Great reaction. BABYMETAL created their own genre (which in part explains why they have 'BABY' as part of their name, it signifies the birth of 'Kawaii Metal' - kawaii meaning cute, as in adorable) and they are unique. There is no other band quite like them although others have tried to follow their lead - none of them have got close. BABYMETAL are the girls - Su-metal on lead vocals and dance, Yuimetal and Moametal on harmonies, backing vocals and dance and most importantly in getting the crowd involved. They are supported in all live shows since the end of 2013 by the Kami Band (or the 'God band' as in Gods of guitar, bass and drums) made up of some of Japan's very finest musicians. BABYMETAL formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of an Idol group (Sakura Gakuin) with a school theme for girls aged 11 to 15 - think of it like a stage school as the closest thing we have in the west. BABYMETAL separated from SG in 2013 when Su-metal reached the age of 15 and graduated - BABYMETAL only came into being because of Su-metal and her particular talents and went with her to became a band in their own right. You will be hard pressed to find two songs that sound the same, they play virtually every type of metal (thrash, black, death, prog, folk, speed, power etc) and throw other genres (ska, reggae, swing, EDM, rap and more) into the mix when you least expect it. They do things no other band can door would dare to even try. Some songs lean more to their pop roots, others are pure metal so some you may like others may not appeal but it is all good - there is something for everybody. Try 'Headbanger' (live at Legend 1997), 'Megitsune', 'Rondo of Nightmare' (with the Mischiefs of the Metal Gods intro), 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (live at Sonisphere 2014) or 'Road of Resistance' (live in Japan) first. Or the links emperor chop chop has provided are all good.

I’m glad you ended up doing this one first as opposed to the usual two of Gimme Chocolate or Road of Resistance. The parts you don’t like as much grows on ya. And if you’re open minded enough you’ll really enjoy those parts in time. It might not be your style now, but your style can change. I think you’d really like their song Starlight. Modern baby metal has less of the super poppy stuff but but has a bit of like a pop but not like kid pop I guess.

Think about this, in 2014 Babymetal went to England for Sonisphere the major metal music festival in the world. They were moved to the main stage a month or so before the festival unexpectedly. So here's an audience of metal heads waiting to hear hairy old men scream at them fronting bands with so-so musical ability. Instead a highly skilled band begins an awesome intro for 3 cute/pretty girls who start singing and dancing really really GOOD. It went from WTF to MORE real quick and the audience yelling for more at the end of the set. All their merchandise sold out. They have opened for Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lady Gaga. Flea even put on the makeup and robe and played on stage with them. They are the biggest international band you know nothing about. They have been performing professionally since they were 6 yo. Wellcome to the Foxhole!!!

I'm gonna stop you right now - there's NO other band like BABYMETAL. This is part of the reason I can't get enough of them. It has all the possible reasons to fail and it didn't because it was all crafted into perfection with talented and hard working people alround, be it the girls, the producer, the choreographist, the musicians... It's all a blend of pure, unadultered talent and you haven't even started to scratch the top of that iceberg dude. This is a compilation video. It's not even close to being near the best first exposure a metalhead could get. Especially with this song. I love this song, but the poppy element in it smacks you in the face. Prepare to be blown away and certainly wait until you've had 4 or 5 song reactions before you can even begin to comprehend what BABYMETAL is. Their catalogue is so vast and diverse with only three albums that it's literaly mindblowing. No two songs are alike. If you liked this, I wonder what you'll think of Road of Resistance live... Maybe on tonight's stream ? I'll try to pop in. :)

I was exactly like you when I first heard it some 5 months ago. The big question is, will you also got sucked into the "fox hole" as I am now. If a second reaction is coming in the future, Headbanger or Megitsune live performance should be your next. A lot of people will push for Road of Resistance but I believe it is better if you hold it off until you had watched those two. An extra internet point will be awarded to you sir if you can locate Pikachu within the crowd. Subscribed. No hesitation whatsoever.

@@TheGrumpyNerd In Japan demons are called Oni. He is the growling voice in the song. Japanese folklore says there is a particular Oni that lives in the mountains and comes down to eat children who pout or cry, and parents tells there kids the Oni will get them if they act up. But the Oni can't catch the girls in the song because they won't pout or cry. I love when they put their fingers up to their head to mock his horns.

