They were THE best Southern Rock band, and I’d venture to say they’re in the top 5 Rock bands, ever. They’re my personal favorite. Hardly anyone makes music like this anymore. People aren’t playing instruments anymore. It’s a shame.
@Gordy636 ай бұрын
They make my top three for sure! Stones, Zeppelin and Skynyrd 🤘
@tracyyork14282 ай бұрын
I would put Skynyrd in my all time top five. Van Zant wasn't the greatest singer or conventionally good looking, but he had a unique presence and an undeniable swag that elevated him to a top tier front man. Then there are the musicians, from the band's inception until the plane crash; each man was an absolute MASTER of his instrument. They wielded their guitars, piano, and drums as though they were weapons bonded to their bodies. Skynyrd was also well served by their producers, AL Cooper and (later) Tom Dowd. Cooper in particular taught them how to sound amazing on record, even if they didn't really get along.

Can someone verify there are no horns on this track? If not, it's amazing how they can make the guitars sound like a brass section.
@billc.5861Ай бұрын
Great question and I walked over to that album I’ve had sitting around for over 4 1/2 decades and yes there is horns - according to the notes Bobby Keys. - Trevor Lawrence & Steve Madiao played the horns on this song ** for extra bonus points the hand clap were done by the Producer Al Kooper and 7 other guys using nicknames. Now we’re both smarter in the useless trivia area. 😁

These guys started in high school together, and when they got serious, they had a shack in the swamps they called Hell House, and they spent hours on end there, no a/c, and perfected their sound. They really worked hard to become as good as they were, and so tragic they had such an end.

It's good to see you younger guys showing respect do these past greats. I'm 66 years old. I've seen and heard them all. There has never been music ever, that was better, from the mid-1950s to the early 1980s. The talent was absolutely incredible. Oh and by the way, that's when people actually played instruments. Long live American rock music, soul music, country music and especially the blues. Without the blues we would have had nothing! Keep up the good work guys.

Next "T For Texas" live in 1976 at Knebworth. Their Free Bird that day was the best live performance since Ronnie pissed off Mick Jagger so bad by putting his guitar army on Mick's private catwalk for the solo. The Stones refused to come out for hours until the crowd settled down from their Skynyrd induced frenzy! Love the reaction how fun was that? And I really appreciate the observation about multitasking because it's not always but so often the really amazing bands that reached so many people, they could all do multiple things really well. I mean and why would that not be good? It just stands to reason. It's just multiplies the possibilities so much.

I love me my Skynyrd! Thanks guys! This was fun. Keep delving into them. My man on the right of my side of view is correct about some of the most diverse of musicians back then. When you're done with Skynyrd, I suggest that you dive into the rabbit hole known as, "Rush". It will definitely bring your channel views. Also, you'll discover your favorite drummer's favorite drummer. Neil Peart (RIP). You'll also discover one of rock's most renowned bass players, Geddy Lee. He was also the lead vocalist while handling keyboards and foot pedals. "Dance monkey dance!" OH yeah, The guitarist, Alex Lifeson, who formed the band with Geddy in his basement also ripped. He just got a wee bit over shadowed.
