A little backstory on this one, he wrote this song dedicated to his Aunt Suzie who first introduced him to the guitar at a young age. It's probably his most well-known tune (among his ~3000 total) and arguably the greatest rock instrumental ever. Personally I like the studio version much more, but watching Big B perform it is something to behold! I could easily recommend 100 more fantastic Buckethead tracks, but many of them are extraordinarily long. For something of a more reasonable length for reaction purposes, I'd recommend Mount Shasta if you want something beautiful and melodic or Solar Sailcraft for something that rocks hard. He covers the whole spectrum!

I have seen Buckethead 22 times - so far. He is 6 ft 8, robot dances, moonwalks, and gives out toys to people in the front of the stage. His live performances with Primus, Guns ' n Roses, Praxis, and others are amazing. He also played on the Undercova Brother soundtrack with Snoop Dogg and Bootsie Collins and did a cameo in the official video. He did a live performance that is called Buckethead Dueling Banjos but is really just him doing freestyle bluegrass on his KFC Flying V. He's one of the most interesting characters in music history.

I ran into his video on accident, this same one you just reacted to and I was blown away. I must've watched it 50 times. I looked him up afterwards and he wrote this song for his aunt who passed away. She got him his first guitar. He's just incredible and I think he's the greatest guitarist alive today.

My son had Buckets "Jordan" on his Guitar Hero". Nearly impossible to play if you're not BH! There is an awesome live version of Jordan at Culture Room. Highly recommend! Buckethead has always played with a mask, the story goes that he has social anxiety. He replaced Slash for a while in GNR, and Ozzy offered him a gig but only if he ditched the Bucket. He didn't. Buckethead is in his 50s now and has had some publicized health issues. I've yet to see him live, but he's on the top of my list if he tours again! My son's list too.

Buckethead doesn't get as much recognition as I think he deserves in terms of how insanely prolific he's been with producing original music, being a technical master, all while also infusing his music with a lot of emotion. From what I've read he's a really weird guy to work with, but not "difficult" in the traditional rock star sense (drugs/booze), more like he wanted to work in a giant chicken coop with rubber chickens with their heads cut off tied to the ceiling and would only talk to band managers through a puppet. Guy's definitely a musical genius, and I'm sure much of his supposed antics are an act/stories made up by him and people he worked with to attribute to the persona he assumes as Buckethead, since he doesn't do a lot in the way of interviews and whatnot. Edit: Les Claypool of Primus also made a "origin story" song about Buckethead...aptly titled "Buckethead" which features a pretty badass solo from the man himself. kzbin.info/www/bejne/onrXiXSsfs94h5I
@PongGod
@PongGod Жыл бұрын
I think you're pretty much spot-on, although I think the alleged antics are, for the most part, real. The dude really is super weird. There's no getting around that. But IMO, that just makes all the more interesting. More importantly, his talents are unmatched. Sure, there are some other guitarists out there who arguably have equal technical skills, but none of them even come close him in terms of compositional quality/quantity. If I could only choose one musical artist to listen to for my remaining days, Buckethead would be a no-brainer.

Buckethead is definitely a top 100 guitarist. What I like about him is his varied styles. Yeah, he can shred with the best of them, but how about those legato sections. He has a really good feel for when to add slow, lyrical style melodies and when to just shred the hell out of his guitar. The contrasts within a given song are often what make it special. I feel that's one of the things that set Soothsayer apart.

Fun fact about Buckethead: 1. VERY FEW photos of his face exist. 2. Very few people have seen his face - mostly family. 3. He has only given one interview, EVER, the motivation for which was largely because he was facing a rare heart disease / condition. It was a phone interview, of course. Look it up. 4. The more you look into him, the less you know about him. Its weird.

Buckethead is just Buckethead. He infamously replaced Slash for one tour with Gun-n-Roses. He auditioned for Ozzie Osborn who was blown away by his playing but evidently Ozzie could not deal with him constantly wearing the bucket and mask. He mostly plays concerts solo with a backing track but will also tour with musicians that considers to be at his level: Les Claypool, George Clinton, and Bernie Worrell come to mind. The man is legendary for his many idiosyncrasies, his incredibly expressive playing, and his prolific output.
