family down. And I think this album is really full circle for the rise and the fall of being queer and wanting to have that outlandish lifestyle but still holding onto the grounds that shaped you.

when she headlines her own shows, she likes to have local drag queens as her opening acts (and it’s expected that audience members will tip) !! her shows also have themes so people can dress up for the shows and it’s very camp and silly and fun, i just think the atmosphere she creates for her art and performances is such a celebration of queer sex and love and joy. it’s so fun to have beautiful, fun, upbeat songs about queer sex especially lesbian/sapphic sex when in our culture it’s so taboo for queer women to admit that we aren’t these chaste demure sexless women who just want to hold hands and go on picnics and do one another’s makeup… sometimes we want to get freaky with it!! it sparks so much queer joy that a young gay woman being so vulnerable and honest about her sexuality is becoming such a pop sensation. chappell roan you will always be famous

yessssss, the queer woman joy album i've loved for months. she's been on my radar since i saw Pink Pony Club years ago and she's so good. she uses drag queens in her live shows, i'm pretty sure. also GOD, i listen to 'coffee' on REPEAT constantly. My Kink is Karma Pink Pony Club (this one is actually one of my favourite songs of all time and has been for the past couple of years since I first heard it) I love this album so much, I don’t think I’ve heard anything quite like it before. The more campy songs made me think of drag race instantly and I can see them using her songs for lip syncs if they haven’t already! Also the line about watching mean girls and crushing on Regina George? So relatable. Imagine a collab between her and Renee Rapp? 😍😍😍

a couple thoughts i want to share! -hot to go! is intended to have a cheer feeling to it! chapell made a cheer dance to go with it :)) -chappell has done some odd vocals for olivia’s songs, they share a producer as other comments have already impied. so they’re quite aware of eachother! -the music video for casual is absolutely incredible and leans more into sapphic relationships where someone is scared by the idea of being out. i highly recommend watching it.

Red Wine Supernova is a) a reference to Champagne Supernova by Oasis but also b) it's the drink at a party (red wine) and the feeling that comes with drinking red wine and the feelings she's having with this person who's turning on (i mean--when someone hits it right it can be explosive---like a supernova).
