I love how Frida sings so choppy at the starts, it goes well with the synth 😄👍I remember listening to this on cassette for years until I had Souper Trouper on CD, I don't think I ever got the LP. and iirc Me and I was like the last song on side A, you'd flip the cassette over, and the first song on side B was Happy New Year. I don't know if it was because it was on cassette instead of LP, but Souper Trouper sounded different from earlier Abba albums, almost like impending sadness. when The Visitors came out, the transition from bubbly, fun, young love Abba to a more mature, serious, dour Abba was evident 😟

Another excellent track from "Super Trouper" led by Friday. Notice the "everyone's a freak" doesn't have the effect on it the last time around, perhaps just to clarify the lyric? In spite of it being so modern for the time (it sounded so futuristic & 'space age' to me back then) the structure is quite conventional, including the key change for the final chorus. Can't help anticipating the opening bars of "Happy New Year" at the end. I've heard that album in its original sequence so many times, perhaps because my dad bought it on tape cassette. Also another track that can be great to practice guitar shredding to.

Nice track. Like an angel passing through my room by this group on their final album is a masterpiece in melancholy, otherworldly, like someone in an apartment in the winter of their life seeing their life replayed in the 'dying embers' as it snows below. Love and loss, nobody does it better.
@Spiritof19552 жыл бұрын
I have to agree about the clarity of the vocals. I've heard this song many times, but it's the first time I've noticed Bjorn's backing vocal on the chorus. The strange electronic vocal at the end of the chorus makes use of a Vocoder. If you want to hear more use of a Vocoder I strongly recommend listening to ELO's The Diary Of Horice Wimp.

On Super Trouper they started to shift already away from the organic sounds and became more synths based and almost electronic. Lay All Your Love On Me, Me And I and the best examples.. and they played with voicedeoders or how it's called on both tracks.. the 1981 Dick Cabett live version is worth a listen. They lyrics are about having an "extreme" both sides character like fire and water at the same time. Good and evil, shy and outgoing all in all contracdictional.. First time Frida sings in that style. a bit pressed vocals and her shining velvet voice like Super Trouper... she extended that direction of playing with her voice on The Visitors even more and with her solo records. If you look at her catalogue from the 60's to 1996, she did almost everything with her voice possible.

@Payne2view2 жыл бұрын
@@Lisa-M WhatUp can say for themselves but if you don't mind me sticking my nose in, I think they were not saying the song inspired the predating outfits. I think it was just a reference to Frida's view of her vocal style inspiration, which predates this song, inspired the costume designer and is once again, years after, present in "Me and I".

@@Lisa-M Uwe took Frida's statement that she sometimes feels like a tiger and ran with it in his own way. The only connection between Uwe's creation and the song is that part of Frida's personality seems to come out in the way she delivers the lyrics...her vocals are fierce as a tiger in this song, and many others, as well. Damn! I was hoping you would do the trainwreck that is Two For The Price Of One from The Visitors. The one thing I liked less about Super Trouper was the overuse of synth sounds. Granted it was a period where Benny over indulged with every new whiz keyboard because it was the in thing of the time. It would have been nice and a lot more interesting to use more natural brass in this track instead of the fake synth sound. You never get tired of hearing original instruments but fake sounds like the keyboard here overstay their welcome when there is too much of it. There's too much of it here and it gets repetitive. This backing track soundscape has a similar sound to Sombrero.

I quite like the synth sounds on a number of tracks from this album - I guess it forms part of the soundscape for the album (in the same way the previous album was pure disco, and the one before had influences of the laidback California-sound). Though the intro to Elaine possibly takes the synth effects a bit far...

This is a catchy and simple pop song on Super Trouper the only one that anticipates 80s synthi pop; of course later the title track The Visitors, a masterpiece. After the media and the old-Mamma Mia-SOS fans critisme about Voulez Vous and the disco tracks (certainly incomprehensible for young people today) ABBA did a traditional POP-tunes album Super Trouper, thought long the best, but a liittle too musically traditional. At that time it was the best decision to win back fans, what the commercial sucess approved. Suggestion: for me one of two (of the 5 best albums in series) most terrible ABBA skip song LOVERS/of Voulez Vous. The modern production technic -- as Melissa said about Me And I - for me wasnt working; it's so over-produced that both ladies voices lost their magics, Disney-Dukes--like. A few fans will write "so funky" .....🤩 . Tastes are so different 😛. Fridas solo single Something Going On: genious modern produced/and wrote by Phil Collins; US hit, banger in Mid-Europa, not UK.

"Me and I" (1980) song included in the album Super Trouper performed live in the TV special Dick Cavett meets ABBA (1981) honestly, this is in my opinion the weakest song on the Super Trouper album, 5pts for me one of the very few ABBA songs where I don't like the vocal part as it turns out, with an inconvenient ending but I like the synth and part of the chorus That's why for me is ok, it's acceptable but nothing more, could be better abd ABBA have better songs in these album my next suggestion is "Tiger" (1976) from "Arrival" album or "Bang a Boomerang" (1975) from "ABBA" album both have nice official video I hope to see you in next ABBA vídeo my best regards to You from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
