One of the greatest classic soft rock bands of the 70s. Loved their music, songs & voices, grabs your soul 🫶 I’ve cried listening to this song remembering my father who spent time teaching me things, so fitting…I feel this way when the song says “no one could ever know..the part of me that can’t let go” being a Daddy’s girl it crushed me to the core, I literally felt lost, alone & on shaky ground. I miss being able to talk to him about my concerns, and listen to his advice, it was invaluable 🫶

Such a touching song! David Gates wrote this song in memory of his father who died in 1963 & never saw the success he achieved with Bread. Love David Gates voice. He has one of the most soothing & mellow voices. They had so many hits such as "If", "Make It With You", "Baby I'm-a Want You", "Lost Without Your Love", "It Don't Matter To Me", "The Guitar Man", "Sweet Surrender", "Diary", "Aubrey" etc. In 1978, Gates enjoyed success as a solo artist with the hit singles "Goodbye Girl" (from the movie The Goodbye Girl) & "Took The Last Train".

New listener and subscriber - I cannot hear this song without thinking about my Dad who passed away 25 years ago. I still think about him every single day. I know he's in a better place. He was a good man, a Christian man, and I know he is in heaven. He was a single father to me & my sister and it was like losing two parents when he died. I was lucky enough to be able to tell him what a wonderful father he was and how thankful I was for him. A lot of people don't get that chance. Tell the important people in your life that you love them while you have the chance. Good review-you got the message :-)

There was nothing like the 70s for Songs Where People Die. I was 10 when I bought my first 45, "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks. 50 years later, it's Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds "Murder Ballads", death never goes out of style. And speaking of style, any dude wanting to get laid kept a Bread 8-track in his car. Every chick wanted to be Mrs. David Gates because every song was just like this one. Every song was great. It's great to be 8 years old again, just for a minute. Love your channel!

This was released in 1972. I had the Best of Bread 8-Track and wore the tape out on the player my father bought for me in 1971. I lost my father two days after my 15th birthday in June of 1973. His death changed the meaning of this song totally for me. He was only 36 years old. I lost my wife 3 years ago after nearly 42 years of marriage. Hearing this brings back so many old memories and now new emotions. The tears flow when the music starts.

Wow. I never paid much attention to this song as a kid growing up hearing it. I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics, obviously. I just assumed it was another song about a girl he loved that left him. My father left us when I was around 12 and he wasn't in our lives very much after that. For the next 45 years it was an on and off again relationship. He just passed this year and now this song has got me all inside my feelings and I don't like it one bit. Men, please stay in your children's lives even if you and mama don't see eye to eye. They need you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😢😢

Several years ago we lost our youngest son Colton, 27, to a heart attack. My wife was inconsolable and it fell to me to be the strong one and get us all through this living nightmare. I was able to maintain a stoic front, but whenever I'd hear this song it was time to seek privacy because I knew I'd soon be sobbing my guts out.....just like now.

Your kids watch everything you do. My kid ( now 24 years old ) still has me as a role model after all these years. Fuck knows why. My dad died when I was 24. Luckily through those times. after his death, my Mum reminded me of the really great times we as a family, spent our time together.. We still love them...
