The Beastie Boys put out eight albums from 1986 through 2011. All of them went platinum. One of them went diamond. They are legendary.

@@mattwash5338 i'm guessing you meant to type "I don't doubt that for a second." if not, from wikipedia: "Beastie Boys have sold 20 million records in the United States and had seven platinum-selling albums from 1986 to 2004. They are the biggest-selling rap group since Billboard began recording sales."

@rollomaughfling380 7 ай бұрын
Of course they had 'fancy computers' in 1998. Where do you think the samples came from? The loops? You're making it sound like they were rolling around drunk at Headly Grange with Led Zeppelin in the '70s. Pro Tools and digital samplers had been around for many years before this. What a dumb comment.

Beastie Boys have been around since the 80s and have been super influential for many rappers. LL Cool J and Eminem are a couple that come to mind. They are also in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This group is legendary. It's sad so many people have forgotten them.

The Beastie Boys 1978-2012. They were there since the Furious five, Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash. There is a major reason why they were inducted into the Rock hall of fame after Run DMC. They STARTED Def Jam records. They discovered LL Cool J. Beasties had the FIRST RAP ALBUM in HISTORY to turn PLATINUM. This song was around 1994 1995, off their 4th album.

This was off their 5th album Hello Nasty in ‘98. I still remember when the music video debuted on MTV. You should check out “Sabotage” “Sure Shot” “Shake Your Rump” “Letter to NYC” “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” “Too Many Rappers w/ Nas” and “3 MCs and 1 DJ” among others. It was very sad in 2012 when Adam Yauch “MCA” passed away to cancer.

Beastie Boys came from the punk rock scene. Back in the day Hip Hop wasnt being in a lot of clubs. So MCs found a home in many punk venues. Ad rock MCA and Mike d were heavily influenced by hip hop culture and created a fusion of punk and hip hop. They were one of the first groups to be signed to Def Records. Licensed to Ill has sold over 10 million albums and is one of the most sold rap/ hip hop albums of all time. Beastie Boys would go on to tour in both hip hop and punk tours for their careers until the sad death of MCA. It is courteous in the hip hop community and punk communities to shout out MCA with a RIP MCA. Many rappers owe their careers jump starting with being associated with them like Public Enemy and LL Cool J

Its nice to see younger rap fans go back and listen to some OGs. These boys should be on the Mt. Rushmore of rap. One of the first groups to get me into the genre in the late '80s. I still listen to their shit on the regular. Absolute Legends.

Beastie Boys are rap legends, OGs of hip-hop love the hell out of them. I remember seeing a video of Method Man of Wu-Tang Clan gushing about Beastie Boys, and Eminem pays homage to their first album, Licensed to Ill, with Kamikaze's cover art. Licensed to Ill is awesome for being the first real example of rock and rap combining, it thrusted mainstream attention on rap for pretty much the first time, and their second album Paul's Boutique is insanely good for being entirely made of samples in '89. Beastie Boys are fucking GOATS

My sister saw them in the 90’s and she said that they were playing instruments while rapping….then they would rotate and take turns on the different instruments on each song. You should check out the song they did with Nas “Too Many Rappers” 👍 The Besetie Boys are iconic, no joke. You just listened to some rap royalty.

The Beasties absolutely were goofy AF and that was their goal. This song was 1998, but Beasties ARE old school 80s too. In the 80s they bridged rap and rock and in the 90s they bridged rap and electronica. I KNOW I’m old but it blows my mind that there are people just learning about them. They are one of the GOAT and I’m glad you gave them the W.

Let me clarify something about Beastie Boys. Even til the end, they embraced all sorts of styles. Some tracks sounded "old school" even in the 2000's intentionally but are fire. 15 years from now, some young person is going to react to The Weekend and say "is this guy from the 80's? He's from the 80's."

I will miss them more than public phones. Damn, I miss those things.

A lot of their videos have like a comedy element to them even though they're spitting like Champions when it comes to flows. I think they're very first recorded single was in 1979, but that's before their first album came out. They've been around forever and they are some of the Founders old school hip hop, along with Run DMC LL and the like. They inspired Eminem, he's even said so himself. You need to listen to Paul Revere which is one of their most famous songs ever. Yo the beat man, the beat is just... you got to listen to it. Not to mention a fact that it tells a story like you going to feel like you in there with them and shit don't get that nowadays. Also, remember that though they're a rap group, they're really a hip hop group so there is a different vibe. This is true hip hop. Sometimes for people forget about the difference you know what I mean. These boys can flow AND they speak ENGLISH... they don't Mumble through some bullshit, you can hear what the fuck they're telling you! And b-boy bouillabaisse. This song is like 12:00 minutes long and in reality it's like five different songs. Give it a shot you'll dig it. Side note neither one of these songs has a video so you should just watch the lyrics.
