Calli has really an amazing taste for music and combination of languages. And she knows what suits her voice best :) I would love to see reactions to other v-tubers than hololive as well. There are so many other great v-tuber artists out there , though hololive has the fanciest MV's. I suggest Hayato Kagami - song "Within" or "Pierce"

Just imagine you're a Hololive fan watching the company's first ever English group debut. Calli's up first and she drops this on us. It's a fun memey song but the fact she hits us with a bilingual rap song when we'd be so used to J-POP style songs from the JP vtubers is pretty mindblowing. Yes, Calli is one of the ones with a large music catalogue in Hololive. Just because Hololive leans towards singing to some degree, only a few have a sizeable catalogue. Off top of my head - Calli, Suisei, Towa, Tsunomaki Watame, IRyS & AZKi have big catalogues. Most others have a small handful of originals with their fair share of covers.

Yes Deadbeats is the the name of her fanbase. Proud to be called one. As for this song... I will *never* forget the first time I heard it. This song she played during her debut and it was glorious. Her debut was scuffed to hell. Model lagging, muted for a few minutes at the start. Then about halfway through she's basically like "Hey... I made this song. It's just okay but I hope you like it," *Then she drops this song*. Such a trip and I fell in love with her instantly.
@nestharus

Calli's song "Red" was #1 on the charts in the US and Japan :). Keep in mind that this song was during her debut livestream. The intro of the song was meant to throw everyone in the stream off and surprise everybody. She did the entire stream like the intro so absolutely nobody was expecting that song. That massive surprise is really what made that song so legendary : D. I remember I was kinda like "meh" throughout the stream and then I was like "meh" as the song was starting ("I'd like to sing a song for all of you teehee :3") and then it went ham and I was like "WTF HOLY BBQ SAUCE" :D. Calli is a grim reaper in hololive so that is why the song sounds the way it does. She's part of HoloMyth; all mythical beings like a phoenix, a monstrosity of cthulu, a grim reaper, an Atlantean shark, and a time traveling detective aiming to investigate all of these beings : ). Did not include "all" languages they speak Calli: native English speaker, extremely good at Japanese Gura: native English speaker, learning Japanese Ina: native English speaker, extremely good at Japanese Kiara: native German speaker, extremely good at English and Japanese Ame: native English speaker, learning Japanese

Besides rhyming she also does wordplays between English and Japanese which is astonishing. 2:10 seiso can mean "say so" but it rhymes with japanese word 清楚 (seiso) which means (a) wholesome and pure or innocent (character). 2:14 大好き(daisuki) means to like very much but she wrote 大(dai) as Die. meaning I like Die.

Her biggest song, but she's definitely grown a lot since then. I doubt she expected it to pop off as hard as it did. It was pretty crazy. Gotta recommend Watame's "My Song" once again. It's a really heavy one about her history with music. Emotional like Calli's End of A Life. It also has an amazing anime level MV that won't disappoint. Would be great to see the sheep get some love she has 17 original songs. She also has 3 songs with Calli - Cloudy Sheep and two versions of Reaper vs Sheep. The reaper vs sheep on Watame's channel is cute and an interesting twist for the two of them, while the version on Calli's channel is just them rapping hard.

I'd like to point out to you, that you didn't see this song first, but for most of us this song was the FIRST time we got introduced to Calli. And she came out, starting with this cutesy anime-style voice, and then just goes "fck it!" and breaks into this hardcore rap. It was one hell of a whiplash for most people, and most deadbeats fell in love with her right there and then. She is not quite fluent in Japanese, but she's now lived there for about 4 years or so, and is fairly conversationally fluent (as in, she doesn't struggle to just communicate with her Japanese colleagues). Recommendations: "A Million Miles Away" by Hakos Baelz (get a box of tissues ready because this song will hit you in the feels like no other) "Alice&U" by Ayunda Risu (This squirrel has amazing range and the song is in 3 different languages: English, Japanese and Bahasa Indonesia) "Hololive Special MEDDLIE" by Kureiji Ollie (This is a medley of a whole bunch of Hololive originals, one from each of a bunch of Hololive talents where Ollie is either mimicking their singing style pretty accurately, such as with Ina's "Violet", or alters the song a bit to give it a unique vibe such as Gura's "Reflect" and Calli's "Red") "Marine Set Sail" or "UNISON" by Hoshou Marine (One is 100% anime, the other defies explanation).

For a song by a Hololive artist you already know I can't recommend Stellar Stellar by Suisei enough. It's the song she is most well known for, and with good reason. For an artist you haven't heard yet I recommend Tsunomaki Watame. She's another Hololive talent with a lot or original songs (4th most in Hololive with Calli and Suisei being 3rd and 4th most respectively). "My Song" would be my #1 recommendation for her, although all her songs are great. I also really recommend Amane Kanata. She doesn't have a large number of songs but she's an amazing singer which is particularly impressive because a few years back she went deaf in one ear which caused her to really struggle to maintain her skill at singing for a while. She writes and composes her own songs which is a rarity in Hololive. She's also done several collab songs with Towa under the unit name Orio.

