The white dude rapping is Scott Ian, one of the guitar players for Anthrax. Before they did this collaboration Anthrax did their own (goofy) rap/metal song called "I'm The Man." They were from NY where a lot of early rap acts were coming up. Even though they were a metal band they still appreciated the rap scene and supported them.

I rocked this as a kid! 🤘 What's messed up is that we were more united in the 80's than we are now... to my recollection as a kid. We loved all music and when they combined!... we'd wild out! Feed Love! Starve hate. 🤘

I think the average person is more connected to every race, sexuality or whatever than eve before. I grew up in the 80's and in some ways jealous of the youth now. The difference is through social media the extreme people from both sides have the biggest megaphone ever and they use it. embrace your neighbor no matter who or what they are.

This was a groundbreaking collaboration at the time because both groups were respected in their own circles, and both circles were very different. So for them to come together for this blew a lot of peoples minds. This was really only the second major rock/rap collab between two groups. The first one being Aerosmith and Run-DMC

Yeah, Aerosmith and Run DMC should be the first chapter in the rap/rock fusion story of this era, then comes this collaboration, and then you cap it off with the Judgment Night soundtrack, which was basically this type of song done semi-successfully by some bands that were good, and some that were not. "Just Another Victim" is one of the good tracks. Both bands were huge at the time.

Anthrax is "a serious infectious disease caused by gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria known as Bacillus anthracis," or in this case an 80's thrash metal band. There was a number of Rap/Rock in the mid to late 80's, artists just coming together to make music and tear down boundaries. Rap is considered a branch of Rock, thus inclusion in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Check out Run DMC Walk this Way for another Rap/Rock treat.

Beastie Boys are compulsory. Dig in. House of Pain's "Jump around" is iconic. A "newer" amazing white rap group: Die Antwoord. On the flipside is a super influential black rock / punk group from late 70s and early 80s called Bad Brains (listen to "Sailing On" and THEN look at a picture of the band- will blow your mind. Ha.) They aren't super famous or well known, but they inspired a generation of 80s and 90s alt / punk rockers- the Beastie Boys even thank them (among others) in their 2012 rock n roll hall of fame acceptance speech.

That's Chuck D, one of the best rappers ever. Anthrax is skater thrash. Skater thrash is a subgenre of metal, punk, and funk focused on surf/skate culture. Suicidal Tendencies is another example of it. Red Hot Chili Peppers was another example early in their career.
@smiling_chaos
@smiling_chaos 11 ай бұрын
No. Just no. Anthrax is pure thrash metal. Literally one of the big four. They have f-all to do with skateboarding “culture”. They are from NYC ffs!! 🙄 Skater metal isn’t even a genre. Suicidal was skate PUNK - thrash metal crossed with hardcore punk. Like DRI or COC. Hardcore punk is what was originally associated with skateboarding in the 80’s. That evolved in to 90’s era Skate punk because of bands like Bad Religion who started the SoCal melodic hardcore scene. Basically, the bands that played the warped tours. Which in turn spawned the pop punk genre…. The Chili Peppers don’t even belong in the conversation. They have always been a funk rock band. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@@WordAte oh dear. It seems you don’t even know what the word parody means. Just like you don’t understand what the word culture means. That explains your completely ridiculous out of touch original comment. It seems your ego far exceeds your intellect. Good luck with that.
@smiling_chaos
@smiling_chaos 11 ай бұрын
@@WordAtethe entire thrash metal genre was influenced by hardcore punk. Its name basically came from Thrasher magazine. They all skated and had skateboards, etc. And all but Anthrax were from the West Coast - where the skate/surf “culture” originated. Music is only a small part of that culture, If anything, Anthrax was being influenced by, and took part in, the burgeoning scene. Nothing in their music “focused on” skate or surf culture. Would you call the entire thrash metal genre part of skateboard culture? Did only skaters listen to thrash?
@WordAte
@WordAte 11 ай бұрын
@@smiling_chaos Skateboard culture was in NYC when Anthrax formed in the 80s. Bands are considered to be in different genres all the time. It is ok to move on with your life. Hahaha. If it helps, I think you are well-informed on Anthrax and Thrash Metal. Even more so than me. So move on.

Public Enemy says "Who the fuck is Anthrax"? He'll No you can't cover our songs. 4.Anthrax sent them the Demo tape and Public Enemy Loved it soooo much. 5. They loved it soooo much they said you 100% can't cover our song....unless we record this song TOGETHER!!! 6.This, made Anthrax even happier than covering the song by themselves. 7. The rest is history.

You’re all up in my 8th grade music tonight. I’m going off memory so I’m not positive but Anthrax may have been the first metal band ever to experiment with rap. They have a full on metal rap hybrid song “I’m the Man”. Then Aerosmith did “Walk This Way” with Run DMC. Vanilla Ice actually dropped a rap called “Boom” in the 90s with Bloodhound Gang under his real name, Rob Van Winkle, that never got any play but it’s one of my top 10 fave songs of all time and it still bangs. Highly recommend that one. Best line: “Sneakin up like celery, yeah I’m stalkin”
