Hey!! Can you please react to The Boyz? They are an amazing group that is very underrated. They just had a comeback yesterday that is called "Maverick". If you're into dancing, they are the perfect group. They're like a dance crew. Always synchronised and with amazing choreography's. But they are more than that. They have very unique voices that most times people don't pay attention to. They are known for having great B-sides, that are even better than the title tracks. I think you would like them. And their songs are very different too. Also their concepts are so good too. This comeback is inspired in Battle Royale which is very similar to Alice in Borderland and Squid Game. Please, can you react to them?? I wish more people would see their work.

YAVA! is indeed a great song, but the only videos of it available on YT are unfortunately compilations, since uncut pro-shots of it get copyrght blocked. Shawn and Thomas, you can get around this blocking by blurring the video and/or putting a logo over it like you did here; if you are willing to do that, check out the Babymetal Reactor Resource. The video on that channel about 'future plans' has a link in the description to a spreadsheet with links to uploads of full performances. I would highly recommend checking it out if you're interested, because there's some really good stuff on there. If you decide to do YAVA!, the performance from 2017 with the intro is best. ;) If not, there are still lots of excellent performances on YT. Road of Resistance live in Japan from their official channel is certainly one of those, but like you appear to have discovered in making this reaction, videos from the official channel tend to get blocked as well. I would recommend watching Rondo of Nightmare live at Budokan Black Night (watch the 7-minute one, not the one with subs) or Headbanger live at Legend 1997.

Babymetal pulls massive crowds in Japan. They played the Tokyo Dome two nights in a row with 55,000 people each night, it's pretty insane. they've been together for over 10 years now, since the girls were 11 and 12. They fuse J-pop with every style of metal, so their 50 or so songs are each unique and they are always super high energy live. They seriously put on the biggest, most theatrical, most fun live shows you will see. To really see them shine in their element watch Headbanger from the Legend of 1997 show and Road of Resistance Live in Japan.

BABYMETAL always delivers good "nani!?" reactions. 😀🤣 In some ways Hanabie's We Love Sweets is a modern day version of Gimme Chocolate - same basic subject, same blending of 'metal' with unique elements from Japanese pop culture, and generally not being what you'd expect. The big difference here is that BABYMETAL are an idol group rather than a band and some people foolishly dismiss them because of that. BABYMETAL are different from most idol groups in the way they behave and the type of music they make. They are on the edge of a kind of counter culture movement known as alternative idol, which takes all the sweet pop of typical idol groups and obliterates it with elements taken from other musical genres. Some groups go beyond messing with the music to challenge the whole concept of what idol is, sometimes in quite extreme ways. BABYMETAL have lots of great tracks to discover covering the whole spectrum of metal - live is generally the best way to experience them, but the MVs for Iine! and Megitsune are essential viewing. If you want to explore alternative idols, BiS (Brand-new idol Society) are often cited as originators, melding punk, J-Pop and attitude. If you want to stay with metal, PassCode are well worth a look (Taking You Out MV first). For something a little lighter I'd recommend Yanakoto Sotto Mute (alt-rock) and for a complete change of style MIGMA SHELTER do really interesting stuff with trance.

This was live footage from december 2013, and it was their first big show, with about 8k people if I remember correctly. 2 and a half years later they filled the Tokyo Dome for 2 consecutive nights (55k people each night!). They also regularly do US and Europe tours. They expecially love and are loved in the UK :) About the meaning for this song: this is simply a fun song, where they ask for some chocolate but are a bit worried about gaining some weight, but they have been working hard so please give some chocolate! They have many songs with deeper meaning, but also quite a few that are simply fun songs :D You were absolutely spot on with the "Kawaii" comment, since they invented a new genre, called "Kawaii Metal" :D If you want to get an idea of how this band started, look for their first 2 MV, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine". They will blow your mind xD Otherwise I think going for "headbanger" live at legend 1997 is good :)

