Today I reacted to Big Girls Cry from the 1000 Forms of Fear album. I've always been highly irritated by the insinuation that "grown ups" or "strong people" don't cry. Horse spit!

Before it comes to me, I have to say that sia is a genius ! She has the girl on the video, doing all the dances & that girl is amazing. Sia hides her face & no one know what she looks like. She has her hair over her face as she is singing. What better way to hide your true identity. No one knows what she look like, so she's not going to pestered by autograph hunters or of cause the paparazzi. With me Ive had arthritis since I was 16, Im now 60 come the 19th of this month. Some days are good days, others are agony. However I try to hide that agony with my smile. You could say that my smile is my phantom mask, while hiding my pain from others. Sometimes that mask slips but is quickly replaced by another phantom mask. So glad that your still with us on this mortal life journey, as you are way too beautiful to leave us just yet :) Great reaction & love your kitty ears :)

@@MentalAmanda just letting you know regarding this comment, once she sobered up, she made a song in honor of Natalie, that friend who saved her, called “Natalie’s Song” which looks over that phone call. I recommend taking a listen when you can; its such a calming song. That being said “Colour The Small One”, the album this song is from, is her most personal when it comes to her trauma and ptsd. A must listen to if you haven’t already. I love you, Keep going

Sia is so powerful and challenging in her art! Please react to the whole trilogy; Chandelier and Elastic Heart, 2 more amazing unconventional videos with Maddie! This video hits me hard and makes me cry sometimes, I have bad anxiety and other mental health issues, when I have meltdowns and breakdowns I can’t control it and I’m saying sorry to people that I’m like this, just crying over and over because u want it to stop but it won’t so u do stuff to take away the pain such as self harming, which I have done a lot but getting better not to. Great reaction xx

The scene that bothered you so much ends in a quite... funny way, maybe you try watching it again! I remember when I first watched this vid and I was mesmerized and triggered in the same time and I think Sia wanted that. "Art Should Comfort the Disturbed and Disturb the Comfortable" - it says a great quote by Cesar A. Cruz. And Sia knows how to do that making you cry and making you feel incomfortable only to make you smile in the next second. That's why I love her so much and she helps me so much with my mental health. She always show you the darkest part of hers and of human nature in her music but gives people hope in the same time by adding a playful, silly, joyful part through a note or a gesture.

I know a song about depression and leads to suicide (luckily only in the song, so the writer didn't have to do it in real life), but it's a bit of a song with a real backstory what lead to the song. Also normally it's not a song that is recommended as a first listen to the band, not without knowing who is who and about the history of the band. They also have a huge following on youtube and this song is probably the most valued song because it's intense, epic and very personal to the band. It's a song that for that reason they also don't perform live that often. So here is the backstory: It's about the band Nightwish, a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in 1996 by Tuomas (writer and keyboardist), Empuu (Guitarist) and Tarja (their first lead vocalist). After 9 years in the band they made a lot of great music and had a lot of success, in 2005 the band fired the singer Tarja after a long period of incidents, annoyance and growing apart (she was planning on leaving the band and going solo at that point). But they fired her through an open letter they wrote for her right after their last performance together(what became the dvd End of an era). Because she was planning on leaving for a while, it created a lot of friction in the band and was tearing it apart. So they wanted to get rid of that negativity and move forward with the band. That's why they felt they had to fire her. This open letter was also shared with the fans and everybody was shocked by it, how could they fire their beloved Tarja? She was also hurt by this because she didn't expect it and didn't want to end things this way. So there became a lot of backlash on the band from fans and media and such, especcially on Tuomas as the leader of the band. This drove him in a very deep depression. Did he ruin his beloved band with this action? But Tuomas is a brilliant and very emotive writer. He fought through this depression by writing songs and this is the most intense one. Then they hired a new singer (Anette) and made the album Dark Passion Play. This song was the first song of the album, cause it starts at the end (of an era, with Tarja), goes through his dark depression what leads to his musical suicide and on to a new beginning. The song is called the Poet and the Pendulum, but i would recommend this song live at Wembley with their 3rd and current singer Floor (because she has the ability to make you feel the emotions through her voice). The song is a long and very intense ride, but also is very emotional, beautiful and really epic! And i can't stress enough that this song is very dear to their fanbase called the Nightwish army (who will flood your channel) and that normally they will steer you clear of this song because of the complexity with the emotions and the backstory till you know the band better. It's one of their hardest songs to start with, but really is beautiful. And topic wise right up your alley. I will leave the link here also, but i would recommend also reading up about them and this story on wikipedia and such. I hope you like it. Good luck! Stay safe and stay healthy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGW5l6xrrqisY8U

Again, this is not Sia on camera in the video. The girl in the video is Maddie Ziegler, who became famous at a very young age as a featured dancer on the television show Dance Moms. Sia contacted Maddie and her mother to enlist Maddie as a dancer for the Chandelier video. Maddie has subsequently appeared in several of Sia's videos including Elastic Heart, Cheap Thrills, The Greatest, and this one. Maddie has also toured with Sia, performing her interpretive dances in live concerts. For several years now, Sia has avoided showing her face in public, at least as much as possible. In live concert settings she either sings with her back to the audience or hides most of her face behind extremely long bangs and/or hats and veils. Maddie serves as something of an alter ego, wearing Sia's signature blond (and later two-toned) wigs.

