I believe Cole wrote this song about his dad who died unexpectedly while he was out on tour after signing his record deal. If your parents are still alive, tell them you love them because at some point they will be gone. I know I miss mine dearly...

I'm not crying your crying. His Dad passed away shortly after signing his record deal. So this song and video were for his dad. At the end of the actual video, there is footage of him going to his dad's graveside for the first time since the funeral. It's a real tear-jerker. He just recently lost his mom as well. Very sad.

By now y’all probably know this song is about his father who passed away. When you get a chance you really should check out the official video. It fills in with so much more information than just the words to the song. To see this grown man going to his fathers grave and having his friends stand around him to support him. It’s a must see.

The official video explains a lot more than just listening to the lyric one. It explained more of what was going on and showed his father who passed and him at his father's graveside crying and the crowd when he was singing and how much his father missed him getting a deal with Warner and got his start singing and making it

I couldn't listen to this song around my wedding without full blown bawling for two reasons. My grandad passed a year and a half before my wedding and he basically raised me, he was supposed to be the one to walk me down the isle. The second reason is my biological mom. She is alive, but she could not get herself together for one day for my wedding. There has always been tension between us due to her drug and alcohol addictions throughout my childhood, she was extremely abusive in every way. I put all that aside and invited her to the wedding because she should have been there, but I told her she cant drink or be under the influence and she refused to come. This song still brings tears to my eyes because of it.

Lost my dad at 26 & he was 50. The hardest worker I knew & we'd drink beers with coworkers after work & had many good times. When he passed from cancer i regretted not saying I love you b4 leaving to help my brother 10 hours away move to Connecticut. The cancer finally beat my super hero.

He wrote this for his Dad who passed unexpectedly😔 My Mom was 58 when she passed; we knew she was sick for 17wks. Six weeks after she passed, my Dad was diagnosed. At 33, *poof* my parents were gone. Call your parents. Hug them every chance you get. Hold their hands like you did when you were little. When they annoy you- remember you WILL miss it. Yes- even that. Try to memorize their voices first thing in the morning, the way their sweater smells after making Sunday breakfast, and how they sound moving around the kitchen or the garage making sure everything is in its place lest the world stop spinning. Twenty-five years on the most surprising thing about the loss of my parents is how very raw it can still feel, out of the blue. Y’all are so cute. Hold on to that as well💙💙 Stay safe & love much!!

This is another one that the video is so impactful because you get to see the actual conversation with his dad at the beginning when he got his record deal and then at the end at his grave. His dad died I believe within the first year of his record deal and he also just lost his mom.