In the tag game _onigokko,_ the one chasing the other players is called the _oni,_ this is also applied to the seeker in _kakurenbo_ (hide and seek). More motivation to run and hide under the pretense that this is looking for you. :D www.yokai.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2013/06/026-oni.jpg In the song, of course, the oni mentioned can be taken as literal, or as just meaning the seeker. It's weird. While _demon_ is a reasonable comparison to some characteristics of _oni,_ they are also like the trolls or ogres of other folklore. Those concepts work as the gist of it, but it's difficult to fully translate their representation between cultures (especially with a sometimes convoluted history of the meaning). There are also other kinds of youkai (though not all of them) which could be considered demons in the same manner, but aren't oni.

I'm 58 and have been a BABYMETAL addict since June 2019. I get my daily maintenance dose by listening to such tracks as Catch me if you can, Headbanger (go on, treat yourself to the live versions of this!) and Megitsune. This usually suffices but I often find myself having a sneaky watch of something else by them each day too. I could give them up any time I wished. But I don't wish that as they're too pleasurable. I have tickets to see them in my home town of Cardiff, Wales in Feb and hope this will cure me. I do, however, fear it may simply lead to buying more DVD's T-shirts and things with the word BABYMETAL on them as I am already more excited than when I saw Sabbath live in 1976 and Zeppelin live in 1979. This, by the way, is definitely the best song about playing Hide and Seek out there - Metallica and Iron Maiden certainly haven't done a better one. The band (The Kami Band) are great musicians and they are dressed in traditional Japanese corpse paint. If anyone doubts that BABYMETAL are Metal, I tell them to watch the track Death ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIPGapeYnM51hqs ) where Su, the lead singer, gets crucified live on stage while 20,000 fans scream "Death! Death! Death!" and a statue of the virgin mary crumbles to dust behind her. It was to celebrate her 16th birthday and is about as Metal as it gets. Great reaction, man! Enjoy your journey down the BABYMETAL Fox hole! PS If you love crowd reactions then you're gonna love BABYMETAL. Check out their first appearance at Sonisphere ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKCQkJaYm8mlj6c ) in front of 65,000 Metal fans who'd never heard of them and were waiting for Metallica to headline. Su was 17, Moa and Yui 15 and boy, do they kick ass! PPS @ 4:41...everyone gets that WTF moment the first time they see BABYMETAL. I think it's called Cognitive Dissonance, where all your expectations and ideas of what constitutes something (in this case, Metal) gets shattered. Oh yeah, you'll love Headbanger (again, the live performances are always best (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2PZpn6FoslkoNU ).

I know most people find Babymetal to be a bit of a head-scratcher at first, but many people also develop a real love for them after repeat listenings/viewings. You commented of course that you didn't like the pop elements. Granted this is an inherent part of their sound, but, as you heard, not the only thing. One of the things I really dig about Babymetal is that their sound from album to album (and actually also within each album) is incredibly diverse. They incorporate MANY different metal styles and non-metal elements as well. If you don't like the songs that have overtly poppy choruses and/or music, I can tell you that many Babymetal songs definitely keep the pop elements to a minimum or eliminate them altogether. A few I would recommend of the top would be "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!," "Syncopation," "Tales of the Destinies," "Brand New Day," and "Kagerou." Perhaps their most underrated song, which I dig because it is so different from their standard sound, is a song called "From Dusk Till Dawn." This song coincidently is also on of their few songs sung entirely in English. Anyway, I hope to see some more of your reactions to Babymetal. My advice? Stay at first away from "Gimme Chocolate," at least for a while, until you've had a chance to see their more metal-oriented stuff to give them a fair assessment as a metal band. My first recommendation would be to check out their "Legend 1997 - BABYMETAL DEATH" clip, just so you can see how metal this band can sometimes be. After that I would say maybe check out the "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!" live clip from that same show, a compilation clip that was made of "Syncopation," and their "Road of Resistance Live in Japan" clip. Enjoy.