⚠️ Warning ⚠️ Unpopular opinion: Crying alone in your bed is fine , and you aren't weak for that, but people who cries in public , in my opinion , are using a sign for asking others to help them because they are uncapable to fix their personal problems and so yeah, like a baby they need some to act like their mama and to help them. I know my interpretation isn't very popular but I really feel like ppl who cries in public are weak, because you are strong confronting your feeling alone (the best way to confront your feeling), but when you are doing it in public it just ain't the same, you are not looking for emotional confrontation, but for atention or lack of capacity to overcome the situation. Moreover while you aren't cring in bed but in public, you are wasting valuable time that could be used to improve yourself. I know a girl who cries every single day for the most stupid things , and she is never confronting an emotion, she is just seeking for atention and give pity so that others take pity on her weakness and incompetence. I told you my opinion was unpopular.
@MentalAmanda
@MentalAmanda 2 жыл бұрын
If someone IS seeking attention, it is because they need help. Humans are pack animals, so being able to share thoughts and emotions with others is natural. But you are certainly allowed your opinion.
@zenyattakawai3076
@zenyattakawai3076 2 жыл бұрын
@@MentalAmanda Thank you for allowing me to dissent (I did not expect less, I also tell you). As for what you say that humans seek attention when we need help, it is true, but perhaps you interpret that help is only asked for when it is needed. The girl I mentioned (at her 18 years old) , cries for failing an exam for which she has not studied, and cries asking the teachers to repeat it, or complains about how unfair it is blah blah. She asks for help, that does not mean that she needs it or that it has to be given in her situation, because she does not cry to vent her emotions, but to be freed from the responsibilities of her incompetence. So for that I think that strong people cry, but when there is none that can hear them, 'cause they are strong and they ask for help in a normal way (nlt crying pathetically) , weak people cry in public for a compassion that I don't think anyone deserves, they just cry out and loud.
@MentalAmanda
@MentalAmanda 2 жыл бұрын
@@zenyattakawai3076 We don't know the experiences of others. What if she is struggling with crippling depression behind closed doors and she doesn't study because she is fighting to merely survive? What is she cries from shame and guilt?
@zenyattakawai3076
@zenyattakawai3076 2 жыл бұрын
@@MentalAmanda I know that struggling with depression is tough, but if your fight cannot manage with you personal/emotional problems and with your duties, then you have miss a figth, and strong people can carry a lot more that their personal problems, usually they can carry other problems while doing what they have to do. Btw, people with depression don't usually seek for help, I know some do, but those who do inform that they have depression, and in Europe people with depression receive free treatment that also specializes in their education, being able to request extra time for exams, for example. So it is neither realistic nor an excuse.

Suicide is not selfish. Suicide is a symptom of depression, the product of someone's brain malfunctioning and turning against them. The last thing I was thinking on the ledge where I almost jumped was "this is what's best for my son and my friends" because my brain was not working properly. I believed that as absolute truth.

@@MentalAmanda fair enough, I was referring more to those who do it because they lost money etc. Mental Illness is a different story and chemical imbalances have much power so none of us can be the judge over them or what they cause someone to do, but for milder cases and the ones I was referring to if they believe life is a gift and not ours to take one may be more likely to explore all other options when suicidal thoughts arise. Like you have said there are happy people living in rubbish dumps, and suicidal people living in mansions. It could be a matter of simplifying our sources of joy that can change our entire outlook. Smelling the flowers, noticing the birds, enjoying helping others, even finding out if there is a real God and if he can help us can be life changing. Sometimes your 100% is to just survive the day. Nothing more. Other days you do all the basic things, like geting out of bed, eat, shower and then you do all the things you need to do, like go to the store, call your Dr, work, pay the bills. And then you have great days where you do all the basic stuff, the needed stuff and then all the "should", like eat several healty meals, exercise, laundry with energy over to go for a coffee with friends, listen to that happy music, randomly deep clean your bathroom, make your meals actually look nice. But yeah, the bad days, where you can't get out of bed and the thought of food makes you cry suck. But we have survived all of them, that gives me the streanght to think I will survive the next one that dares to bother me :)
