Flavor Flav is the greatest hype man in music history and that's what his job and everything Chuck D was talking about meant something in 1989. This is one of the greatest songs ever
@derrickgreen8877 Жыл бұрын
Public Enemy is not a party group. They drop messages. Flavor Flav was basically the comedian. He took some of the edge off. He was a hype man. Get the crowd motivated. The song was made for the Spike Lee movie "Do The Right Thing." Plus there is a young lady in this video named Tawanna Brawley who a few yrs earlier was attacked by upstate NY cops. You would have to know who she is to appreciate her appearance in this video. It was very powerful to us at that time. Still is.

from the title of the song alone, I didn’t get “party group” from them, I understood & enjoyed the message shared in this song, I just didn’t care for his style of rap but I do appreciate the background & history of the song from you 🫱🏽🫲🏾

This is almost like watching an MLK speech and saying I don't get it This was the late '80s, when black people were still fighting against major injustices and the only music you heard from them was happy and cheerful. Groups like Public Enemy came along and said, "Fuck all that" White America definitely wasn't ready for this, and having Flavor Flav there was part of their genius. He could be there and dance away while Chuck D (the other guy), could spit some raw facts down America's throat. If Flav had not been there, songs and videos like this would not have received the exposure they got.

I understand the message & I also said that the message was one of the things that I liked about the song, I just didn’t necessarily care for his style of rapping, thank you for your insight though, very appreciative to gain more than one perspective 🫱🏽🫲🏾

Lol you guys are hilarious when it comes to one’s opinion that doesn’t align with you own, but on a serious note.. if you pay as much attention to the things that have been said pertaining to my taste in music as you did to what was said in this particular video, you would know that I’m not a big fan of a lot of today’s music, ESPECIALLY not that stunt that nas x pulled. Is some of the music of today catchy? Sure, but give me some old school hip hop or r&b & you got me & when I do tune in to anything modern 9/10 it’s J Cole, Joyner Lucas, Kendrick, etc. Never took away from or misunderstood the message, just didn’t like the flow, didn’t know that was a crime 😄

What really made this song was the message. The beat was dope. Plus, the crowd which wasnt suppose to be part of the video brought people out and made it like a live concert, which hyped it up even more. Alot of people didn't know this about the song. It all just callabed at the right time

brotha 😂.. the problem with your generation is that ya’ll don’t LISTEN, especially coming from someone younger than you, quick to pick out what you want to hear & not the whole story. I’ve stated multiple times (not just in this video) that a song that has a message or story is something that I respect & love. PE is one of the first truth spitting groups, agree or not they speak for many. Try the studio version or "Don't believe the hype" they did a rock cross over try "Bring the noise" with Anthrax (its how they got us white boy metal heads into rap in the late 80s)....PE is an acquired taste mostly Black Panther supporters, but this white guy can understand the message just fine. For me it was Ice T, Timdog and NWA.
@vibeswithkay8724 Жыл бұрын
no doubt that they were spitting some truth & the message was very well understood, I can’t take that away from them. I guess just to turn it on & jam it would be a no for me
@dmw190611 ай бұрын
First, you are allowed to like what you like. But, you have to understand what PE was about. They were "Public Enemy" because they were delivering a message of Black empowerment at a time when few were AND in a genre that hadn't yet grown. It was helps risky. Chuck D, the rapper, has a unique and simple flow because he wanted to be heard over the bombastic sounds of the records. (He has one of the best voices in Hip Hop history.) He was also an admirer of jazz, so his timing is somewhat like that of jazz...on, off, or around the beat. Flav was there to cut the tension a bit, but he is quietly a musical prodigy. Crazy as it sounds, they were crucial in Hip Hop crossing over...even with that message. Like what you like,I'm just giving some background.
@vibeswithkay872411 ай бұрын
I just wanna say that you are the first person to actually educate me on the background & history of the artist(s), video, etc without trynna bash my head in or criticize me for liking what I like 😂 which again, was strictly based on the flow & not the message but this was very informative & helped me gain a better perspective of the artist & what was going on in the video.

How you not gonna like Public Enemy Fight The Power when you on the thumbnail looking just like Spike Lee?? 😂. (This song is the opening for his movie Do The Right Thing) But on the real tho. I respect you giving your honest opinion and not capping but to most of us Gen Xers it’s just a straight up massive shock to our systems to see a young African American fan of hip hop totally not get and understand anything about Public Enemy and Fight the Power the struggle we were going through at the time and how Public Enemy was the symbol of our movement, the style, none of that. I think the reason so many are coming for you is because of this shock. It’s crazy to have to realize that this generation are just totally totally totally out of sync with us. We just in shock. That’s all I can say. Please forgive us. Lol

You'd probably hear a better mix listening to the song from the album as opposed to the video version. It sounds the way it does in the video version on purpose cuz it's supposed to be like rapping/ preaching at a protest to the people.

@vibeswithkay872411 ай бұрын
I do agree with you that kids & life these days are indeed shallow, however, I also believe that people of an older generation are quick to give an opinion & slow to listen or be open to another, especially the opinion of someone younger than them. Maybe a little slow to listen as well because I did in fact say that I enjoyed the message, also, if you’ve watched any of my other videos, I’ve stated numerous times that I lean towards artists such as J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Joyner Lucas, people with a story, I also mentioned my love for the message in this video as well soooo yeah but preciate the comment luv. 🫱🏽🫲🏾

DAMN. People really got sensitive about your reaction. Lol. You don't have to like the song. I have a love hate relationship with it. I love the beat. I love the empowerment. But, the joke Flavor Flav later became, I can see how someone your generation can't take it serious. Also, the line about Elvis is a racist is bullshit. There's no evidence. He was raised in the hood and had black gospels. Public Enemy later said they did it for the shock which to me cheapens the message.
