Damn, you ain’t joking. My partner with whom I was very much in love passed nearly 2 mos ago and the void I’m enduring can be unbearable sometimes. I’m 54 and always loved David Gates and Bread,,,, this song from 1st grade is no exception. Just beautiful and the lyrics I’d long forgotten ripped my heart out in no time. Your story sounds almost exactly like my Wife and I. I was a huge Bread fan and I played it in the car (On my 8-track as well), in my dorm room, etc. Bread added an element of romance to our limited dating (I was in College and she was still living in her small town, 100 miles away. We met on a blind date in 79. We got married in 1980 and I still pull out the best of Bread (now on CD) ever so often. My Wife still loves it as well.

1977 was a great year for Top 40 radio. So many classic masterpieces on the radio at any given time. So much music coming out then that the songs you heard on the radio in January would be completely different songs on the radio in April. A great time to be young indeed.

Another masterpiece written by David, released on their final album in 1976. This song remained on the charts the longest, only after their greatest hit, Make It With You". This reaction is a beautiful song, with lovely lyrics and the powerful string section.The rest of the instrumentation and David's classic vocals so addictive. Great reaction. David Gates' solo hits are great. Goodbye Girl won a grammy for the movie, and His solo song Clouds is great. Something else you might not have known, Larry Knechtel, who played base and keyboards for Bread, also played piano on Simon and Garfunkel's great hit Bridge Over Trouble Waters. Larry also won a grammy for that performance.

The 70s were a BLAST as a teen .But now I'm a Born again Christian and i want other people to know his love for them. He died on the cross to forgive all our sins past present and future sins took a way all our shame and guilt But he commands everyone to turn to him though .And when you do you will have so much peace knowing that your past present and future is all forgiven but only if you put ALL your trust in him and in him alone I have a lot of peace knowing I'm going to be with him forever And not spend eternity in Hell were we all belong Because we have ALL broken His laws the 10 commandments But when you put all your trust in him and not in our self's He forgives you of everything .Thats how much he loves us. I was a Christian before I served, but the wonderful music was one of the reason's I survived Vietnam. I've already lost many of my shipmates from that time, and they were good friends. I hope to have a reunion in Heaven with each and every one of them.

LET me put it this way to youI was born in 1960 I was raised in Kodiak Alaska. it was my and still is my faverite place on the planetI have 1 brother and 2 sisters that i grew up with we lived by a very pretty lake walked it in the winter and fished it in the summer We had great seafood my dad had a very nice 72 foot shrimp boat we ate very very well salmon halibit cod my mom was a fantst cook the people in Kodiak where great the bisnnesse flurished the bars were jam packed with people because of the great econemy I had good friends good places to eat THE MUSIC WAS OUT STANDING Not like most of the last 30 years of mostly CRAPI moved down To seaside Oregon with my family where we were be for kodiak from 1965 till 1977I had my first job at bumble beea Tuna in Astoria Oregon its no longer there inhad mfirst aprtment i made a good living had a very good time in Asoria its very pretty aswell ,so in my case the 60s and 70s were FANTASTIC WHERE i lived the crime was VERY VERY VERY LOW AND ATE VERY WELL now then lets talk about the 80s with all the AIDS CASES BRAKING OUTIN 1981 WITH THAT LOL THE CRIME WAS WAY worse in the 80s i was in my 20s in the 80s But getteing back to Christianity i know when i die im going to be in HEAVEN with my REDEEMER the Lord Jesus Christ very soon And heaven will make the 70s look very as any decade for that maters but i thank Jesus Christ often for putting me in the 60s and 70s when he didand were HE DID i know was very blessed and still am

My teen years were spent entirely in the 70s. Good times. Great music. The beginning of SNL & Midnight Special. Bread was a favorite of mine...I wore out my 8-track tape! It doesn't look like you've reviewed "Diary", which you absolutely must. And when you do, make sure you stick with it to the end, hopefully without interruption. I love the ballads that Bread did. They actually can rock. Check out Mother Freedom and Truckin' Down the Highway. Jay's going to love those for sure. This was one of the reasons the band split up. The other guys wanted to rock and David Gates kept writing ballads, mostly. The ladies dug the ballads on the albums and in concert and they had a few rock songs that everybody loved. Me? I loved them all! But since Amber went Bang Bang, I flashed on John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Boom Boom which is a completely different vibe (with a backstory I'll tell if you play it).

The first song I heard from Bread was Diary and then I was hooked. Have always loved their songs.
