I really like what she did with this song at 8 on NGT, but this one at 10 was even better IMO. The slower pace and slightly less vibrato, makes it so smooth and relaxing to listen to. I also really liked how soft the orchestra was in this one. Eventually, you are going to hear some of the stuff she did with the Norwegian Army Orchestra (actual name unpronounceable)... that band is a little more "in your face" than this one, but she did some really incredible stuff with them as well.... they are the band that she worked with for her 2018 album "it's magic" (which still charts on the iTunes top Jazz albums in the world). One that I recommend with them is "It's a Mans World" (she kills it)..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnbQaKd9p898gc0

Your comments to this performance, I just nodded my head at every word. Even if I might disagree slightly regarding the single guitar accompaniment; I think you can get the same thing with a piano. And I can't help myself from thinking she looks like a wedding cake in that dress, all in a good way - as a wedding cake is _la créme de la créme_ among all other cakes, Angelina's voice is the same among other vocalists, and her dress is to die for.

I just watched Angelina’s cover of How Great Thou Art for the first time a few days ago accompanied by a single acoustic guitar and both she and the guitarist were brilliant. This comment is coming from someone who gave up on Christian music decades ago.

Thanks, I actually hadn't seen this particular video. She performed this song in the Norway's Got Talent competition as well. It was very similar, but she slowed it down a bit here. I really like the bit when she goes up for "your daddy's rich" and then the finish. The orchestra was great. There are a couple of videos where she sings with a military band and there she's a bit drowned out by the instruments. In this one the balance is perfect.

She IS always a joy to listen to! You are right there. This was a great version. You don't need to react to it, but if you haven't checked out her NGT version of Summertime, you should do that for fun. She is stunning in both. Her tribute to Aretha ,You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman is subdued with an end blackout for respect. Her California Dreamin is a new arrangement that changes the feeling of the song. I'd Rather Go Blind is like time travel back 6 decades (close your eyes). Someone You Loved, the last AGT song on stage with a sand artist and violinist is beautifully performed (although you might have to close your eyes to avoid the distracting visual trap of the sand artist to fully appreciate Angelina). On and on it goes. Do what you like, I will like it. I like your style.

Thank you! You are so right: Angelina Jordan sings in a way that honours the song and the musical period it is from. With her, the music is always at the center. But for us who listen and see, it is impossible not to notice the artist and her artistry... For me, Angelina performing an obviously very well rehearsed piece in front of a live audience is pure bliss. It is also pure perfection, in a way that some of her home recordings are not - and are certainly not meant to be. Most artists of Angelina Jordan’s calibre (or the few there are!) are very careful in protecting their image, and thus in what they release. With Angelina, we get rehersals, recordings with karaoke tracks, covers, tributes, home sessions with brilliant musicians, some very vulnerable moments and sometimes snippets of just fooling around. In that way, we get to see some of the hard work and luckily FUN that lies behind her brilliance, and also get to know the person behind the artist a little better. I am so glad she allows all of that to be shared, and equally happy that she and her family seem to have been able to maintain privacy at the same time.

In a previous reaction you were wondering if there were any interviews with her that might give you an insight. This one on TV2 is excellent. They switch to English at 0:38. She sings a line from "Diamonds Are Forever", no key tone, just perfect pitch. I've wondered about the pitch thing. In her performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody" on AGT the Champions she starts off acapella and lands right on pitch. There's basically two possibilities there, she might have got a pitch cue in her in ear monitor before she started, or else she has perfect pitch. I lean towards the latter because I think I've seen some other earlier performance where she did the same and clearly didn't have an earpiece.

Yes, she did the "Big Band" performance beautifully (and she looked absolutely angelic in that outfit) but, like you, I still prefer when she sings with just a solo guitar or piano. The songs she sang with just Ivan Mendez on guitar, completely impromptu, with little to no rehearsal, zero recording studio enhancements - no special acoustics, no sound engineers, no autotune, no multiple takes and extensive mixing, etc. - were some of the best performances she's ever done, and did the most to highlight her spectacularly beautiful voice and incomparably masterful vocal artistry.

I believe she's playing for the home folks here, with some professional Norwegian musicians. And as usual, she's more that up for the challenge. At the end, not only does the small crowd clap for her, but the entire orchestra does as well. She's about 10 and half years old and her voice has matured. No matter how formal the occasion, she's still barefooted. Gotta love that about her. Thanks for another great reaction to vakker barfot prinsessen. 😊💕

No matter the venue: A promise is a promise. Not sure Whether you are aware or not... She made a promise to herself at the age of about 6 years old, when an orphaned / homeless little Asian or Middle Eastern girl touched her heart! She saw her on the street trying to earn some money from passers by - Weighing people with an ordinary bathroom scale. This homeless girl had no shoes and when Angelina saw this, Angelina gave the little girl her own shoes. And then promised that she would not wear shoes ever again while performing for an audience, until all children have shoes on their feet.