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. Strangely, even though this video has the most views, 'Gimme Chocolate' ranks quite low on a lot of fans' order of preference - but for many others it is their favourite. They have about 50 songs, every one of them is different - some are straight metal others (like 'Gimme Chocolate') lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. They also mix in many other musical styles and genres with the metal, so if you don't like one song the chances are you will love the next, but the songs we all love or don't like as much differ from person to person. 'Gimme Chocolate' was filmed in December 2013, the day after the lead singer's 16th birthday, (she is Su-metal). The other two girls (Yuimetal and Moametal) were 14. They started performing as BABYMETAL just 3 years earlier in 2010 and last year they celebrated their 10th anniversary. It is the official video so even though it was a live show the audio is from the studio recording - if anything the live audio was better (they are a live performance act first, a recording artist second). BABYMETAL is the girls - Su-metal (lead vocals), Yuimetal and Moametal (backing vocals, harmonies and choreo - they lead the audience and act as a bridge between them and the band - the Japanese call it "ai no te"). They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a J-Pop Idol group which had a school theme, so it was for girls aged 10 to 15. Su was 12, Yui and Moa were 11. As part of that group they sang their songs and danced to a backing track with pre-recorded instrumentals. Against all expectations they started to gain a small following of their own, so they started to play their own shows, starting off in warehouses and tiny venues with a capacity of 150-250 people and they played the food hall at a metal festival. The singing was live but they had a fake band (Babybones - you spotted them in this video) dressed in skeleton suits miming the instruments to a pre-recorded backing track. As they gained more popularity a little more budget was made available and late in 2012 the live band (the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians) were brought in to play the encores in a couple of shows and they played at a couple of festivals with BABYMETAL. In 2013 Su was 15 and it was time for her to graduate from the Idol group (as I said before it had a school theme and was for girls aged 10 to 15) and it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle and should separate from the Idol group to go with her and become an independent band in their own right. In December 2013 she turned 16 and the final step was taken in the transformation of BABYMETAL from sub-unit of the Idol group to independent band (this happened at the show in this video) and the Kami Band replaced the Babybones for the 5 song encore and became their full time support in all live shows early in 2014. They have been with them ever since. They are now the most successful Japanese band outside of Japan of all time - their last album was the first by any Asian (not just Japanese) act to top the US Billboard Hard Rock Charts. You don't need to understand what they are saying - as Su-metal said after watching Metallica for the first time "Don't think. Feel." If there is an emotion they want you to get you will get it. Also watch the choreo - it often helps with interpreting what a song is about as well as leading the audience and getting them all (and I mean all, not just the first 10 rows) involved. There are bigger bands in Japan, but BABYMETAL sell out arenas in no time at all - in 2016 they sold out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people) two nights running and played a completely different set list each night. When you hear screams or growls they are on a backing track together with additional instruments like synthesiser or piano etc, everything else is live. Su-metal's vocals are always live - there are some specific parts in some songs on the backing track (eg when she is behind a mask in 'Megitsune', the "Parapapa parapapa" parts in 'Gimme Chocolate and there are a couple more), but those are obvious and she doesn't pretend to sing those parts unless the choreo needs her to. Yui and Moa may have additional help from the backing track where the choreo is particularly strenuous, but they were singing live a lot sooner and a lot more than many people believe or give them credit for. I am sure you will get a lot of recommendations for more songs - I say listen to everything they have ever done, every song is different and they never get boring. Maybe start with 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 (same show but with the Kami Band playing live too), but now you're past 'Gimme Chocolate' and you liked it you wohn't be disappointed with anything else. Look for real live performances (this was the official video and had the studio audio dubbed over the live footage) as that is where they are always at their best ... and they have many international awards to prove it.

I would add: there are 3 MV that I highly reccomend: "Megitsune", "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine". For any other song is ok to go for the live performances, but for these 3 I would recommend the MV first :D Megitsune may need a logo on top like Gimme Chocolate, the other 2 are safe.

@@Singulitarian No, you keep accusing me of saying that and it is not true. Please read again what I actually did say: "Strangely, even though this video has the most views, 'Gimme Chocolate' ranks quite low on a lot of fans' order of preference - but for many others it is their favourite. " My own personal thoughts are that as a live song it is great, I completely agree and I love it at live shows. You are right, it is played so often for a reason and it is a very good reason … but the official music video version keeps it outside of my own top 40.