The band name "Babymetal" comes from the birth of a new genre of metal fusing Jpop with traditional metal. It has nothing to do with the age of the girls even though they have been at for nearly 10 years now. I believe the lead vocalist "Su" is 22 now. They have been and continue to be on a worldwide tour. They are probably one of the biggest international acts out there. The backing band are called the "Kami band" and world class musicians. Certainly the best Japan has to offer. Every song they have in their catalog is different. They infuse different styles and cultures in every song. I hope you are ready for this journey you are about to embark on. Babymetal does not disappoint. I would just stay away from the compilations. Also, some of their best stuff is on dailymotion dot com

Great reaction, thank you! It will be interesting to see how your journey goes from here, in case you choose to do more BABYMETAL. On one hand, if you are looking for great crowd interaction, they are the band for you. On the other hand, their defining feature is fusing Metal with J-Pop, so there are very few songs without the Pop influence. Personally, I love it! I have never been a big Pop fan (my favourite band before BABYMETAL was Dream Theater), but I have never enjoyed anything as much as this band! It does take some getting used to, and some people will never get it, but if you are open to it, they are as fun as it gets! So far you seem like you are, so there‘s hope for you. :-) I hate compilation videos, though, especially with BABYMETAL‘s choreographed dancing, they are disruptive and incoherent. But we are here now, you‘ll certainly get some better recommendations than that one. :-) If you want to ease into them slowly, a great starting point would be „Road of Resistance“. It‘s as far from Pop as they get, and the performance is fantastic with a huge and great crowd: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIWoioh8nLGpm7s We‘ll see how far we can take you from there. :-)

Wow, I just recommended them on your latest video a few days ago! But I imagine you were talking about people on Twitch suggesting them to you. Still, I'm thrilled you tried them and enjoyed them! I've never seen anyone start with Catch Me If You Can. It's a little obscure. Nice choice! You've very right about the catchy choreography. Everybody ends up joining in whether they want to or not. You just see them perform it a couple times and you're compelled to copy it. As you guessed, there's no one else quite like them. They named their genre "Kawaii Metal" or Cute Metal, and only one or two other bands have tried to do it, but they didn't last. As many others have suggested, I think Headbanger might be one you'd love. Their songs don't all have such a pop chorus section, though a couple are even more pop than this, but most are more metal and less pop. Hope you enjoy! Oh, and if you cover new songs from their new third album, you might get a copyright strike. Songs from their first two albums are safer.

Yeah. A lot of songs has that pop stuff. Some people may not be able to palate the pure metal stuff, so they may be able to ease their way into metal genre through them. It's also something very unique. The most interesting thing is how their music evolved as they grew older. You have their super early stuff when they were like super young which was... pretty decent, their later years while Yui was still with them (stuff like this song), and their newer songs after when Yui left the group and the passing of one of their guitarists. I'm actually very curious to see how you react to these songs because of how different the songs are.

_"their later years while Yui was still with them (stuff like this song)"_ Later years? _Catch Me If You Can_ was released in early 2013 on the _Ijime, Dame, Zettai_ single, so this was even before their first album (and was track 10 on that album). :D

Strange song to introduce you to Babymetal, but great none the less. And your reaction was perfect. Check out Karate or Road of Resistance official. Your mind will officially be blown. Again.

Band is Dragonforce mostly. Consider "Karate" and "Gimme Chocolate". This song is about "Hide and Seek" but in Japan culture the "seeker" is a giant troll-demon.

My favorite songs by them, Rondo of nightmare (live), Kagerou (live), babymetal death (legend 1997 live). These won't disappoint you, it will leave you in awe and thirst for more.

You're gonna have to allow yourself to have fun with the poppy side of the band if you continue listening to them. Fun is the name of this band. As you noticed, all the fans do and it makes the performances so much better. And a lot of us are metal heads who don't necessarily like pop either, but good music is good music.