One recommendation I don't think I've seen others mention yet is from Ookami Mio (a.k.a Mama Mio) and her song Howling. When this song dropped it floored the community because she's such a light, bubbly, mom-like personality, but the song slapped SO hard. HoloMyth was the first English-focused vtuber "generation" from Hololive, and among the first English-focused vtubers out there. They came out right when vtubers were really taking off in the West. Calli was the first of Myth to debut. When watching her debut, most of us didn't know how what had been a Japanese trend would translate to an english-speaking audience. Many of the Japanese members would put on a cutesy character and voice, but would that translate for an english speaker? So Calli comes out and starts her debut putting on this overly-cutesy voice, acting very shy and demure, and really playing up the cringe of that. She even slipped in some (faked) "breaks" in character, where she would say something in her normal voice then try to cover it up with the cutesy voice again. She described that she was a rapper, but we couldn't really envision what that would mean from a character with this high-pitched voice. In the middle of that, she shows us this song. It starts off with that same cute voice, and then just drops the façade entirely, absolutely blowing us all away. It really set the stage for the rest of Myth debuts, that this was going to be something a bit different than the japanese members would do. Fun aside, she then proceeded to release 3 other original songs in that first week after her debut. She hasn't really slowed down since, releasing a crazy amount of music since then (3 EPs, an LP next month, and a bunch of singles, covers, and collab songs in a bit over 2 years), in addition to her standard streaming and concert schedule.

She is hands down the best singer in hololive (even though they have 2 members that were hired to be almost exclusively singers) Her voice is jaw dropping. More ironmouse. Literally she does karaoke streams all the time, and pick what you want. Her regular singing voice is amazing. Obviously her operatic voice is incredible, but just her regular singing voice is still worth listening to. Not sure if this is something you do, but as far as “regular” music goes, I always recommend Okkervil River. They are a well known unknown band lol. The greatest thing about this song was how it was dropped on us right on her debut. The lyrics are a deconstruction of what you normally expect from the usual company vtuber/idol: all cute ("kawaii" = cute in japanese) and pure ("seiso" = pure in japanese). She starts with a super polite and cute japanese and then immediately shifts with a "F&%$ it!". That on top of rapping! That's a vtuber and she's rapping and cursing like a boss, it was WILD! Absolute subversion of expectations! One of the craziest debuts in Hololive for sure 😂

If Calli isn't technically "fluent in Japanese" she's pretty damn close to it. She seems very comfortable speaking Japanese with Japanese V-Tubers during streams, and, when Japanese attempt to reciprocate by speaking English, she has a hard time muffling laughter, because they often say things that would be embarrassing to say in public. I've seen her make slight mistakes in the pronunciation of words that change the meaning of what she intended to say into something completely different, but it seems to me that she's very grounded in the language conversationally. and, I think that she can read and write Japanese in a basic sense (her grasp of Kanji characters might be lacking). Going back to the topic of English speakers speaking Japanese, and vice versa, there is a hilarious clip that runs almost 16 minutes of two Hololive JP members, one is Japanese-American who is fluent in both English and Japanese (Kiryu Coco), and the other who knows very little English (Sakura Miko), where Miko attempts to display her "elite" English skills, and Coco patiently helps her along. The upload is titled *"Sakura Miko And Kiryu Coco Elite English Conversation Full version (Hololive Eng sub) 'Freedom Lady.'"* It's all done in good fun, and it's VERY funny. I highly recommend doing a reaction to it.

This is almost like straddling between the "in-universe" and "secret knowlege" areas, as Calli talked about some parts of it in her live streams. While still in the US she was determined to go to Japan to join the underground rap scene there, she had to take tough jobs like waitressing at a restaurant chain where she got badly treated, like getting drinks thrown at her by customers, but she persevered until she got enough money to do so. With her fluency in Japanese she quickly established herself, but when the pandemic hit, the live performance scene came to a screeching halt, and yet Calli noticed Hololive's casting call, went for it and got hired. That caused a riff between her and some rappers for "not being true to the cause". Later on, she got attacked on Twitter claiming that her success was purely due to her working for Hololive, by lots of people calling themselves "pre-debut vtubers". All these explain the sentiments in many of her original songs.

I would say Calli is conversationally fluent in Japanese. She’s definitely not native level at the language, but she’s good enough that she can regularly have full collab streams with JP members and communicate well. As for recommendations, IRyS is kind of having a moment right now with a new model debuting the other day, so might be a good time to get introduced to her. She’s the second most prolific member on the Hololive English side of things in terms of number of songs released after Calli, and arguably Holo EN’s best voice. She’s got a lot of great songs, but an old fan favorite that might be a good starting point is Here Comes Hope. Alternatively, if you want to start with a group song with some members you know already, check out Ifuudoudou (威風堂々). It’s got IRyS, Cali, Suisei and two JP members you haven’t been introduced to yet (but are two of the most prolific music artists on the JP side), Tokino Sora and AZKi.

