The song is nice, but the video is great. I usually don't like interpretive dancing, because i usually don't get the point, but this video makes it very clear. You see it as the inside of a human mind, i saw it as a parent child relationship, but either way the point is once you are mature, you can't go back to innocence. It's like in the Logical Song.

The 'sweet' fight between the messed up adult and the pure inner child. The adult can be free but doesn't realize that being blinded and kept in the cage of his own limitations, fears, traumas. Sia brought subtility and deepth in pop world - she's a genius. Thank you for reacting to this vid and for the accurate interpretation!

After deep diving into this music video the best explanation for it is this... it's sia and her dad in the cage of mental health problems and their struggles with it, she is able to escape the cage of mental health problems but her father was not despite efforts on her part. After watching the music video with that in mind I literally started crying during the long silence at the end. It's almost a perfect example of interpretive dance when the first time I saw it I was like that was weird but upon re watching it several times and understanding the back story I can more deeply understand Sia's struggles better than if she told me about them person, figuratively speaking of course.

This song is so relatable for WAY too many people..... like the line, 'I've got thick skin and an elastic heart, BUT YOUR BLADE IT MIGHT BE TOO SHARP.' There are few people that can break you as much as a parent... I wish everyone who has those feelings can overcome them. ❤ They weigh in you so, SO heavily, no matter how old you get, and that inner struggle is well portrayed in the video. Very beautifully done. 👏 (I know the video is controversial, but maybe that's a manner of perspective I think.)

@Ks You’re still only a third party observer, and don’t even know for a fact that those allegations are true. Not saying they aren’t, but we can’t judge everyone just based on rumors and hearsay, need factual information and evidence. Just look at at the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp situation, it’s sad to say, but it’s been proven that some women lie in order to ruin someone else’s reputation. At the end of the day second or third hand knowledge can’t ever compare to first person experience.

I always saw Maddy as courage and willingness to step out of her comfort zone. He represents fear to me. He can’t see that he can get out of that cage either. For me it’s the fight between fear and giving up and continuing on and fighting in the face of fears. This is a really cool way to see it too.

If you haven't already, I recommend to you to read Sia's explanation of Elastic Hearts and the visual images in this video following a loud hysterical protest against this music video claiming it was paedophilia. Sia talks about her father who was trapped in mental illness when she was a child.
@ExarchGaming
@ExarchGaming 2 жыл бұрын
People who try to label any interaction between an adult and a child as pedophilia is extremely ignorant. I remember an incident around 10 or so years ago, where a dad was walking and holding his daughter's hand. She was upset about something and was crying and making some commotion, and a bunch of bystanders actually attacked this dad claiming he was a pedophile. Because he was holding his daughter's hand while she threw a tantrum as 5 year olds are prone to doing. My sister is a dancer, and we watched this music video together, and I explained some of the backlash Sia and Shia were getting over the track, and it straight up pissed her off. Because there was nothing inappropriate about this choreography.

Amanda, just want to tell you, I've been watching a lot of your videos, and I'm glad that you're doing what you're doing, facing your demons and showing people that life is worth fighting for. That it doesn't magically get better just because you're not gone, because the fight continues to survive, to matter, to exist, but still you fight because there is good in the world that you can bring to others. I definitely feel this song pretty hard, feeling like I need to be there for others, and yet it feels like I have virtually no one. It hurts having not even a handful of friends, and feeling as if I'm completely forgotten by everyone until I'm needed for something, and once I've helped, I'm consigned back to oblivion. 70 hour workweeks, homeschooling my 5 kids (I have primary custody, divorce finalized 9/9 this year after 15 years of being unhappy), and spending the rest of my time doing what I can so that I'm too busy or distracted to think and wallow in grief, in self-hatred, in feelings of worthlessness, and most days, I succeed. Most days. Not most nights. Keep doing what you're doing, and know that you have support in many places. I would be happy to be a return voice of non-judgment and a safe space should you ever want a new friend to talk to. Also, if you haven't heard it, "Listen Before I Go" by Billie Eilish is an insanely powerful glimpse into that feeling of utter helplessness and hopelessness. It's oddly soothing (but then again, I've always liked depressing songs), though I will tell you now that it would trigger you pretty hard, and moreso the more times you listen to it and fully take it what all is being said. But perhaps it might also be a puissant way of reaching people to help them understand what people who suffer from an extreme depression feel, what they go through, the thoughts that go through one's head, even if (especially if) they seem unreasonable. Might be a really compelling reaction video to do. I wish you good mental health and friendship and laughter in your future!

