i saw her say in a interview its a really sad love story from the victims perspective, but she has also said that songs may change meaning as she is growing older and gain experience, one theory i like about the song which i find fitting with what she stands for is that the woman is mother earth and the man with the gun represents the human race so thats the theory that stuck with me =)

I don't think that holds up. In the song he's unwillingly killing her for mercy...mankind are killing the planet for greed, and not against our will.

The male singer is Odd Martin Skålnes. He's an artist in his own right, and has also been a producer on her albums. On Auroras first album she disagreed with her manager Geir Luedy about using the song "Conqueror." Afterwards she expressed her feelings this way: " If I have to release music I'm not satisfied with again, I'll quit." She has her own creative vision, and will not let it be compromised. I've already given you my favourite songs on another of your Aurora reactions, so I won't repeat myself. I don't know what inspired this song, but I get the same vibe that I got from Nick Cave's duet with Kylie Minogue on " Where the wild roses grow ."
@StewNWT
@StewNWT 2 жыл бұрын
what was the disagreement do you know? Was she in favour of using the song as a single or against it? I'm thinking against it as i've always felt it's one of her weaker songs that is kind of a nothing burger compared to the rest of her work
@Abbadonhades
@Abbadonhades 2 жыл бұрын
@@StewNWT I think "Conqueror" was the choice of the record company, that they may have felt had the strongest commercial appeal. I would speculate that Aurora herself wanted to include other material, but was denied by the record company. The documentary "Once Aurora" shows that she has some intense negative feelings connected to "Conqueror", hoping to avoid performing it at all.
@StewNWT
@StewNWT 2 жыл бұрын
@@Abbadonhades Thanks for the info. I'll have to check out what her reasons were for those negative feelings. I just always felt it was by far one of her weakest and least interesting songs, so glad I was right to dislike it
@Abbadonhades
@Abbadonhades 2 жыл бұрын
@@StewNWT That being said, I think she has sort of come to terms with "conqueror" recently, and agreed to sing it again. My impression is that Aurora didn't have creative control on her first album, and this song became a symbol of that. Now, after several albums under her complete supervision, and with her as the decisionmaker, the song probably no longer hold the same negative connotations.

I am always waiting for any flinch in eyes, mouth, whatever in a reaction to this video, after the explosion of her vocals and emotions, when she shakes her head, eyes closed, backing away a little from the mic. Because this little gesture just hits my heart with how deep she was in her song so that she needed to shake it of just a little to come back enough to perform the rest.

The moment that this song was written about encapsulates so much pain. And yet she was willing to go there 100% for the art. Because she saw the romance of the love it would take to commit such an act. What a beautiful human being! Too bad she is like 1 in 10,000. For an explanation of the rest of us, Watch video of the song "Right in Two" by the band TOOL.

The guitar player is Odd Martin, he started to play with Aurora at the beginning of her career until 2017 or 2018, then he had to return to some of his own musical projects and projects with other Norwegian Artists but he still is part of the musician's family that is around Aurora. There is a video made by the same Norwegian TV Chanel that filmed the HAIK concert, where he plays guitar on the last song of Aurora "Exist for Love". this vid is from 2020. IMO AURORA is embodying and eminating sound. She's taking sound miles ahead of other singer/songwriters, because of her quality lyrics, but most of all her ability to portrait the songs in ways that captivates and almost hypnotizes the audience. Addition to Tom's Bredesens story about the background for this song. She's said Murder Song is a sad sad lovesong, and it was written after reading the novel "Murder Song" by Australian author Jon Cleary, which is a story about a homocide detective in Sydney. The guy on guitar, is O. Martin Skålnes, he was part of her team/band up, and has co written and co produced with AURORA. He split w the band in mid 2016 to do solo projects, but still is in on her productions now and then.

Two songs i think you might like, based on this video. Tori Amos- me and a gun (montreux '92). It's a acappella song about Tori's reallife experience getting raped, where she needs only here voice to keep the audience silenced and captivated. You can feel the urgency. Tori just hád to write that song. Second song is Sia- Breathe me (kcrw 2007), a song which Sia wrote when she was at her lowest, and contemplated suicide. It's certainly not the poppy Sia whe know today, but the song's got so much emotion. It's where Sia turn hurt and pain into something beautiful and magical. So yeah, both songs might be a bit more ... "heavy", i suppose. But they are absolutely worth a listen! (and maybe a reaction video from you!) 😉