The bridge you commented about is actually a very cool play on words that she's doing. She says: "If you take my advice, you'll get killed by what'cha don't know! But inside, I'm kinda nervous and I don't know what the word is For the other side of the gap? FUCK IT, SEISO" She also uses the term "moe sells" in another part of her song. Moe is like a cutesy persona. "Gap moe" is a term for someone who looks different from their personality so when she mentions the word "gap" here she is calling back to the line that moe sells, "seiso" is a term for a generally wholesome and sweet individual, she precedes it by saying she's inwardly nervous. So she's saying that she's sold herself on a moe "sweet personality" and ended up having a tough badass candor about her but she is expressing that she actually has a softer part of her self that is not related to her sweet mask she puts up and is also not related to the tough act she airs either. If you look across her music and her streams you can tell she writes a lot about how internet personalities force her to be more jaded and fierce as a part of the business and the parasocial nature of her job but it's only one side of her and she has a more gentle self which she shows quite a bit in various streams/clips. Calli's songs are clever in that they use these neat bilingual wordplays to express her venting about stuff.

Nezumi Scheme and I’m Greedy are her two new songs from her upcoming album Sinderella that she has MVs for you should check out. Also Takanashi Kiara, who appears in the background at 4:30 in the video, Do U is her newest original song with a great MV. There’s also Amelia Watson the last member of HoloMyth but she doesn’t consider herself a singer so she doesn’t have an original song, she only does covers usually with over hololive members.

Calli really is a great artist, i usually don't like rap music, but callis songs are different i have alot of them in my favorites playlist! To get to know more different artist in Hololive i would recommend "Kiseki Knot" (キセキ結び - ホロライブ4期生) an OG Song made by Amane Kanata and sung by Hololive JP Gen 4 (Kiryu Coco, Amane Kanata, Tokoyami Towa, Tsunomaki Watame and Himemori Luna). Towa, Kanata and Watame have more music on their channels beside this collab song the other 2 don't publish many songs, but this Collab still is one of my favorit Hololive songs.

I think it's alright, but always been a bigger fan of Red personally! If you want to check out a different person, it'd be great if you checked out Watame sometime. She's also in Hololive and has 17 original songs now with English subs. Her most well known is probably her My Song which was actually used as an opening on a TV show for a while. It's quite beautiful and emotional.

You should listen to reaper vs sheep by calliope and watame. Theres 2 versions and i definitely recommend to listen to both. Because one calli raps in english and watame raps in japanese. The other version they both rap in the other language (calli in japanese, watame in english) And by doing this will help you get into watame next and shes also a great singer.

First of all, at 5:55 I saw the recommendation of Calli's new pokemon game. Dad is doing that as a nuzlocke again, right? Need to catch on the vods. As for songs that you could react: - There is a recent original MV from all 5 of Myth girls in Calli's channel called Non - Fiction. - Since we are in the original MVs category, Hakos Baelz has one called "A million miles away". Which is completely different from her other original "Play Dice". - Amelia had a fan-made rap made in Holo Bass channel. Fan favorite as well. "Pop-on Rocks: A Dr. Seuss Rap". The og edit got issues but it was recently re-uploaded. - DO U from Kiara. I do not remember if you checked this during a Twitch stream or not. - Say So / Doja Cat from Nabi-mama and Amelia in Nabi's channel. - Then we dive even deeper with things like Error or Palette from Towa(-sama). - IRyS, that is labeled as a V-Singer has released a couple of originals. Berserker is my personal favorite. - Sora and AZKi are one of the first girls in Hololive that have really great voices. - Recently Lui released a couple of covers but I can't translate them directly so maybe check her out? Then we jump to collabs like: - Beat Eater from Reine - Calli - Suisei. - Startend cover from Suisei - Aqua - Towa(-sama). 3 entirely different voices in this one. - Kakumeiki Valvrave anime opening cover from Reine and Risu. Each side on each person's channel since they covered both sides of this song. - Luvoratory(my spelling might be wrong here) rap cover from Calli - Kanata - Mel. - Hikaru Nara anime opening cover from Towa(-sama) - Chloe - Lui - Roboco - Mel or the one from the Council girls. - Yoasobi Monster cover in from Koyori - Suisei - Subaru - Sora - Chloe - Polka. - Honeyworks cover from Mel and Amelia. - Aaaaand one more cover in Sora's channel from Sora - AZKi - IRyS - Suisei - Calli .(yes the one with the moans. NSFW warning for people to put on their headphones) . . . . . Just my 2 cents.
