"Tag" in Japanese is 鬼ごっこ(oni gokko) which sort of translates to "playing demon". The person IT is the demon. At the start of the game the dem9n calls out if everyone is ready, and if they aren't players yell back, "not yet." (Mada da yo), which is what they say in the song.
@rickwagner-2 жыл бұрын
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏃♀👹 You got it. This cute song is about playing a game that is kind of like hide-and-go-seek, with some tag and blind-man's bluff mixed in. Pursued by an "Oni"" which is a kind of Japanese Ogre. If not a real monster, than at least someone pretending to be one in order to terrify children into behaving. Fun times! Kawaii Metal! : ) If much of their charm is in the blending of the cute and the brutal, this song is a great example. They performed this song quite a bit in 2017, but not since. The last time I saw this one live was in Chula Vista, California when they were on tour opening for Korn.

BOH (the bassist) is so freaking charismatic, he really seems to have fun during live performances. In the live version of Karate you did, when the lead singer called out "everybody jump" he was getting like two feet of air bouncing with his giant 6 string bass. That always just made me crack up.

_Maada da yo!_ 🦊🤘🔥 Glad you're back just right on time with some great news about BM returns with new single coming this month and live performance along with new album next year so keep enjoying your ride until you reach this new era is getting everyone hype. This song is among many BM fans one of the most representative of their kawaii metal sound, is heavy but is cute or kawaii at the same time with so much energy and crazy circle pits and mosh from the crowd, not on this performance but you'll see that in another. This was live at Budokan Arena 2014 reaching a huge milestone with only 14 and 16 yo, after this they started the World Tour and reach the Sonisphere Festival you already saw. This time the Kami Band playing in order are: Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on that freaking monster 6-String bass, and Hideki Aoyama on drums. All of them are possessed by the Fox God the moment they step up on the stage, and I'm not even joking 🦊🤘 This crazy beautiful song is about hide & seek tag game, but isn't just any other regular child play, they're playing with an Oni, a mythological japanese creature human flesh eater 👹👀 This is heavy af. You can also noticed the punk section, many people reminds it the sound of some of the US rock punk like The Offspring or Green Day, and the heavy part apparently got some Slipknot vibes. Kami Band intro are rare and only on certain songs but throughout different live performance you'll hear slightly different changes because like said, not always were the same members and even the same members sometimes change their solo a little bit. If you want another melting faces intro you should go for: - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at this same venue you just saw, is a SuMetal solo and I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it, "Kawaii Metal" got the clip. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Great reaction. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre 👹 popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... and the idea of that probably amuses me a lot more than it really should 🤭), very little gets any more metal than that. 🤘 The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃♀🏃♀🏃♀👹 The Kami Band (in order of solos) that night were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. This was their second night (Red Night and Black Night) at the Budokan in Tokyo in March 2014. The Budokan is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics and now also one of the most prestigious venues for concerts in Japan (think Carnegie hall or Madison Square Garden). It is where all Japanese artists aspire to play - not so many ever get to do that. BABYMETAL became the youngest ever female band to headline there and they sold it out 2 nights running as their first album was being or was about to be released. They returned in 2021 to play 10 more concerts as part of their 10th anniversary celebration.
@road-runner2 жыл бұрын
Great reaction, thanks! Good guess, "CMIYC" is about playing hide and seek with an "oni", a sort of ogre. All in all it's brutally cute... or cutely brutal. 😁 This was my very first BABYMETAL song and got me hooked from the first moment. So it's very special to me. I really love the juxtaposition of the two extremes: brutal instrumentals (pretty much on their heavier side) and cute vocals and choreo, including my personal favorite movement: the infamous Moa slide (which I'm pretty sure you noticed at 3:51 mark on your video). And yes, this performance at the Budokan was their biggest show at the time. Two consecutive dates at one of the most important venues in Japan. That stage is quite insane, cool and a little too dangerous... although they went even crazier later. But that's another story. Until next time!

