even though they may have some "southern rock" sounding songs, they are technically bluesy Folk Rock. And again, they were heavily influenced by southern culture but are NOT from the south, they were from Berkeley in the SF Bay Area during the time (mid-late 60s) of the UC campus rallies of Free Speech & Civil Rights movements and the protests/riots of the Vietnam war which sparked some of their best song writing and iconic songs. The Fogerty brothers grew up in neighboring El Cerrito but had their rehearsal studio right next door to the OG North Face factory on 5th street in Berkeley and recorded at Fantasy Studios down the street which is actually "south" west part of town.

@@susiestone5644 CCR helped define the Southern Rock Genre. I've heard people call it swamp music, which was the first I've ever heard of THAT. A few of their songs have a swampy feel, even Fogerty claimed that with songs like Born on the Bayou, that Louisiana swamp music feel to it. But some claim it as a Genre, lol. Southern Rock is a genre that you can point to many famous, well established bands, all with their own take and sound. Southern Rock isn't directions to a bands home. It's a genre. I've heard people say that they are from Cali so they can't do Southern Rock. It's like saying a person can't live in Nashville, a city, and do Country Music. Absurd.
@susiestone56442 жыл бұрын
@@stanleymyrick4068 Most rock bands from the 60s-70s did many different type of songs halfwit. Led Zeppelin did a few folk songs, that doesn't mean they were a folk band. Kiss did a disco song, were they a disco band? . To be a true 'southern rock band, you would have to do/make your whole album(s) in that style. Being in the military during the Vietnam War, I've always interpreted this song as a metaphor for what it was like fighting in the jungles of Vietnam. Like being in the middle of a firefight in a downpour but you could see rays of sunshine slashing through the smoke. At the time the prevailing civilian opinion was why are we fighting this war? The "I wanna know" line hints at that for me.

I have always felt that CCR is like matter of fact music. What they sing is just deep and relatable, and with with passion. Every song has that 100% feeling to it. You can tell that it's just not a song on an album or record, but a work of art. You can't get that anymore so, yeah, southern rock has that feel. I've said it before in other comments elsewhere that older music tells a story. This was the problem, this is how they felt about, and this is what they did about; all in 3 or 4 minutes.
