I was in Sri Lanka from February to mid April 2023. Don't just stay in Colombo go southwards to Hikkaduwa, Weligama and Galle..Enjoy! But dont use the train..its very congested unless you get a firstclass ticket which are scarcely available. Take the private bus which has AC.

get train on weekday from Colombo to down south. but avoid train after 3pm and 6am to 9am from galle to Colombo. trains are empty on weekdays(unless it is a holiday) from 9am to 3pm

Hi Kish, you confused that taxi driver sitting, with down town and down south. He said Rs 15k to go to Mirissa in down south, which is about 160km from airport 😅. Glad you didn't go there with him😂😂. He didn't try to scam you, poor guy with language limitation.

Just letting you know that the taxi driver told you the price to go 'downtown' which usually means the south of Sri Lanka, not Colombo. That's why it was 15000. Enjoyy!