Here is a fun fact!! Marty Friedman who should need no introduction here has lived in Japan for 20+ years. There is a whole discovery totally worth exploring on that topic in itself. However I won't get into that here. In reality you might be suprised to discover that he has very strong connections with Babymetal. Takayoshi Ohmura one of BabyMetal's lead Gutarists. Just so happens to also play in Marty Friedman's own Japanese band lol. So one can almost say BabyMetal was destined for greatness here. Marty had once said, "In Japan, the mainstream allows heavy influences in the mainstream music." "Whereas in other countries like where I grew up in America." "There's heavy music, and there's non-heavy music, and they don't really mix very much." "Japan is different in that respect." Marty is very heavily involved in many music projects in Japan. So it's not all that suprsing i guess. Given his long history with helping to popularize metal's influences there. Babymetal is great for many reasons but Kami Band definitely are well deserving of reconization. :)

Some Japanese nursery rhymes and children's games are characterized in part by a dark atmosphere. So that's a theme that fits Metal surprisingly well, and BM understands that very well. That's why this song is so shocking. This is not just Kawaii.. If you inadvertently try to join them just because they look cute and fun, you could die. But if someone were to kill me, I would want to die in terror? No, I would want to be torn to death by Oni (Demons) in the seemingly pleasant atmosphere of this song... It's as pleasant as if I had been gotten by the Hokuto Ujo Ken (北斗有情拳, North Star Affectionate Fist) from Toki in The Fist of the North Star,... Excuse me from Japan...

Yep - the girls are hiding from an Oni. Really heavy song, with excellent call and response from all three girls, and the Oni literally breathing down their necks throughout (Are you ready yet?) Apparently, it's a thing in Japan to say to children that if they misbehave, an Oni (I think the reference to wearing red shoes is a nod to being chased by a Red Oni) will find you and get (eat) you. So when the Oni says, "I've found you!" I genuinely crap myself. I love a lot of BabyMetal songs (Kagerou is my all time fave) but Catch Me If You Can is my absolute favourite of their early songs. One of the songs that put them on the map recently for metal enthusiasts who never gave them a chance is their collaboration with Bring Me to the Horizon "Kingslayer" which featured them a bit. You could throw a dart at a list of their songs and never go wrong, though.

Apologies if this has already been addressed but yes, tag is called onigokko in Japan. Funny thing about Babymetal is while their creed is to unite and bring positivity, a lot of their older songs are very Japanese. The JP meaning in this instance is that the "oni" means demon while "gokko" means to do something together (Onigokko or 鬼ごっこ). Basically, the game is the same but have very different meanings, as is the culture.

If you really want to hear the other girls voice you can look up Moabanger where she does the last half of Headbanger. There is also a fan cam version of Yui doing the same. Both have great voices in their own way.

I suggest that you use the links below From the Babymetal Reactor Resource kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2WTh6CKfbibasU Going forward, if reactors want to keep reacting to the videos, I've come up with a solution that will make it possible to continue using the videos with logos that have already been tested against blocks. I've made a spreadsheet - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZYdthVAHYaOAYL6AuhVOHotQinMoPPFEuspqDMIIGD4/edit#gid=0 with links to both the logo and the non-logo videos, hosting them on a Russian social media site that won't remove them, and is out of the reach of the copyright trolls. There are a bit over 30 videos on there now, but I'll keep uploading more every day until they're all backup. I'll also be adding new videos that I'll test on an alt KZbin account before adding to the spreadsheet. If you can't access the spreadsheet for whatever reason, here are direct links to both the non-logo videos and the videos with logos: No logos - ok.ru/video/c6630874 With logos - ok.ru/video/c7184602 For reactors that want to put their logo over the videos, here is a link to the logos I use that are already made transparent - drive.google.com/file/d/1JUVfJGp36xR2n1FHl7PzRIxXhA5P4VyW/viewor you can use whatever logo you'd like. You can download the videos, which I recommend since the site can be a bit laggy sometimes, from this free website - okvid.download Although there are other videos on my channel there, only use the ones on the spreadsheet because some of the other non-logo videos aren't KZbin-safe. Kitsunes UP!

The concert was at Budokan and the stage setup is very complicated, IMO a bit too complicated as both Yui and Moa had falls in the concert series. "Catch Me if You Can" is superficially about a playground game where the tagger is called the Oni (a Japanese ogre). The Oni-san growls if Yui and Moa are ready and they reply "No not yet". BM's dance mimes running away and hiding. Oni are also used by parents to scare children into good behaviour and also appear in some regional Spring festivals. They are one of the thousands of kamis or supernatural beings that the Japanese honor. Then the lyrics mention that its "dangerous to go out in red shoes" which is a line from a children's poem, that all Japanese know, about a young girl wearing red shoes who is stolen away by foreigners. So we have lyrics about childhood fears and boogie men; this really is playing on child hood fears of losing their parents and being taken away. Of course it's also a great heavy jam with the Kamis shinning again and Su, Moa and Yui performing their hearts out. Next check out "Tales of the Destinies". It's the most challenging of BM's songs and the most progressive.