Gimme Chocolate is definitely a "shock value" type of song 😂, nonetheless they have other amazing songs such as Megitsune, Road of Resistance, etc. Babymetal is largely credited as the originators of "Kawaii metal" which, as you've seen from this song, is a combination of Jpop and metal. They also tend to implement other genres into their music as well such as edm and even hip hop (in a few songs). Babymetal was formed in 2010 with the lineup of Su-metal (with the positions vocal and dance), Moametal, and Yuimetal (with the positions of scream and dance). Originally, Babymetal was a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, but they became an independent act in 2013. Following Su-metal's departure from Sakura Gakuin, they released their debut album in 2014. In October of 2018, it was anounced that Yuimetal had decided to departure from the band due to health issues. In 2019, Babymetal introduced three backup dancers called "Avengers" who performed in rotation at each live show to form a trio with Moametal and Su-metal. (Fun fact: one of the "Avengers" recently participated as a Japanese trainee in a reality competition show in which 9 girls would be selected to debut in a Kpop girl group. She unfortunately got elimanated tho.) (edit: As someone else already mentioned, you should definitely check out Dreamcatcher. They're a Kpop girl group with rock/metal influence in their songs. Some of the members are also fans of Babymetal)

Not only originators of "Kawaii metal" but the only actually self proclaimed Kawaii metal band, Kawaii metal is not a genre, it is a gimmick that Babymetal used to market themselves overseas. Nobody calls anything "Kawaii metal" in Japan. Babymetal's genre is simply known as a mix of multiple metal genres and the idol jpop genre

The other two (Yui and Moa) were 14 at the time. They're both 22 now. Even though the whole concept is the combination of JPop/Idol and Metal, this is definitely one of their most pop songs. Even so, that blast beat gets you. And the whole thing is about 10x heavier live. They have been joined on stage for this song by members of Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and DragonForce. Not all at the same time of course. : ) It's also the only song they've performed on American TV ('The Colbert Show' in 2016). From the Babymetal Reactor Resource kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2WTh6CKfbibasU Going forward, if reactors want to keep reacting to the videos, I've come up with a solution that will make it possible to continue using the videos with logos that have already been tested against blocks. I've made a spreadsheet - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZYdthVAHYaOAYL6AuhVOHotQinMoPPFEuspqDMIIGD4/edit#gid=0 with links to both the logo videos and the non logo videos and are hosing them on a Russian social media site that won't remove them, and is out of the reach of the copyright trolls. There are a bit over 30 videos on there now, but I'll keep uploading more every day until they're all back up. I'll also be adding new videos that I'll test on an alt KZbin account before adding to the spreadsheet. If you can't access the spreadsheet for whatever reason, here are direct links to both the non logo videos and the videos with logos: No logos - ok.ru/video/c6630874 With logos - ok.ru/video/c7184602 For reactors that want to put your own logo over the videos, here is a link to the logos I use that are already made transparent - drive.google.com/file/d/1JUVfJGp36xR2n1FHl7PzRIxXhA5P4VyW/viewor you can use whatever logo you'd like. You can download the videos, which I recommend since the site can be a bit laggy sometimes, from this free website - sovid.net/ I recommend using the "HD" option when downloading to keep the file size reasonably small. Although there are other videos on my channel there, only use the ones on the spreadsheet because some of the other non logo videos aren't KZbin safe. Kitsunes UP!

Nice reaction. Babymetal are a lot of fun and it only gets better from here. The way you described 'kawaii' is more like 'burikko' I think. Kawaii simply means cute. Like a puppy or a ribbon in their hair. It doesn't have to be with a baby voice. Babymetal can get a little burikko at times but they were only around 12 when they started so it's usually more like they are being kids. 🙂

It's cool that you mentioned Hanabie - they're great too, along with many other all-female or female-fronted rock and metal bands that have popped up in Japan in the wake of Babymetal's success in pioneering the fusion of cute/pop and metal. My recommendation for your next reaction would probably be either Headbanger live at Legend 1997 or Rondo of Nightmare live at Budokan Black Night (make sure you get one of the 7-minute videos if you do this one; some uploads omit part of the performance). Those videos tend not to get copyright blocked, so you won't have to blur and put a logo over the video like you did here. If you're fine with taking those steps though, check out the Babymetal Reactor Resource. There's a link in the description of the 'Future Plans' video there to a spreadsheet with links to uploads of the _really_ good stuff.

