• Call Me The Breeze - L...
Lynyrd Skynyrd performing "Call Me The Breeze" on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1975
Travis & Suzi, this version of "Call me the breeze" comes from the british TV show "The Old grey whistle test" and it was shot in 1975. Following their third studio album "Nuthin' fancy", skynyrd embarked on what was called the "torture tour." after a particularly rough night on tour that saw ronnie van zant break a hotel lamp and hold the jagged edges of it to guitarist ed king's throat, king left the band. they continued in this format until steve gaines joined in 1976. this song is a cover of a j.j. cale song and it originally appeared on their "second helping" LP. it was one of their favorite songs to play live. turn it up! P.S. Ed king would rejoin the band in 1987 on the reunion tour.

Billy Powell was a roadie for the band for about two years...In 1972, Skynyrd played a show at the Bolles School prom. During a break at that event, Powell sat down at a piano and played a song. When the band realized their roadie's ability, he was offered the position of keyboardist.

You gotta love Ronnie out there barefooted, singing his heart out.... and always backing away or even pushing the guitarists out there for their moment on stage ! My favorite video ( Freebird live Aug. 21, 1976 ) is when they opened for The Rolling Stones*, & Ronnie was pushing the guys out onto the sacred Rolling Stones tongue stage (the part of stage they were told to stay off of) * BTW after a few shows it should have been the other way around ✌️😉

Now that's cooking with grease . Great performance. As far as I'm concerned, the greatest rock band ever. I traded guitar picks with Gary a few years ago. A good friend of mine is their drum tech/standby drummer so I got to meet him. Super nice fella. RIP Gary and the rest of the band.

As an old guy that grew up in the 60's and early 70's we had so much awesome music from so many different bands it has never been matched before or since. I think one of the big differences was the musicians did it more for the love of making music rather than the paycheck and the passion and soul they put into their craft shows in the music which music made today totally lacks that same depth and vibrancy.

Travis & Suzi Last member of original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington (dark haired wearing dark shirt), guitarist died early last year. Other members including Ronnie's van Zant's little brother, Johnnie, who reformed the band in 1987, 10 years after of the infamous crash that killed his brother, Ronnie, of current lineup for LS were considering to breakup right after Rossington death. But fans and original members' estates and families wanted current lineup to live on tradition of Lynyrd Skynyrd's legacy. I have seen them twice one time many years ago and second was in July of last year. Skynyrd Nation!

During one of the tours, while riding on the bus, Leon had his throat cut and they blamed it on Ed. Ed was a peaceful hippy from California and I find it hard to believe that. Sounds more like something Ronny would do and they covered it up because he was essentially the band.

This is one of their worst performances captired on video, actually. Ronnie had a bad cold and could barely sing, theyd just lost Ed King so their sound was skinnier, and they were playing on a small stage with limited amps. Together ot makes for a flat performance. Still great, but if you want to see what they were capable of, gotta check them out at Oakland or opening for the Stones in England (they will absolutely blow your socks off!)
