I almost choked on my water when you asked if there was any more music of hers you could listen to. You have no idea how deep the rabbit hole of Bonnie Raitt is. She has been performing for over 50 years and just won a Grammy for song of the year for 2023! Besides having a marvelous voice she is probably the best blues slide guitar player alive today. She is an absolute American Treasure! You could literally spend years listening to her music! Incidentaskly she is the real deal, no autone or pitch correction nonsense!

I think your comparison to the Swims version was very apt. I would say that Teddy Swims version was like a cry of pain, but her version is just deeply, deeply sad--heartbroken, beyond crying, to the point of sheer emotional exhaustion. Hearing it almost brought tears to my eyes, and I knew this song decades ago when it first came out. The smoothness, the richness of her voice, the long tones, amazing breath control, almost seem to create a calm background against which her despair crashes quietly, but powerfully. This album came out right during the break-up of my first marriage, and it was on all the time. Nick of Time is the name of the album, and there isn't a bad cut on it.

Her version of John Prine's Angel from Montgomery is one of, if not the epitome of Bonnie's classic (late 70s early 80s) period. This one being the same for the early '90s period. For a more upbeat song, "Let's Give Them Something to Talk About" also from the same album and also good.

The original studio version features a gorgeous piano accompaniment by Bruce Hornsby (who, if you're not yet familiar with him and his group, Bruce Hornsby and The Range, you should check them out). Hornsby is one of those musicians who has a very identifiable style and sound, and his contribution to the original record was significant, adding to the general feeling of heartbreak and resignation in the song. Of course, Bonnie's amazing vocal is the key factor, but Hornsby's playing deepens the effect.

This is one of the most beautiful songs that I've ever heard. Not only because of the melody and way she sings it but because of the meaning behind it. There are not many pains in life that can compare to the pain of being in love with someone that does not love you. As the song implies, there is nothing , nothing, nothing that you can do about it...and it really hurts when you actually realize it.

Mike Reid is an interesting guy. He was a recently retired pro football player when he wrote this song, having played for the Cincinnati Bengals. He became a successful Nashville songwriter selling his work mostly to country artists, but occasionally to crossover artists like this. He also tried his hand at singing himself. He recorded his own version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" after Raitt. His version has a very different tone and is interesting for comparison's sake, but the song inherently seems to work better from a female perspective.

Bonnie Raitt is a truly great lady with a heartfelt and beautiful voice. She also walked the walk and is co-founder of the Blues Foundation, which has helped many artists get their deserved royalties and helped many other artists in tangible ways when no one else cared about their cause. She is the real deal. My highest respect for her.

Bonnie has the most pure, clear, beautiful voice. I read somewhere that in recording one of her albums, her vocals on the songs were recorded in one take. She has perfect pitch. Plus she can play slide guitar like nobody’s business. Put simply, the lady is a gigantic talent.

She is the daughter of John Raitt a Broadway singer/actor, I remember him in the original play Oklahoma. She started singing with the old black blues singers when she was a young teenager. I love her voice and music. I saw her perform this in concert with thousands of fans, you could have heard a pin drop because everyone was focused on her performance. I see her everytime she comes to town.

She's amazing. I remember when "Luck of the Draw" was released........ this one was of several spectacular songs on that album. But maybe my favorite Bonnie Raitt song of all is "Something to talk about." Beautiful song and video on too many levels to name. Makes me cry every time - and not from sadness. Give it a look/listen - for yourself, if you don't have time to do it here.

So many of my faves already mentioned. I too loved a lot of her duets. She did a duet years ago with an older blues singer, can’t recall name…Mitzi?…of “Woman be wise…don’t advertise your man” that I loved as well. Bonnie has a way of sliding in and out of notes deftly, has a crackle and texture and sweet vibrato. She opens her heart in her singing so I guess that becomes the final key for me. She is also humble and has faced and overcome some serious demons in her life. Ty for this vid.

Bonnie who has a long and distinguished career as a musician and singer followed in her Father's (John Raitt) footsteps whose career was that of a singer in musical theater. I saw Bonnie perform at the Ann Arbor Blues and Jazz Festival in 1970 or 71, anyways, when we were both quite young.

This is Bonnie's song. She didn't write it, but it's been her signature piece since the it was released 1991. I can't imagine it in any voice but hers (loud enough to drown out my sing along). I know she's collabed with a few other artists on it, but there are LOTS of recorded covers. It's one of those iconic songs about knowing it's not going to work, and just make me feel that way one more time, and I'll go away. It's hard to sing, it makes me cry.
