I first heard this song in 1996 walking into a pub somewhere up North with an ex-forces friend on a Friday afternoon. Four days and one epic bender later I woke up back at home with a copy of their album on cassette tape, about two dozen large sausage rolls and absolutely no idea what had happened over the last 72 hours. Damn good song...

The lead singer is Brian Johnson. He was born in Dunston, County Durham, England. Even now, at age 74, he holds his own with anyone on Planet Earth, having recorded in 2020 a NEW album with AC/DC called Power Up. Angus Young is the lead guitarist, and considered among the best in the world, although Angus himself said his brother Malcolm (Rhythm player in the band. Wearing the darker blue shirt in this video) was a better guitarist. I saw them in Atlanta at the Omni, and they were beyond brilliant. The best show EVER.

Now you might understand why we old-school rockers who were around in the '70s think today's music SUCKS. We grew up being spoiled by world-class music like AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Bob Seger, Journey, Def Leppard, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Starship, Led Zepplin, Ozzie Osbourne, BeeGees, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, Don McLean, Kansas, Queen, Elton John, Styxx, Yes, Rush, Bad Company, Jethro Tull, Steely Dan, Foghat, Kiss... I could go on, but you get the idea. If we knew how bad music was going to suck today, we would have appreciated it more then.

Malcolm and Angus Young are part of Australian rock n roll royalty. Their older brother George was a member of the fabulous Easy Beats (1964-69). George together with other ex-Easy Beats member Harry Vander would go onto produce early ACDC songs when they started out in 1973. (George Young and Harry Vander are the subjects of Dire Straits hit, Sultans of Swing). It's said that Angus Young developed his "duck walk" from having to dodge bottles throw at him on stage in Australian pubs in the '70s. Their concert Live at The River Plate is a massive anthology of ACDC hits!

AC/DCs' Lead vocalist for this son is Bryan Johnson. I like to think he gargled hot asphalt as a kid to get that sound. (Not true ) but that spitting gravelly voice would explain it. Try "If you want blood, you got it" from the original vocalist 'Bon Scott You don't have to react. Just listen to the studio version. You'll see why Bryan Johnson filled his shoes after he died.

On July 13, 1979, the band came to the Netherlands for a performance in the Rijnhal in Arnhem, especially for Veronica's Countdown. Believe it or not, Brian Johnson's speaking voice is a baritone growl. One of the most iconic, 'trademark' sort of voices in Rock & Roll. And what can you say about Angus Young? A frickin' Jedi Master of Rock & Roll guitar. His brother Malcolm, God rest him, doesn't get nearly the credit he deserves for holding the whole thing together with the rhythm guitar work that was the reinforced concrete foundation of AC⚡DC's signature sound. My boys bring the heat every d__n time.

As a guitarist, I'll let you in on a little secret. It's much easier to play that dittie with one hand. If you know how to hammer and pull off, it saves you from having to try and pick it. What's the most amazing about that bit is that most guitarist would find it very taxing to do that for as long as he did at 134 BPM without your fingers cramping and crapping out on you. Angus' fingers are the equivalent of a marathon runners legs. He's easily one of the greatest. You ought to give Danny Garton a listen. Many guitarists have publicly said he was the best but he's little known. He suffered a stroke and committed suicide, sadly. He is touted as having the fastest fingering of them all.