It is ridiculous...RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME!!! Welcome to the Babymetal universe!
@DeePal0724 жыл бұрын
This is one of their funniest songs, totally crazy and it's literally "catch me if you can" game going on on stage, the heavy riff underneath and their overacted dancing makes it so entertaining 😏 🤘🦊⚡
@watcher25545 жыл бұрын
Stay away from Gimme Chocolate at first since the pop infusion is not your thing...it's their poppiest of their older songs. But hey, you have songs about reoccurring nightmares being chased by formless demons, or a full on crucifixion or pissed off little sisters with driving beats all to satisfy your heavier cravings!! Technical DreamTheater like songs to Viking Metal(with real Vikings!!). Pick a sub-genre of metal and Babymetal probably has a song for you! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

They're definitely poppy, but they're also hard a fuck too. Keep in mind that none of their songs sound the same. Some are way heavier, some way more pop. But even the genre's of metal are all over the place. Road of Resistance is a great one to check out, also their live version of Karate from Download is pretty awesome too

Well, babymetal isn´t a "new thing". Maybe first time you see think "well, another one year group". I think this the first time years ago, and i was completely wrong. Babymetal is on the road from near 10 years now. When they start, the girls where about 11-12 years old only, and now the vocalist it´s going to be 22 (20 of december). The style goes from a very poppy sound at the beginning to a more hard and heavy now, but they touch a lot of genres. Some songs are more fun, more poppy and another ones are really hard. They even to sometimes crucifixions simulations on stage, just hilarious. But there´s a lot of not only people, metal groups who love them. Red Hot Chilli Peppers are close friends with them, even the drummer give once a birthday cake to Suzuka (the main singer) on stage. Rob Halford of Judas Priest sing with them "Breaking the Law" and "Painkiller". Rob Zombie loves them and is a fierce defender of them in twitter and other places. There´s really a lot of groups who like his style. Of course is sometimes fun, different, bizarre and poppy but they believe in metal, just a different one. Not better or worse, but different. And remember that: Babymetal is not "a band". Is a product, a very polished one from a Record Label, a risky bet that was a success. The producer of Babymetal was in an idol program, where young girls sing poppy songs, the ones you maybe hate. The producer himself is a metal fan, and a really big fan of one of the legendary japanese metal bands if no the greatest of Japan in all the times: X-Japan. Sukuza have a very powerful voice, and the producer thinks "mmm... maybe this voice is suited for metal... why not try and see what happens?" Well, happens Babymetal. Remember when see videos that this group is now 10 years old. You can see them from 11 years or so to the actual 20/21 years. A lot of thing changes in this time If wanna see another "all female metal" from Japan, try "LoveBites". I´m pretty sure you´re gonna love them kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn2plp9_bpiJoa8 Maybe a do some mistakes, english isn´t my native language, sorry if there´s some strange things in the post ;)

I heard good stuff about them, even some m8's told me to check it out "can't be arsed not wurth it" my reaction...... for fuck sake, i really am getting old at 48 (hope not) atleast i should try to have an open mind So i checked it out, and it is well it is ....... FUCKIN AWSOME. .. fuck me for not listening sooner to my m8's ....tbth i still feel in a weird way that i shouldn't like this THIS MUCH but nvr follow prejudiced emotions not even your own, or specially not your own. Always like what you like, look the way you wanna look, love who you wanna love. . . . . . . .see old and also preachy.

Eh who gives a fuck what you "should" like - just like what you like and enjoy it to whatever extent you want. Age be damned! You're NOT "too old" to enjoy this music however damn much you want! Who cares what anyone else thinks? :D

I think it's hilarious to watch all these people suggesting songs. It is my opinion that you could pick just about any BABYMETAL song at random and you will thoroughly enjoy the ride. It's pretty black and white. You either love them or hate them. You have already fallen on the love them side, so just let yourself go in the incredibleness that IS BABYMETAL...Kitsune up and have a nice day!

I had my 5 and 7 year old nieces jumping and singing along with this while I encouraged my 18 month nephew to bang the coffee table to the drums while my sister and our parents stared in horrified bemusement and my brother in law smiled discreetly after Sunday dinner not long ago. This particular video is the best version. Good pick.

Alright, you want down the rabbit hole? Here you go: Sis. Anger, Road of Resistance Live in Japan, Gimme Chocolate (Official), Megitsune (Official). Good luck not being sucked in!
@linko9944 жыл бұрын
Road of Resistance would be an obvious next step into Babymetal. Though I'd also suggest you check out my favorite song called "Akatsuki". And "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" is another great one if you watch it live. And Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere is another classic. This was one of their first shows outside of japan and they we're supposed to play a side stage, but then got moved to the main stage. They we're really afraid to meet a huge UK-Metalcrowd that may worst case throw their beer at them, but they totally won the crowd over that show.
