How can she rip you open and heal you at the same time?! She seems like she is as fragile as finely spun glass and as strong a high carbon steel. Her art is so intense it almost can't be bourne. It's like she's a siren here to allow/make us feel what a gift life/experience is. It sears your soul, but you cannot look away. Unbelievable!

In my opinion, Aurora has no current peer when it comes to songwriting. Her lyrics are consistently brilliant and appeal to the intellect as well as the heart. This song is particularly poignant and beautiful. Beyond her extraordinary musical gifts, I love Aurora because she is such a beautiful and caring human being.

@@rockape1954 Phil - I should have also said that even when I didn't know what the lyrics were referring to or what her intent was, I still found they fit the song beautifully - they somehow just seemed right at that moment. Maybe that sounds nonsensical, but if so, oh well. I view Aurora and Angelina Jordan as my distant granddaughters and they both can bring forth feelings I never knew I had, or at least had not felt in years. They both make an old man very happy through there music and for the their decency as fellow travelers on the planet. Take care. Cheers.

Oh man... I've been crying and processing this for a few minutes, I recently discovered this song and all the meaning behind it after listening to it a few times I reached out to you and found your reaction, sincerely I feel that you genuinely like her and understand with empathy it's not just a random person's reaction to random song, you really like it and that makes all the difference, your closing thoughts are proof of that. How is it possible... How is it possible for someone to translate feelings into letters that way, of course I don't know what she went through with that loss as you said it's personal for each person but, even so... I could feel it. Every time I keep surprising myself with this magnificent artist.

I have to say, Adam, you are one of the few "reactors" I've seen who does justice to beautiful music like this. You're insightful, honest, and apparently as emotionally open as I am to music. You're a delight, and you deserve all the success you've enjoyed in the last few months! Much love.

Even more touching when you consider she wrote this when she was just 16/17 years old, an old soul with wisdom far beyond her years. As far as I know Aurora has never spoken about this song publicly but she is supposed to have said this to her friend's family following the funeral.... "It's important for the song to cry. That it is reminiscent of grief while it can relieve a little. This song is {NAME REMOVED}'s song. And it always will be. I only had her in mind when I sang it in, thinking that a small part of her is in it if you listen extra well.". She never wanted this song to be made public, but I think that she would now be happy that everyone who has heard it will also carry a part of her friend in their heart as well. I know I do.

This was the 3rd Aurora song I ever heard way back when. Made me think of my mother who died years before in 2009. So, I, a 46 year old man, just sat on my couch and cried for 30 minutes and listened to it over and over. It still makes me so sad but also makes me think of my wonderful mom. Props for not interrupting this emotional masterpiece.

At 49, I have heard this many times - and I can hardly write right now from lack of eyesight due to tears blurring everything. It is like she invites us to her space. She tells us she knows loss. She does not claim to grieve for us, She does not claim to know what we all went through in grief - but we can drop in and hang out with her now and then - having her sing for us without pretending to "understand". In loss, the most irritating people are those who tell us that they understand us and how we feel (or how we are supposed to feel). Aurora, never too specific, just wrote this psalm (I call it that despite being an atheist). With all the space included to let our own personal emotions flow into - instead of having a message that we are supposed to soak up and learn from.

My understanding is that she sang it at her friends funeral. I can't comprehend how hard that must have been. I spoke at my father's funeral and for a friend of mine at his son's funeral and it was the hardest thing I have ever done. For her to have written this and kept it together and performed this at her friend's funeral is heart wrenching. She could only have done it out of love.

A friend of mine sent out a text to a group of people that I was a member of, giving the date and location of a funeral for an ex girlfriend of mine that I knew from High School. I had no clue how she had died. I was just talking to her 2 weeks before but nobody had let me know anything till that text. But I had no time to figure it out. I had to rent a car at the last minute on a weekend, in Brooklyn and drive to Pennsylvania as quickly as I could. Very expensive! When i got there it was almost over. There was just a jar with her ashes so I didn't really feel like I could say goodbye. I went up to her son and asked him how it happened. I found out, then and there, that she killed herself. (I won't tell you how) - I wish i had this song to help me drive back to Brooklyn alone. At least I have it now, on repeat, till i can't cry anymore.

I'm sitting here sniffling, while waiting for you to pull yourself together. Once more, she wrote our universal ache into the most beautiful music. This is from the Aurora Wiki fan site: "Why Did You Go a Place? is an unreleased song by AURORA that was performed for a private concert. About the song: AURORA dedicated this song to a friend who died from a car accident in 2014. She sang this song at her funeral. She's said the following about the song: "It's important for the song to cry. That it is reminiscent of grief while it can relieve a little. This song is {NAME REMOVED FOR PRIVACY}'s song. And it always will be. I only had her in mind when I sang it in, thinking that a small part of her is in it if you listen extra well. "[1] [1] A post the mother of the friend posted. The link will not be shared here for privacy reasons." I wonder how it even came to make its way into cyberspace. But since it has, it does, as you said, so completely speak to what everyone must go through sooner or later. So simple, yet so very complex. I was super touched to read a comment here that Aurora herself decided to let the song stay because it has helped so many people.

Thanks for reacting in the most honest way possible to this unique and very private revelation from Aurora to her deceased friend. The fact it is out in the public is something I have a hard time with. I don't actually know if Aurora or her friend's family agreed to it. But it is and it can't be changed. Still it is a very comforting message she brings. It can comfort so many of us. She delivers her message on delicate butterflywings. So vulnerable, painfully true and full, full of love.

I think I've mentioned this in another comment, but I would love for you to react to my favourite Swedish artist Ionnalee (real name Jonna Lee), or her band Iamamiwhoami (pron: I am. Am I. Who am I.). Not much live material available, but both have made some stunning videos. It's difficult to know where to start, but I think "Samaritan" would be a good place to start (takes a little while before the music starts, but be patient... ;)): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYe6gI2nqK6glZI
