My brother had a similar experience of walking into a restaurant with a band late at a night after a concert in Iowa in the early '70s, and the place was packed with rural people at 11 pm and all heads turned toward us and all conversation stopped. And a group of young guys were gathering out front of the restaurant to fight is as we came out - just because the band members were dressed differently and mostly had long hair. So we skipped the meal and just drove out of town as quickly as we could. I imagine Black people, Native Americans, Asians or anyone else (not like them) walking into that all-white restaurant would have gotten a similar reaction. Sad that people judge others on their appearance without really knowing anything about them. The movie "Easy Rider" is a must-see to get a feel for how blatant prejudice worked in those days.

You absolutely can't go wrong with Bob Seger.
@michaelmcgowen8780Ай бұрын
In "Turn The Page", the lyric "Sometimes you can't hear them talk, other times you can. All the same old clichés, 'Is that a woman or a man'", refers to what we young men during the 1970's often experienced if we wore our hair long...the stares, the things muttered quietly by people, and the things said openly ("Is that a man or a woman"; "get a haircut, f*gg*t; and so on). Also, when Seger sings about the length of concert tours, keep in mind the sheer size of the United States. A concert tour that covers the entire U.S. can take several months of playing somewhere virtually every night.

This is a basically Bob's true story of being in a rock band on the road in the late 60's early 70's . This is How it was "Back in the Day." and you feel like you're riding along in a bus on the road with Bob somewhere . The Line , "Most times you can't hear 'em talk ,Other times you can ,All the same old clichés "Is that a woman or a man?" And you always seem out numbered You don't dare make a stand" , is very stark and it was also Very real .

It's also before he hit national exposure. This is the first song I heard from Bob Seger in Connecticut, the Live version from the Live Bullet double LP. Seger had been touring for a handful of years w success primarily in the Midwest, he being from Michigan. I bought the record after hearing this on FM radio. His next album, Night Moves, was a huge hit. Big fan for years and recommend these tunes, "Feel Like a Number" "Roll Me Away"+ "Even Now". He's got dozens of iconic songs to check out.

Bob Seger is a wonderful artist, writer, and human being. Sweet reaction.

As far as that line about the night before or somebody waiting back home, I've always thought of it as just flexibility to address everybody's different situation on the road. Some are one-way, and some are the other. Regardless, there's a certain sadness and irony and aching that same common to both situations. ❤

He recorded this before he became very famous ..Bob was more known in the mid west region in the US during the time when he released the original version on the Back in 72 album ..

I toured with a band for awhile back in the 80's...in my 20's. It was 90 minutes of orgasmic fun onstage 6 days a week and the rest of it was lonely as can be, even with others around. A really weird time in my life then.

You just can't beat Bob Seger! For another great road/behind the scene song you should try The Load Out/Stay by Jackson Brown. It's absolutely magical!

@jollyrodgers7272Ай бұрын
So pristine - you get halfway into this song and totally forget it's a Live Performance being recorded. Have you done Jackson Browne's LOAD OUT/STAY recording (from the album Running On Empty from 1977)? A fan favorite, he'd close out each concert with those, back-in-the-day.
@jaemyrick5277Ай бұрын
RND reacts this is one of the best songs about singers being on tour. You can see in your mind what Bob Seger is singing about and how he describes certain moments while on tour. The long traveling from city to city. Stopping at restaurants. Performing on for the fans every night on stage. The visuals are just incredible. I believe this was in the late 70’s or early 80’s, I was a teenager in the 70’s.

Another great reaction, Rere. Yes, I think road travel for artists is a lot more taxing than the average fan could ever realize. It's great that he presents this vivid picture of the challenges inherent in that journey. 👍

Nice reaction to a classic Bob Seger tune "Turn the Page". To put this in perspective, the Live Bullet double live album came out in 1975 and Seger was big in the Midwest but the song "Turn the Page" live got a lot of play on FM radio in Connecticut (where I live). The desperation in his voice in the last verse is powerful, like he's pleading w the listener cause it's his last chance to make it big. He's traveling by bus, 16 hours, been doing it for 5-6 years to sold out arenas in Michigan, Ohio,Illinois but again back east+ west I suppose, no exposure. Well ,"Live Bullet" got his name out there and the following year his LP "Night Moves" w title song reaching #1 made Bob Seger a star. "Feel Like a Number", "Roll me Away"+ "Even Now" are just 3 of the dozens of outstanding tracks to enjoy from Bob Seger + SBB. Good luck

My top 3 by him (in no particular order) are this one, Night Moves and Mainstreet, but his catalog is deep and exceptionally loaded with great songs.

.. In the '70's and '80's Bob Seger was a Mid-West staple of summer concert touring. I've seen him many times live.. always a class show! (now me = 60's and can't hear schitt from all the concerts.. fighting my way to the front... rocking out in front of towering speakers which physically vibrated my skin; blasted my eardrums and brain into submission and has now rendered me very hard-of-hearing and am told, that I now shout everything I say.. Hmm.. turns out Ma was right).

Bob Seger is unmistakable as soon as the first "whisper Up on the Stage Again" I really do enjoy your musical journey and look fowrd to you learning about Angelina Jordan. Young like you so very relatable to your love of musicality. Check out Bad Valentine an original by Angelina Jordan and Toby Gad. One of Bob's classics, from the Live Bullet album from 75ish(?). It was recorded at Cobo Hall in Detroit, which was Bob's home stomping ground. One of the great live rock albums ever, the album that broke him from a regional artist to a big star. You should listen to it all (not necessarily react to it). Katmandu is great rocker from that album, try that one. Bob had (has?) a great powerful soulful voice, for ballads or rockers.
