I requested a one-hit wonder a few days ago by an actor who recently passed away, David Soul, and the song is "Don't give up on us, Baby" ! The song is from the late 70's, and I think Amber will love it since she loves soft rock from the 70's. Just thought I'd request it again. The actor was part of a crime fighting duo named Starsky and Hutch, it was very popular during the 2nd half of the 70's! Just some fun facts about the show. Great action scenes, and great car!

Before Starsky and Hutch he played Joshua Bolt, the middle brother on Here Come The Brides. Bobby Sherman , who played the youngest brother, Jeremy, was also a heartthrob in the late sixties and early seventies. My sister had at least one of his albums. I was three years younger and David Cassidy was my first big crush.

One thing that people often overlook about Gates is that in addition to his immaculate voice from God he was also a brilliant songwriter whose lyrics are sheer poetry, and their sad, sweet beauty blends perfectly with that sad, sweet, beautiful voice. Love me some bread and I love that you love appreciate them. It's mutual love society, y'all! 😃

As others have said - “Diary” is such a beautiful song, old style lyrics for sure, but that is the beauty about David Gates songs. I can’t imagine anyone not liking Bread or Gates - similar to The Carpenters in that you just have to admit that the songs and the voice are from heaven…yes, “Diary” next.

@@davereynolds4992 Yes! I love both of those. I had to look up the lyrics for “Let Your Love Go” to remember it but you’re right. That and “Mother Freedom” definitely have a different sound than most of the songs by Bread. “Down on My Knees” is another rocker. This is so cleverly written, because while usually in a "break-up" song the singer is either begging the other person to stay, or is telling the other person they will regret leaving and that the singer will be fine so it doesn't matter to them. In this case, he is saying it doesn't matter to him if the other person leaves because he wants her to be happy. He also says it doesn't matter to him if she comes back, because he'll be there waiting for her. It's obvious to me that it DOES matter to him and the title lyric is a kind of defense mechanism to play it cool. He intends to wait forever for her, though he thinks (hopes) he won't need to. It actually matters A LOT to him.

Bread was the ultimate make out music back in the 70’s. Any guy worth his weight in salt had “The Best of Bread” 8-Track tape in his car. Amazing how great it sounded from the backseat, softly playing over and over, parked at the beach on a warm summer night, with the windows rolled down 😉

I got a loaf (👈🏻see what I did there?😂) of Bread songs to request. "Diary", "Look What You've Done", "Anyway You Want Me", "London Bridge", "Sweet Surrender". For some Bread songs that have a little more Rock than Soft: "Dismal Day", "Truckin'", "Down On My Knees" and "Let Your Love Go". And Jay, I think you will really like "Fancy Dancer". The bass line is very prevalent in that song and it slaps. 😎👍

****THIS IS THE ONE**** I've mentioned this before, but since you asked for LITTLE RIVER BAND songs, this is absolutely the one you need to listen to. The LONG version of "It's a long way there". About 8 minutes and 40 seconds long. There is a shorter "radio" version, but you'll be cheating yourself if you don't do the longer one (you'll miss some fantastic mellow guitar work). I promise that when it's over, you will think it's only been 4 or 5 minutes. FANTASTIC!!!! As for Bread songs, there are many. I was a senior in HS when this son (It don't matter to me) was released - I remember it well. Another song with the same vibe and sweetness that folks never seem to mention (or react to) is "Sweet Surrender a short song, but beautiful and with the same sort of fantastic guitar solo (short) as Amber liked in this song. Hope to hear reactions to one or both soon!

Love this song! I remember when this was all over the radio in my teens. It's also a prime example of what my guitar teacher was trying to make me understand; that often, less is more. This arrangement is a thing of beauty! The guitar fills are perfectly placed, and as Amber noted, the drummer wasn't trying to be the fasted drummer on the planet. He was holding the tempo for the rest of the band to float on. You really need to react to Mother Freedom and Truckin' Down the Highway. And for The Hollies, Long Cool Woman. That one is a rocker! I always turn up the volume for those three!

This is my favorite Bread song! I realize you do not know most of the group's first hits, what songs were their "breakout" song, but this was their FIRST hit! And this was their introduction to me.

Poco is a great soft band. Heart of the Night, Crazy Love, Rose of Cimmaron etc. You'll hear the Eagles in them.

Thank you so very much for reacting to this song! Way, way, WAYYY back in 1969...my then-girlfriend and I thought we were in love. My parents and her parents knew each other and they all thought that we were simply too young to handle what might happen (I was 17, she was 16). So, they all sat down with us and pretty much required us to "cool our jets" for 3 months. Then this song came out as we had our last date night for the 3 months. Sadly, she eloped with some other guy shortly thereafter....then I realized how smart my parents were!! So, for me, it's sort of a sad memory that turned out just fine in the end. Isn't it amazing what memories a simple music reaction brings up?

The Whole Song is based on the Adage "If you love Someone, set them free... If they return, it's meant to be... if they don't, it never was.".