Great reaction once again! I love it when you watch Angelina perform and then do your reaction of it. You really capture some of the things that she does so well and with such ease. Angelina is such a joy to listen to and watch, even in an oldie that is somewhat quiet and mellow. She just puts “there” in the moment. You will be one of the people that will be able to say that you saw her before she became a superstar. Your next should be with another live performance with a military orchestra/band at a festival. This time it is bigger and has some impressive belting included. Her jazz talent is fully present here. “A Man’s World” is one of my many favorites from Angelina.

Beautiful choice for a wonderful reaction, Adam. Every version of Summertime that Angelina has made has a different flavor, but they are always incredible. Here I think she herself asked the orchestra to slow down the music and she applies modulations and bass tones differently. She has some body attitudes that normally does not use in other versions and her voice is also very clear because the instruments of the orchestra remain in the background and are absolutely not invasive. This is also the song with which he won the NGT edition in 2014.

In addition to her beautiful voice, one has to admire her actual technical knowledge of music, timing, and her ability to work in conjunction with an orchestra. Her professional knowledge about voice placement also is far beyond her years. We often hear critics say how effortless her performances seem, but that is simply a professional singer making a successful effort to make it look effortless. What's done as well as she does it actually is very difficult.

Angelina is one of the most addictive singers I have ever listened to, & one of the very few, that can pull you right into the song, making you feel, every word, every note, & every emotion. ❤️💙 I always have this feeling that Angelina is not only channeling some of these late great singers, but that they also pass through her, when she is singing their song ❤️💙 A rare beauty, in every sense of the word ❤️💙 Loved your reaction!!!

Hi Adam, That was a great & spot on reaction & a nice review. If you watch her sing "Summer time" on NGT when she's 8 you'll see it has minimal instruments I think it's a back track with a live trumpet. & she has a little different approach to the song. Also I left you a couple of links.( most will be small amout of instruments) “I who have nothing” she was 6 yrs old By Tom Jones kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJu0i354pbuUm9U in studio in sound booth at her school. "Summertime" By George Gershwin kzbin.info/www/bejne/amWWoXWJpd1oeJY NGT she 8 “What a difference a days makes” Dinah Washington kzbin.info/www/bejne/kITJmHZ_fMlqoZY she’s 8 “I’ll be there” by the Jackson 5 (she was sick here & it didn’t stop her.) She’s 8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKeck3uch9ylfc0 “At Last” cover by Etta James kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmKck4RvfpKHY8k she’s 8+ a live performance

As much as I love Angelina's performance of Summertime on Norway's got talent, this remains my favorite performance of hers of this song. Though I do agree with her, just Angelina and a guitar (or Piano) is my favorite.

Thanks for another great reaction and analysis, Adam. You have a really great way with words. I too love to here her voice alone with a guitar or piano. But I don’t know if it’s really a preference because I absolutely adore a performance with an orchestra like this one, a big band like the BBC Prom at the 02 in London, 2016, or a small jazz ensemble like her performance of Cry Me a River (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp64cmp_matsiKc) or the amazing Norway Public Radio group that that accompanied her on I Put a Spell on You and (I think) Back to Black. Her voice suits them all and with her core interest in Jazz she’s going to need bands behind her. On the other hand, One of my all-time favourites is her solo (piano accompaniment by her) arrangement of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3qkfnlqe6mZrZY ). I think you will REALLY like that one. It is nothing short of shockingly stunning. I just love Angelina’s ability to be so incredibly versatile and true to the song, original artist, genre and era while always being Angelina Jordan. In the final analysis, I think the thing about Angelina Jordan’s vocal performances the ties everything great about her together is the fact that she puts every ounce of who she is as a vocalist into every sound, every note that falls from her lips. The camera work from 1:45 to 2:10 (your video) really illustrates that, especially the bit after the French horn player and “...you daddy’s rich...” where she briefly reconnects with reality before losing herself completely in the song again (in exactly the way you described). And speaking of the french horn player, I think I might be in love with her. 😂

I might disagree with you on that point, but it's all a matter of taste. For me it's the whole package, as Adam said, with the orchestra an everything ... even the way the footage is presented from this TV broadcast, it all adds up to make it my favorite.

Adam, you may be a person who can help me find some kind of answer to something that I have been trying to understand for around a year now, since I accidentally found Angelina in fact. I am 65 and have listened to music most of my life and really enjoyed it. Then I discover AJ, who doesn't even sing a genre of music that I have heretofore listened to, and I find myself drawn to her almost to the point of obsession. From what I have read I am not alone in this. Do you have even a scrap of an idea how she can have this effect on apparently thousands of people from all around the world? When I listen to her sing it's, for me, like listening to Carlos Santana play a wonderful guitar solo except the FEELING is multiplied by a factor of ten. I have listened to the other supposedly great vocalists that populate the web, and while they no doubt have remarkable abilities, I either appreciate them as I have always appreciated music or at worst I feel absolutely nothing. This despite MANY people claiming that they, and one in particular who you can probably guess, are wonderful and that they stir such emotion that they are the best in the world. Do you have any understanding of how individuals can hear a singer and, after close to a full lifetime, suddenly find a person who can effect them in this way. I almost feel like an addict asking for help, a very pleasant addiction to be sure, but nonetheless troubling on a certain level. Thank you in advance for ANY scrap of a thought you may have.❤❤❤❤👣
