First time flying on Tarom / Amsterdam to Bucharest (Economy)

Another first time airline for me. The Romanian flag carrier Tarom from Amsterdam to Bucharest (RO362) in their economy class. I have never flown on Tarom and I also have never been to Romania before so this will be a very interesting flight and trip for me. You never know what you're going to get which kind of adds to the fun...sometimes.

Good review. You probably don't know this but TAROM is in a restructuring process, as it is operating deeply in the red. The pandemic was the thing that made them take action and become more of a hybrid airline. At the time, TAROM offers only water inflight, however in 6 months an inflight menu with snacks, food and drinks available for purchase will be introduced. Alongside this restructuring process, TAROM is replacing and retiring old aircraft and for now they're not really investing money in the cabin refurbishments, as they're more keen on filling the planes right now. Their Boeing 737-800s come in 2 configurations: the one that you've flown on and the other one that I prefer, even though it offers a standard European business class with the blocked seat in the middle. From the economy perspective it's so much better and I hope you'll have a chance on flying on those planes. I recommend flying on the new ATR 72-600, as they're more comfortable and modern. Their MAX aircraft will be arriving next year as well, so we'll just have to wait and see what those will be like. Until then, have a great stay in Romania!

TAROM is in a restructuring process? What a cheap and stupid excuse! Ridiculous!!! Even being within a restructuring process its possible to clean the aircraft (6:11) and being friendly to passengers. After numerous business trips to RO I know romanians think their products are first rate - and in fact its really far below average standard!!! KLM offers juice and a sandwich on this leg - to much for a fourth world airline in a "restructuring" process! Service to clients is a word not known in RO! The only thing that really works in RO afaik know is corruption!

Around 2018 I flew with TAROM on a 4 hour flight on night-time. It was very good, meal was hot and complimentary and they even offered pillows! I think that may be the reason pof their bad economic situation, but I still miss it.

They have started serving food on board contra cost or you can book a full standard meal while booking.

I was excited to see the IFE, but then it wasn't activated. I guess Tarom got you from A to B, but very no-thrills like! Thanks for posting your experience, I don't think I'd fly with them.

Hello , I should leave for Bulgaria next month, and I am very confused about the Tarom aeroplane. I am reading many reviews that make me more anxious, and I can’t stop reading or watching videos about it. Is it a safe plane? I don’t mind if they get me food or not; I just need to know if it’s safe.

Tarom is not the best airline for sure but it is not the worst either. For sure, it's not Emirates nor Lufthansa, but if you compare it with most North american airliners, it's actually not bad at all.

I’m surprised that TAROM has the inflight entertainment screens on short haul flights as the only other European airline to do that is British Airways and Turkish Airlines. Inflight entertainment screens on non-long haul flights is more of a thing in North America and Asia.

Not the best of airlines but it has good prices and relatively new aircraft.. have been in much much worse aircraft from airlines from across the pond

I flew with Tarom this week The plane inside and out was utterly filthy. There was a large dead insect inside of the window, mould growing on the cabin lighting. The carpets were threadbare and every horizontal surface was dark grey with filth and grime, not to mention the dried food spattered over the cabin walls. There was no complementary anything and it was not a cheap flight from Amsterdam to Bucharest. I could feel the metal frame of the chair through what was left of the seat cushion. It was utterly disgusting. If a national airline displays this sort of neglect in the cabin and the outside of the plane, heaven only knows what is going on under the hood. NEVER again. Shame on you Romania!

I fly a LOT and immunste say that TAROM has the BEST European business class. Great seats, lots of space, food is ok, drinks as many as you want….what else do you need ???

Although the review is great, that Tarom plane isn't. It's stuck together with ducktape and it's dirty. If I would have been on that plane it would have been raining blood and they'd become skeletons of society.
