"Joy" is such a pretty and heartfelt song. I love it! You also can't go wrong with any music affiliated with Teddy Riley. ❤

Fun fact: this was co-written by Michael Jackson and recorded by MJ for his Dangerous album. But he ultimately declined to use the track. Eventually Teddy Riley (the producer and Co-writer) took the track for his group Blacksteet.

Mj wrote the entire song during the bad album and recorded it for the dangerous album before he met teddy, but he didn’t want to use it on his album because he didn’t want too many love songs, so he gifted it to blackstreet after knowing Chauncey had his first daughter. Maybe teddy added words later on but mj wrote this song in the late 80s before he worked during the bad album sessions. You can tell by the words and the melody that’s it’s an mj song too. Even David sings mj’s adlibs and the “I love I love her baby” and “and a little lovin it darlin” “oohh girirrl” lol and the background Melodie’s and “Ooohhsss” and “whoaaass”. Fun fact: mj recruited devante swing from Jodeci to produce his entire album invincible but because of time constraints they weren’t able to finish. They recorded 32 songs together. Mj was having trouble with his record label Sony and Tommy motallo, they were rushing him so he had to use songs that were already made, or quickly put together, it’s the first album he used multiple producers on, instead of one. Threatened uses the drum pattern devante created. But diary of a mad band was one of mj’s fav albums. He said he bought it every city he went to and even knew the intros. He called devante a genius. They hung out along with his brother dalvin from Jodeci and their brother Derek who is a gospel singer.

@@Aurousosa Tammy Lucas has co-writing credits as well. She was in Teddy's songwriting crew back during this time. So that would seem to suggest that Teddy and his team were involved in the creation of this song. But I'm sure you're correct that MJ wrote the original version of what this song eventually became.

it was, the chorus does sound like a MJ's song. Listen to the background ad lidss - love it

A very joyfully sweet reaction 😂! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to Blackstreet before: Don't Leave Me, Tonight's The Night, Before I Let You Go and Gotta Get U Home (w/ Foxy Brown). Joy was released as the fifth single from Blackstreet's 1994 album: Blackstreet. It was written by Michael Jackson, Tammy Lucas and Teddy Riley. It was produced by Teddy Riley. The song reached #12 on the R&B chart and #43 on the Hot 100. The music video was directed by Okuwah Garrett. Yes, the violinist 🎻 was just so smooth at the end on the music video. Blackstreet Info 📰: Blackstreet was created in 1992 by Teddy Riley and originally was comprised of Chauncey Hannibal, Levi Little, Joseph Stonestreet (September 11, 1961 - June 25, 2018) and Teddy Riley. In 1993, the group's first single "Baby Be Mine" was released on the soundtrack to the movie CB4. The song was written by Teddy Riley and Joseph Stonestreet and produced by Teddy Riley. Lead singer Dave Hollister joined the group replacing Joseph Stonestreet before their debut album was released in 1994. In 1996, they released their second album Another Level. It was a breakthrough success due to the top single "No Diggity" (with Dr. Dre), which was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1996. In 1998, Blackstreet won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Another Level eventually went four times platinum in the United States and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard chart. "No Diggity" was later ranked at #91 on Rolling Stone and MTV: 100 Greatest Pop Songs. Blackstreet's Another Level album featured Mark Middleton and Eric Williams in place of Dave Hollister and Levi Little. The success of Another Level landed them a guest appearance on Jay-Z's "The City Is Mine" and they teamed with Mýa and Mase for the hit "Take Me There" from the Rugrats soundtrack. The success of their album: Another Level, would also land them a spot on New Edition's 1997 Home Again reunion tour. In 1999, Blackstreet, with another line up change: Terrell Phillips replacing Mark Middleton, had a top ten album with Finally. The first single from the album: "Girlfriend/Boyfriend", was a collaboration with Janet Jackson featuring Ja Rule and Eve. In 2001 Teddy Riley had second thoughts about disbanding Blackstreet after a failed Guy reunion and solo album effort. Teddy Riley patched things up with Chauncey Hannibal. Mark Middleton and Eric Williams returned to the group and they released another album: Level II, in 2003. Dave Hollister appeared on the song Bygones. After several failed attempts to keep Blackstreet together the group split up into two separate entities that still perform live in 2023: Blackstreet 👨🏾🎤👨🏾🎤👨🏾🎤👨🏾🎤: Levi Little Eric Williams Mark Middleton Chauncey "Black" Hannibal Blackstreet Featuring Teddy Riley 👨🏾🎤👨🏾🎤👨🏾🎤👨🏾🎤: Teddy Riley Rodney Poe Dave Hollister Sherman Tisdale Blackstreet Albums 📀: Blackstreet (1994) Another Level (1996) Finally (1999) Level II (2003) Mark Middleton Albums 📀: My Turn - My Time (2002) Chauncey "Black" Hannibal Albums 📀: Church Boy (2008) Levi Little Albums 📀: Soul Connection (1998) Teddy Riley Albums 📀: Kids At Work (1984) Guy (1988) The Future (1990) Guy III (2000) Dave Hollister Albums 📀: Ghetto Hymns (1999) Chicago '85... The Movie (2000) Things In The Game Done Changed (2002) Real Talk (2003) The Book of David: Vol.1 - The Transition (2006) Witness Protection (2008) Chicago Winds... The Saga Continues (2014) The Manuscript (2016) Some good Blackstreet songs 🎶: No Diggity, (Money Can’t) Buy Me Love, Tonight's The Night, Baby Be Mine, Happy Song (Tonite), Bootie Call, Take Me There, Never Gonna Let You Go, Coming Home To You, Let's Stay In Love, Fix, Bygones, Falling In Love Again, Get Me Home, The Lord Is Real (Time Will Reveal), Good Lovin', I Can't Get You (Out Of My Mind) & Girlfriend/Boyfriend. Fun Fact 🕵🏾: Teddy Riley has been a part of two very successful R&B singing groups which he created: Guy & Blackstreet.
