according to Herman Li she used the Guitar Hero version of the song so she could remove the guitar parts to add her own in, because there is no way to separate the two parts so it is important to note she played both parts

@@powertothebauer296 people use the recording for guitar hero because they can isolate or remove specific parts, because each part is sent in separately, so if you want the singing part removed you can do it, same for the guitar part and or drum part, which you can not do with a normal recording

Wow. Incredible score especially after everyone hyped it up. She's also chewing gum the entire time, and at one point during the solo, she shreds all the way down the neck and isn't looking. For the Love of God is still my favorite with Altitudes a close second. Probably because of the emotion/feel involved in getting those right and she gets knocked a lot, (incorrectly) for not showing emotion. Always respect your opinion, David. Keep them coming.

Tina Setkic started classical guitar lessons at the age of 6 , and later studied under jazz-rock guitarist Renaud Louis-Servais. According to Setkic her interest in the guitar stems from her passion for the work of female guitarists Ana Vidovic and Orianthi. 🎸🔥 She ones got an invitation from the late Eddie Van Halen to play with him on stage, she declined!

To be honest, its not my music, so her Steve Vai cover its my favorite guitar solo. But without being a guitarist, i can hear technical differences. I will say i like it more melodic, if that right said. But what i realy wnat to say. Thats the second best reaction i ever seen. I think you could live with that, because only Herman li beats you with his own song. So i become acquainted with Herman Li as a realy sympathic, grounded guy. And its the only reaction from a original artist to a cover i know about. So great respect for this! 9.7 I like it, also to watch the expectet reaction, expectet means not less fun to watch! So greets from Germany to you David stay healthy & safe

I’m so happy you got around to this. I love your technical critiques. Girl can play! Like you I’m amazed by her picking hand. Without sounding denigrating to her, it’s almost machine like because it is so clean. But the other thing that catches my eye is that when I watched her play Moonlight Sonata she holds the guitar on her left knee with the neck almost pointing straight up to the ceiling. When she plays a piece like this it’s on her right knee and there’s a lot more movement in the guitar itself. I’m not sure why she does this but I find it interesting. I’m a piano player but my guess is that the volume of notes in Moonlight Sonata requires a greater degree of accuracy and that is why the guitar is locked in almost one position. In any case great review and good job Tina!
@johnhawkins_twa
@johnhawkins_twa Жыл бұрын
Vincent, the left knee position with the guitar pointing upward at an angle is the normal position for classical guitar. Tina started out studying classical guitar from the age of 6-13 and she reverts to that position when playing any classical music piece even though she's using an electric guitar. I believe she has a cover of Vivaldi where the guitar is in the same position.

She played parts of the song in a different octave and uses the wahwah in the solo which wasn't used in the original. I think she killed it. Doing covers of songs doesn't mean doing them note for note. It's about putting yourself into it.

This is great, but it's the only track she seems to have done in several takes (albeit that may have been for production/camera angle purposes). In my opinion, Vai's For the Love of God, Becker's Altitudes, and Moore's The Loner are "it". I believe you're yet to do the latter two? 🤔

Hi, David. I have been viewing your reaction to Tina's rendition of "Moonlight Sonata" and I was not too sure whether to agree with the score you gave her then. It was only after viewing your reaction to her renditions of "For the love of God" and "Through the fire and flames' where you referred back to "Moonlight Sonata" that it became clear to me how you went about assessing her. I agree with you saying that a musician to have not only the technic (the know how) but especially how to apply it in order to enhance the dynamics to the point of making it your own - "giving your own spin on it" as you put it. I remember back in 1980, when I and another music student were asked to play a piece that we were both assigned to prepare for our practical examinations. This was aarranged precisely to demonstrate how two people would play the exact same piece but with altogether different approaches and interpretations thereof. In Tina's "covers", it is not only a matter of giving her own interpretation but how she puts it across. Where, when and how she places key dynamic instances, as well as the speed and accuracy she applies, are what makes her different from so many musicians out there. These are a few important things that would generally distinguish the really good musicians from the rest. I support you in your reactions and your evaluation on these three pieces of Tina S. I am actually curious to find your reaction to all the other pieces she put out there, simply because your scores make sense after the explanations you give as to how you arrive there. Thank you for that.

I wondered when you’d get around to this. I knew you’d give it the appreciation it deserved! She was 15 when this was recorded. Personally, I enjoy her rendition of “Moonlight Sonata” more. To “me” - TTFATF by DF is an exercise in self indulgence. But, FYI, there *IS* a mash-up of her and Junna playing TTFATF. (Just search “Tina S, Junna”. Fun to watch! On a different note: Did you see that Lovebites found a new bassist? (Yeah, they’re my favorite band as well!) Her name is Fami (sounds like Tommy). She has 650k+ subscribers on YT. (LB only has 85k+) They made the announcement on 10/15. Fami made the announcement on her own channel on 10/17. There “IS” a video of her announcement, with English subtitles. She’s pretty excited!! Last thing - You did a reaction to LB’s “Frozen Serenade”, but were reduced to the studio version. Here’s the live version from 2021 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5aboYSMqpKFhJo

David, I want to ask a question. I noticed that she did both the Herman and Sam solos at the same time. Which makes the performance even more mind-blowing. Shouldn't he play only Lee's or only Sam's solo? The original song features two guitarists. Was it just me that made an impression or is Tina simple from another planet?

There's no reason a single guitarist couldn't do both solos, other than 2 guitarists wanted to split the solos and share the responsibility. So she decided to play both of them herself, I say good on her for doing it.

As a lead guitarist myself I have certainly disagreed with your opinion in many videos about how the right hand picking is more important than the left hand's gymnastics. They are both important, but I feel you shrug off a lot of what technical guitarist do with their left hand because you are so tuned into the picking hand. Not just speed, but certain amazing or bad Vibratos, bends, partial bends, ghost bends Etc. There is so much nuance that the left hand does. Anyway, I just thought of an argument against the picking hand being the most important. Steve Vai has recently released a full instrumental song that is played with nothing but his left hand. The inspiration being that his picking hand was injured. Now think about that. There's no playing a full song with just your picking hand and open strings. (well some basic crap maybe, and the beginning of "Nothing Else Matters"). Anyhow playing one handed legato style is not anything new to Vai and Satriani, that being one of their signature playing styles. Anyhow...I have spoken. Rant over lol.

My favorite part about this cover is that she plays this monster if a song while chewing gum. And when she’s done she’s super casual about it, like it was as easy as counting to 3. I totally agree with you David, she is a professional and can’t be held to lesser standards than any other professional regardless if age. Some people are just born with talent and therefore they can be at a pro level much earlier than others.

I don't think a song cover can be copyright protected, but then again this is youtube.

She left KZbin and went to college/University to pursue a different career if I remember correctly. Also, left due to the fact that she was being harassed. But, if she comes back someday in the future I will be there.

Ideally she finds some awesome people and forms a kickass band that will melt the faces of the haters. It’s a big loss for the world of music if she pursues another career. It’s like if Da Vinci didn’t pursue a career as a painter and instead went for a career as a lawyer.

I'd say do a inception reaction and watch Herman Li's reaction to this video. While we're at it, Gee Anzalone also did a reaction video to Junna's drum cover of this song as well.
