So, I promised to write something when you came to this one. Teardrop was actually the first Aurora song I heard. I encountered it randomly a few years ago in youtube suggestions. And then one day, for no reason at all, I watched it. And I really liked it. But I misjudged her age completely and thought she was 15. I also didn't know she made her own music, so I didn't think to look more into her. Just another voice on youtube doing covers. After that day I often saw her in other recommendations, but didn't pay it more attention. But as time went, she started to seem inevitable to me. Like I just knew that one day I would return to her be blown away. And sure enough, about a year ago I finally went back to her and started to explore her other songs. Needless to tell you, I fell down the rabbit hole and have been listening to her daily since then. So that's my origin story :)
@Deeraise4 жыл бұрын
This is also the first song I'd heard from her after a friend shared this with me about a year ago, knowing I loved downtempo. Been hooked on AURORA ever since. She's so good, and this song is a great intro to her.

Her musicians are so good at harmonizing with her. What a team she and her band are. I'm constantly struck by how she has no formal musical training at all. I suppose it's all down to her powers of observation and, as you say, raw talent. Talent that we see she is constantly refining and making ever more powerful. Another fantastic reaction. I always learn something from your reactions.

I've noticed a very typical vocal technique of Aurora that she does quite often. You can pick it in this song at 4:22 and 5:09 for the top-volume notes when she got e few more centimeters distance to the microphone and opens her mouth very wide, she gives her voice a kind of hall-effect, that is a very distinctive sound she brings in many of her songs (if not in almost all of them). I know many vocalists do that, but together with her voice-tone it's so gorgeous.

I will literally go insane if she ever covers Portishead. Stark raving mad. Also, check out her cover of La La La (the version on German TV in Berlin I think) and a freaking GREAT adorably awkward and priceless version of John Farnham's "You're The Voice". Both just her and O'Martin on guitar and backup vocals. The latter is so precious.

That was the first ever song I heard from Aurora. Really liked Massive Attack and Hooverphonic back then, probably that's why it got recommended to me. I remember that I found her a bit weird, but also very intriguing. From there on I explored her music, starting with her covers, since I think that's how you get a feel for a new artist and their style. She always surprised me with her interpretations, so much beauty and innocence in them. That's why I love watching reaction videos now, to relive those first impressions and emotions. I really like your reactions, since you are so genuine. Keep it up~

Hi Adam, great cover by Aurora! You said in reaction not particular fan of the original, but I want to say (since nobody has mentioned it in reactions) Elizabeth Fraser is such a wonderfull and iconic voice as well. True artist from Schotland, my favourite song ever is Song of the Sirens, cover by Tim Buckley on album This Mortal Coil from the 1986 or so..Had the pleasure to see Cocteau Twins the band with Elizabeth Fraser few times live in concert , probably not everyone's taste but wonderfull

This was the first song I heard from Aurora. A friend shared it with me, and I was stunned at her vocals and how well she was able to capture the song. I tend to sit in bubbles of familiarity with my music, and didn't seek her out any more at the time. Later, the same friend shared "Queendom (Harp Version)" - more amazing vocals, and this time I was intrigued by the album art, too... and finally fell down the rabbit hole. I still love Aurora's "Teardrop" cover, and looking back I think she's a bit shy in this interview. I'm looking forward to the next video you hinted at - that is maybe my favorite of Aurora's covers (next to "Nature Boy"). "Queendom (Harp Version)": kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3PNf3iOabmta7s

To sing like that with the added distraction of playing the piano ... I know a lot of people do it, but Aurora usually leaves it one of her band. So it would be a distraction. She said in an interview that she taught herself on her sisters piano that was a bit defective and you had to hold the power button down, so she originally learnt to play one handed... mind you she also said she styled her own hair with a Pizza cutter, which kind of points to her sense of humour. Definitely a sharp witted intelligent person. I pity any media types who try and out kid her in an interview.

Iconic songs often have cult followings vigilantly guarding the original version like a treasure. I personally love this version, and I'm very happy that you do to. I know this is probably a strange thing to say, but sometimes when Aurora hits those high notes, she sort of reminds me of the women who traditionally takes care of cows out on pasture . I think they're called milkmaids or something along those lines. Anyway there's a tradition for certain high note sounds they use to call the cows home, and Aurora sometimes sounds a bit like that. I love her voice, so I hope noone takes this as an insult, because it's not meant to be. There's a close relationship between those calling sounds/notes and certain parts of traditional norwegian folk music i think.