Though not normally big on "artsy" videos, I liked this in that it reminds me of the challenges raising a grandchild with autism, who used to have some epic meltdowns. I bear quite a lot of scars on my arms and shoulders where he literally bit chunks of flesh out of me, as I tried to restrain him from hurting himself. Me a 280-pound guy grappling with a 60-pound little boy. However, when he would eventually calm down he was a totally different kid. When he saw me bleeding he would become extremely remorseful. He'd wipe the blood off me, then blow on my wound and kiss me. Years of ABA therapy, and we started to learn sign language to help him communicate, and he's much better now. Still excitable (the ADHD), but affectionate. I learned a long time ago not to take his violent attacks personal ... he didn't give me the scars on my body. His condition did.

As a parent, I was also terrified when I took my 11 (at the time 10) year old son to a professional. I am not anti-medication when it is actually necessary, but it is GRAVELY overprescribed. I was very upfront that medication was a last resort. A good professional will respect that. They mentioned it here and there and I always asked a lot of questions when it came up. It never ended up being necessary, though I know many professionals would have pushed it for his behavioral struggles. We use CBD and that has helped. If you would like to try some, I can send you and her a free bottle of CBD gummies. I am assuming this is her first cycle and you are correct in assuming that it can throw off hormones and lead to emotional instability. The best thing you can do is keep the line of communication open, validate her feelings and ask if there is anything specifically that is making her feel that way. Please keep me updated.

Then she asked, "Why doesn't he escape? He can fit through the bars," I said "well it a metaphor, he's doesn't see the escape that she see's, its a cage of his own making. So he can't escape because his trauma makes him blind to what is obvious to her.....holding back tears. It all made sense it that moment, and we'll always share love of this video.

It sounds like you have had some trauma in your past. You deserve to heal. And it is possible. I have seen people in their fifties and even older find healing and peace. Please reach out to a professional that can help you process the trauma. As a sexual assault and emotional abuse survivor, it really does help.

We should keep in mind that your "interpretation" skills are nil. I so hoped that you would redeem yourself in the commentary- but YOU have NO idea what they are saying. How offensive that you think that without experiencing anything- you could possibly understand anything.. You are a blight on those being 100% (real). SERIOUSLY, tho- folks exactly you have become the reason that we need to hide.

What criteria did you use for your blanket assumption that I "haven't experienced anything"? Abuse, sexual assault, abandonment, death of my family, addiction, suicide attempts, pregnancy loss.....those don't qualify as "anything" in the mental health world? It's having complete strangers assert that they know your history, struggles and intent that makes people feel the need to hide in fear of being judged.

Speaking of personas you forgot to mention the money grabbing persona, you know the one, the one that just can't stop using suicide to make a living. It makes me very sad and very uncomfortable to see and hear something using such a sad thing for profit. I am worried that people who do not have an intimate understanding of the darkness are going to see these videos and just assume its someone trying to make a buck off of the suffering of others. You may have survived it but what about those of us who are stilling trying to survive? We already have a hard enough time getting most of the world to even believe and understand all the many complications of very poor mental health. And sadly plenty of people still feel that way today, they don't understand, might not even believe its real, and not to mention you just KNOW when someone you are talking to someone, and cant help but notice somewhere in the back of their mind they are wondering if ppl are faking it for attention, or in this case money. You are a survivor and so maybe you have forgotten how hard it can be to talk about mental health and get the help needed, maybe you have forgotten what the fear feels like when you're wanting so badly to say something or anything to someone or anyone, but are scared of the judgement that almost comes immediately after. Please don't make it hard for people who are still fighting the battle. It's just very upsetting to see someone who is a survivor who looks back and instead of holding the door open tell you all the ways you can easily give them your money. And I know this is not going to be a very popular opinion but I am truly afraid that things like this only make it even harder for everyone else.

The majority of my videos aren't monetized due to copyright. I do what I do to raise awareness and encourage conversation. If you scroll through the comments of any video here, you will see that this channel gives people a safe place to open up, reach out and keep fighting 💖 If it isn't for you, I understand and genuinely hope that you find peace and healing. You deserve it.

@@MentalAmanda I just don’t know of any safe places which only adds to the struggle of doing right by myself and trying to find the help I know I need. I just can’t survive opening up again to anyone and risk being taken advantage of. It seems to always end in one of two ways, having to pay for something and never knowing if it will even be worth it, or just indirectly being used in someone’s campaign to generate an income. There just isn’t a way to tell who is genuine and trustworthy these days and there’s so many different ways ppls information can be used as a type of content to be monetized and so nothing seems genuine to me. I used to be one of the lost emotionally intuitive people I’ve ever know of but this has been a long time coming because over the years pieces of me have just broken off and floated away to never been again and so I can’t even understand myself anymore but idk who I am.
