You’re more on the money than you even realize. Jim Steinman wrote and composed the song, and he also wrote and composed songs for Meat Loaf, including the entire “Bat Out Of Hell” album, so it’s not just a coincidence you were reminded of Meat Loaf.

And just to add to Steinman's list, he also wrote a song or two for Bonnie Tyler, one of which was 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'.

Air Supply is an Australian-English soft rock duo group who were big in the 80's. They had a lot of great songs such as "Lost In Love", "All Out Of Love", "Every Woman In The World", "Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You)", "Sweet Dreams", "I'll Never Get Enough Of You", "Even The Nights Are Better", "Young Love", "Two Less Lonely People In The World", "Just As I Am" etc.

my daughters favorite song as a 2 year old. She would sing this along with the radio in the car. Hysterical hearing "making love" coming out of a toddler. Needless to say I took her to see them in concert for her first concert at Merriweather Post Pavillon and as it was their encore song she had fallen asleep on my shoulder. There was no waking her up as she sleeps like her mama. Still great memories and love their music.

I saw them in concert last year in the Dominican Republic (6/22/2023 in Santo Domingo) and loved it! They were funny, charming, gracious, and Russell can incredibly still hit those high notes. I was amazed and had a great time singing along with so many hit songs. Rabbit hole please!!

May 12, 2025, will be 50 years ago that they met! I've loved them since 1980! they made a video in Hawaii in the early 80s (1981). I had that VHS video playing while in labor in 1992! I told Russell Hitchcock in 1994! I have been dubbed Labor Room Linda! if you listen to interviews they do, a lot of times Russell mentions it! I am humbled that he remembers!! welcome to the wonderful world of Air Supply!!

Great thinking about Meatloaf! I would have never put that together even though I listened to both bands when they were huge.

I do believe Meatloaf actually recorded this as well. Jim Steinman wrote the song. He was a major composer for Meatloaf. At the time this came out, Barry Manilow, Bonnie Tyler, and Barbra Streisand all recorded Jim Steinman songs that charted.

I was a teen/ early 20s when they were big. Didn't really get into them at the time but kept their music in the car for dates. Guaranteed panty droppers.

And yet Bonnie Tyler can sound like an absolute badass singing songs from the same writer. 😅 I think that says something. She probably thought this song was too girly, though it would have sounded tougher in her voice.

JIM STIENMAN WROTE ALL OF THE BAT OUT OF HELL ALBUM WHICH HAD ALL HIS HUGE HITS FOR MEAT LOAF . STIENMAN WITH MEAT LOAF WROTE THE NEXT 4 ALBUMS ... THIS IS WHY IT SOUNDS LIKE A MEAT LOAF SONG... ITS THE SAME WRITER.. THIS WOULDN'T HAVE REALLY FIT WITH MEAT LOAFS STYLE... TBIS IS WAY TO POPPY AND NO EDGE.... YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND MUCH WITH THE ENTIRE ROCK GENRE , YOU JUST DON'T GET IT LMAO.....HAD MEAT DONE IT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE ROCKIN WITH AN EDGE.... THE ARRANGEMENT IF MEAT WOULD HAVE DONE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE DIFFERENT ... STEINMAN ALSO PLAYEDKEYBOARDS IN MEAT LOAFS BAND , HE IS SEEN IN THE EARLY VIDEO'S...

Don't you think each group/singer makes a song their own and style? All remakes of classic songs hits first by another artist or writer. Is with their own style and slant onto it. Some writers also write for a group taking into consideration that singers style and other songs. Those of us who know this song from way-back. Really, would not think of Meatloaf doing this song. I only realized the writer far more recently. Steinman also wrote the hit song for Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart. Sure you can tell Steinman's style, yet Clearly, that song probably not quite Meatloaf's style even if written with him in mind by you. Blame Steinman if he offered it to Meatloaf and he said no for whatever reasons at the time. Another took it and History is the way it was to be. Dolly Parton's - I Will Always Love You. Redone by Whitney Houston is her own way. Same words. New Country had Beyonce' do Dolly's Jolene over. Some were critical of the change of words much more with anger etc. Still Dolly did not say she hated it. I am not a fan of new Country especially all autotuned now and hip hop and rappy. To each their own and generation their own choices.....