Guys, you are not just watching an ordinary band now. This band is unique and is now in the Top 10 best metal bands ever according to Metal Hammer 2020. 🦊🤘🦊 A few suggestions to react next are: - Road of resistance - Megitsune - Karate - Catch me if you can - BxMxC - Syncopation and a lot more!

Babymetal are the most successful rock/metal band to ever gain popularity outside of Japan (they reached number 1 on the US Billboard Rock charts). They are the reason the J-rock/metal scene is currently being noticed worldwide.

Welcome to the world of Babymetal, took your sweet time getting here :p The name Babymetal also refers to the new sub-genre of metal (kawai-metal/cute metal) that they are ushering in, they've been around since 2010 (originated from a sub unit of a junior J-Idol group). They're definitely unique, one of a kind group - glad you guys didn't miss out on them :) They've got some nice music videos, but live is usually the way to experience Babymetal, they're built for live performances. Enjoy your Babymetal journey!

Great first reaction, and welcome to the Metal Galaxy (and the foxhole of Babymetal). "Gimme chocolate" is usually an actual WTF song to pick as a first reaction, but I am glad you enjoyed it anyway, lol. This recording is from the 2013 show "Legend 1997" (referring to the year Su-Metal, the lead singer, was born). The crowd size is nothing compared to the 55.000 they had in the Tokyo Dome in 2016 on two consecutive days (yes, that's right, 110.00 in total^^). Still, from what I've seen, every crowd in Japan (and in some other countries as well) is always insanely engaged and hyped and go absolutely bonkers. There are about 50 songs to choose from for your next reaction to Babymetal. I would suggest "Headbanger" (from the same "Legend 1997" show), "Megitsune" (this one is one of the few songs where the official mv is almost as good as any live performance), or "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" (live at Sonisphere 2014 if you want to see 60.000 people crowd^^). One final thing: Please try to pick a live performance over the mv (with very few exceptions, as mentioned before) and never react to a compilation video! Looking forward to your next reaction, that was great to watch!

I came for the BTS, but this was a VERY pleasant surprise! I've been a Babymetal fan since 2015 and I finally saw them live right before the whole Covid mess. Let me tell you, it was a total blast! You were right on when you called them kawaii. Su and Moa are in their 20's now but they're still as kawaii as ever. Their genre is also called 'kawaii metal' so nope, it's not exactly j-pop. But I understand the confusion. I know there are certain individuals known in the fandom who always give excellent information to newcomers, so I'm not going to bore you guys with my own subpar explanations. Songs I definitely recommend to check out from my own personal favorites are Megitsune, Headbanger!, YAVA, BxMxC and Catch Me If You Can. Live is definitely the way to go with them. They're great performers and Su-metal's voice (the lead singer) is way better live imo. Plus live they are backed by the Kami Band who are total legends. But I must say that with Megitsune, the MV is pretty dope to check out as well.

Well, you're in it now! Your first full dose of Babymetal was a good one: "Gimme Chocolate" is arguably the one song that put Babymetal on the radar. Now you could do one of two things: you can jump around like a flea on a hot brick and wander the foxhole reacting to this and that - which isn't a bad way of experiencing Babymetal - or you could go back to the egg: check out their very first MV "Doki Doki Morning" ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZrVmYRunrGXmNk ) then match it with the live version ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6ibioFudtJ7qMk ) and do that with each of their songs (many do not have MV's but there's a live version for virtually all of their songs (I recommend finding "Gans Tomas" (kzbin.info/door/6J4z8wT6M27z7tiYdaKOEQ ) on KZbin for many of the live versions - the quality is quite superior; I suggest the "Legend 1997" of 2013 playlist)). In short, travel the path that they and many of their fans took to get to where we are today. You'll find good songs and ones that aren't so good, you'll find triumph (Sonisphere 2014) and tragedy (the departure of Yuimetal in 2018), you'll find Black Babymetal, and you'll find that although Babymetal started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal"), they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box. Alas, I, too, was late to this party but I think I've gotten up to speed now. 🤘🦊🤘

I love Hanabie (and your reactions to them), but I see people get shit for comparing them to BM. It's nice to see it the other way, lol, and it makes sense, it's kawaii aesthetics with heavy music (even though it's very different, of course). It was a great reaction to watch, thank you^^
